Dude,I've been playing the drums for 6 months, I think im made for this instrument, Im soon buying my frist drumkit, since I play at my friends house, would you mind telling what should I get and your skills are amazing!
Your timing is always spot on!! I have been playing drums for years and Double bass for about 4 years but I can not seem to get any speed out of my double pedal. I mean I can go maybe 130 bpm for maybe 40 seconds and then my legs just give out. I have been working on it for weeks and I hate to blame my pedal but I can not seem to get any more speed or endurance. I only want to have the option for small solos and stuff but I can not speed up no matter how much I work at it. I'm rambling on
@hiimtucker Thanks maybe I will try the Iron cobra. I have a gibralter and it seems to work properly (i guess) but I try so so many different exersises and my speed sucks. I mean I can play even, but I can not for the life of me increase my speed. I hate to blame it on the pedal but it is the only one I have ever used, so maybe it does suck. I do not "Need" to play fast, I just 'want' to. Sounds great in small fills and solos etc. My hand speed is fine.
@jordanjcm yeah. U deffinatley need an iron cobra if you want fast/ consistant speeds. i have one, they're the best....literally. But first off, how long have been playing?
@fambol Did he say that you "NEED" a double bass for this? He is just showing a cool beat. He is not here to show off. He is one of the tightest drummers I have ever heard and he is helping people. He is not competing.
@NCP919 you dont have to. i dont even use a technique and i can do this with single.(not bragging its nothing to brag about) double just makes it easier(not saying it makes everything easier) even though its already easy on single. i play it however my foots comfortable. all i know is i play heel up. if thats a technique then thats what i play.
you're toms sound incredible, i use ec2 heads aswell, but mine have a lot more ring, your 10" tom, sounds like my floor tom :P Is this a tuning thing or like a thick resonant head?
you can do all of that with a single pedal. I've been playing for like 6 months and I can do that with a single pedal. Don't get me wrong, I think there's plenty of merit in double bass playing, but I don't think its good to get lazy and rely on it too much. The more you practice single pedal speed the faster your double pedal speed will ultimately be. Not trying to start any arguments, just saying.
@WeReWoLf16100 You need to take off the front skin and put a pillow up against the back skin just about half way covering it then put your front skin back on again and hey presto you have a good bass drum. :)
@damddwarf well it don't sound as good as you think, to get a nice punchy bass drum sound keep the batter head medium and make the resonant head really loose, and you would think it'd be slow for the beater but its not really that slow especially if you tighten the pedal a lil, but stand in front of that and it'll sound like ur hearin it through a sub in a sound system at a live concert or somethin
Wow, thats really good. Why's he alway's getting 5 stars though, lol. I noticed he also plays other toms in unison with the snare, plus doubly plays the toms as well, not easy for a beginner, but not to hard to pickup i wouldnt think ------ Go Van's. Thanks
hey van is there anyway you could put another video with a little more tips on timing... im an extremely passionate drummer and need a little more structure to my technique
What kind of drumskin are you using, i have wondering for a time now what drumskin i should use. i want a really good sound, i have some crappy drumskins right now, i get a " plastic " sound and that doesnt sounds well at all. Im glad if someone could give some tips. Thanks. and great vid btw.
This can be accomplished with one pedal but for me it would take the fun factor out of it. I practiced single, double & triple strokes for years with single pedal and I prefer to have a double because of the open possibilities. And once again a hole lot of fun. Good job Van...DFC
The new EC2 SSTs are so much better then the old ones.. Same 2 7.0 plys, but new edge control ring and most important they used stronger metal for the frame. You can take any Evans head despite of how thick/thin and bend it due to the cheap metal they use. Now take any Remo head weather its a dipo hazy or black suede emp and they DO NOT BEND due to the use of good U.S. steel... But Evans finally corrected this on the new ec2 sst's. I hope they start doing this on all there heads.
hey, i am thinking about upgrading to a double bass pedal. i have been playing about five years. im trying to decide between dw 400 series ($100) or pearl p902 ($180). i was wondering if the pearl is worth the extra $80, or if i should just stick to the basics. help?
