bet it seems alot shorter in real life funny people forget the cat and the controllers are 1 of the most important funtions of a carrier without it no jets
I'm a pilot (Well, training to be one), and there's nothing quite like that moment when you leave the ground and the plane starts to turn side to side. I can never stop myself from smiling.
Nope. When the plane is light, or when there's a lot of wind over the deck, they give you a lighter shot. Sometimes they give you less than you expect, and the plane settles toward the water a bit after it comes off the end.
@99kashus Nah, it's an S-3 without a doubt. If you're going solely off the fact that there are 4 crew and it MUST be a Prowler... Vikings also have 4 aircrew. Also, look out on the nose at the total lack of fuel probe. Also, the glareshield frame are obviously not a Prowler, and either is the tall side glass.
Doesn't hurt, it just feels like a roller coaster speeding up really fast. Its about 3 Gs (3x the force of gravity, about what astronauts feel at liftoff)
@KIBProductionz 0-180mph in about 2 seconds or so. It feels like going fast. Go on one of those rollercoasters which launch you forwards and that is the tip of the iceberg of a cat shot.
@KIBProductionz it feels like your insides gracefully pull to the backside of your body and slowly and softly turns weightless, all while adrenaline fills your body.
@KIBProductionz It doesn't hurt unless you don't brace yourself.. it just pins you in place for a very short period of time. I think landing is much worse because the hard pull seems to last much longer.
@KIBProductionz fuck i miss working on these!!!! S3B Viking. I HAVE been catapulted off a carrier twice in a C-2 Greyhound (we actually sit facing the rear of the plane in those) so imagine getting catapulted like that but facing the other direction. its a rush!! some get sick. haha
Neither. It's an S3 Viking. Easily discernible at :25 into the vid. The view out the co pilot's seat shows a cockpit window that extends up and wraps around the top of the aircraft. Not so on the E2 or C2. I'm a former Antisubmarine Warfare Operator. I know the S3 well.
It was the COTAC saying they two airspeed indicators (his own and the pilot's) didn't quite match. That would indicate a potential blockage in the pitot system which meant that one (or both) of their airspeeds indications would be wrong. That can spell disaster on landing if the airspeed is reading too far off.

The plane has to accelerate from 0 MPH to 200 MPH in 200 feet. You do the math.

Anyone knows why they say it's a great shot ?
Diastro3D 2 years ago
I think any time a plane takes off a carrier successfully it's considered a great shot :D
legacycx 2 years ago
He is reffering to the hit of the catapult at take-off/ launch.
706d 2 years ago
aka "catshot"
706d 2 years ago
how do you know if it's a "good shot"?
LarryThatKid 2 years ago
well, for one you aren't swimming right now.
Really, it is on a solid and successful take-off.
706d 2 years ago
So basically if you make it airborne is part of it, and part of it is kinda the strength of the actual "shot"?
LarryThatKid 2 years ago
I guess you could say that.
The cat shot is the catapult shot off of the deck.
So a "Great shot" would be a great shot off of the catapult or the "hit" of the catapult slinging you.
706d 2 years ago
Alirght, thanks for clarifying that for me =]

what was he saying at the end they didnt match intended airspeed?
