There is a much easier way to do it. It takes less practice too. Do the same thing with your hand, but instead of using only the thumb, try inhaling through the crease yor Index and thumb finger make, saying something like Tuka tuka. Much easier

OMG sometimes I can do the scratching sound, but I do it , I breathe in so redicoulisly much air so my lungs get so filled up and I cannot make that base sound cuz it feels like im going to cough.

I can every sound there is on beatboxing vids on u tube exept from the crap scratch when doing it with you'r finger how much do you need to pres against you'r lips to do the sound ????

If you want to use your finger then its more about getting your lips securely placed. You dont have to press against your lips very hard though, I can replicate my scratch barely touching my lips with thumb as well as finger. Its all about placement, not pressure. Move your hand around until you get a good sound then practice. Best of Luck.

Start out practicing slow and very repetitive and the speed will come with time. Getting the sound and technique is always first. Make sure while doing inward tooka breath that the front part of the tongue is accenting the -Too- part and the -Ka- sound is coming from the back of your tongue breaking suction/clicking towards the back of your pallet.

when you do that scratching noise, what should your mouth (lips) be like? closed sucking? or a kiss lip?

Really poof your lips out more like a dramatic kiss I guess. Make sure there is enough of an opening probably about the size of a dime, then press your thumb partition into your lips and breath in. You should get a slight whistle or scratch after a while.

After doing it for a while you should start to hear the scratch come out. Just keep practicing everyday and eventually your scratch will get much more pronounced, crisper and faster.

hey i want to ask a question, i can already do the crab scratch separately, but when putting it into the beat, i can't do really much variations. what i can do is only doing like "tooka-tooka" sound unvocalised, i cant do fast scratches like yours, so my scratch sounds kinda lame. can you tell me how to do those fast scratches? pls rply thx.

I can tell you right now that the only reason I can do it fast is because I practiced, practiced and practiced some more. Work on doing the inward too-ka part without the scratch and just practice every day trying to get it quicker. I also work on the dexterity of my tongue movement all the time. One silent exercise I do is close my mouth and flick my tongue left to right hitting the inside of my bottom teeth. Its great for practicing tongue speed and precision and will really help your scratch.

Oh and One more thing... To mix up the variation of the scratches in beats, just replace all hi-hat and filler(non bass or snare)noises in the beat with inward too-ka breaths/crab scratch. I also find that the outward K snares works best in crab scratch beats just because you can do the snare in your mouth and don't have to worry about losing your partition placement and messing up the scratch. Just keep practicing it. You'll get it with time. Just purse your lips and move your partition around(I push my thumb into my lips pretty firmly for the loudest scratch) while doing the too-ka inward breath and find the right hand/mouth position for making the scratch. Everybodies different so just find the placements and techniques that work for you.

Crab Scratch - its not corect!! its Abra Scratch! so..the real crab scratch sounds a little different! try to listen to a real crab scratch made by scratch dj`s!
