  • Yeah, Nicko McBrain played that faster with one foot on Out of the Silent Planet. Good riff though.

  • how the hell do i get my mapex horizon 6piece to sound like yours?

  • The Drum heads sound cool - just wondering are those Evans coated drum heads??

  • @soundwaves007 The original Evans EC2 Coated. The New SST's are very dead sounding. (in my opinion). RVP

  • awesome\

  • muito bom pivor

  • yeah you guys are talkin

there is absolutley a difference between playin this on single pedal or on doubles

this is a drum lesson and if you get that stuff right you have to practise after seein' that

who cares if you can play that in a different way.

  • sounds cool as... be cooler with one foot tho :)

  • What toms are those?

  • what kind of a retarted tool would hit dislike ? this guy's incredible

  • good stuff, you dont need double bass to do this tho, it is actually better to learn single pedal

  • heyyy cool i didnt even know i did this until i heard it... i love this kind of beat

  • THAT PEDO VOICE AT 1:55 SCARED THE FUCK OUTTA ME

  • 0:25 sounds a bit like the drumming of the verse of lamb of god´s redneck :D

  • OMG, I was reading the comments towards the end and the voice at 1.56 scared the shit outta me xD

  • Dude,I've been playing the drums for 6 months, I think im made for this instrument, Im soon buying my frist drumkit, since I play at my friends house, would you mind telling what should I get and your skills are amazing!

  • what batter head do u use on ur bass drum? and what do u muffle it with

  • I love how you actually seem like your going slow-mo when you slow down.

  • sexy kitttttt....i want a sound sample of each of your drums and cymbals "O_O"

  • promark with nylon tips?

  • I can play that with a single pedal.

  • Boooooooooring .........

  • You an ANIMAL DUDE! Love the videos!

  • Slow down the tempo a bit and this is the groove from RATT'S "Lay It Down".

  • wow tom orgasm

  • Really like that you get to the point without 100years of talking :D Just bought a Pearl P-902 , and wanna learn using it :D Thumbs up!

  • Iron cobras are good but I would say to try the DW 9000 it expensive but they are great

  • Your timing is always spot on!! I have been playing drums for years and Double bass for about 4 years but I can not seem to get any speed out of my double pedal. I mean I can go maybe 130 bpm for maybe 40 seconds and then my legs just give out. I have been working on it for weeks and I hate to blame my pedal but I can not seem to get any more speed or endurance. I only want to have the option for small solos and stuff but I can not speed up no matter how much I work at it. I'm rambling on

  • @jordanjcm you sir, need the Tama Iron Cobra double bass pedal

  • @hiimtucker Thanks maybe I will try the Iron cobra. I have a gibralter and it seems to work properly (i guess) but I try so so many different exersises and my speed sucks. I mean I can play even, but I can not for the life of me increase my speed. I hate to blame it on the pedal but it is the only one I have ever used, so maybe it does suck. I do not "Need" to play fast, I just 'want' to. Sounds great in small fills and solos etc. My hand speed is fine.

  • @jordanjcm yeah. U deffinatley need an iron cobra if you want fast/ consistant speeds. i have one, they're the best....literally. But first off, how long have been playing?

  • epic awesomeness

  • is your bass drum triggered?

  • @MrGildenlow92 nope, Just a mic. RVP

  • @vansdrumming does the bass drum have an ec 2 also? what are you using for resonant side heads? Thanks

  • @SOUTHPAW731 No a Remo Pinstripe on the bass drum. I am using Remo single ply for the resos. RVP

    vanzdrumming com

  • NEVER EVER underestimate Yamaha.

  • jizz at how good the drum sounds.

  • you don' need the double bass for this.

  • @fambol Did he say that you "NEED" a double bass for this? He is just showing a cool beat. He is not here to show off. He is one of the tightest drummers I have ever heard and he is helping people. He is not competing.

  • Thats a gallop lol

  • i think every buddy do this thing with one leg...

it kind of stupid to do it on this tempo with double..

  • @NCP919 you dont have to. i dont even use a technique and i can do this with single.(not bragging its nothing to brag about) double just makes it easier(not saying it makes everything easier) even though its already easy on single. i play it however my foots comfortable. all i know is i play heel up. if thats a technique then thats what i play.

  • Hopefully you didn't pay the guy for the VO at the end. Nice drumming, though :)

  • you're toms sound incredible, i use ec2 heads aswell, but mine have a lot more ring, your 10" tom, sounds like my floor tom :P Is this a tuning thing or like a thick resonant head?

  • If you can do this with one pedal, is it done with the heel toe thing?

  • @NPC919 yea basicly..

  • you can do all of that with a single pedal. I've been playing for like 6 months and I can do that with a single pedal. Don't get me wrong, I think there's plenty of merit in double bass playing, but I don't think its good to get lazy and rely on it too much. The more you practice single pedal speed the faster your double pedal speed will ultimately be. Not trying to start any arguments, just saying.

  • your drum sounds so cool

  • Why do you need a double pedals for this? with some practice its easily done with just the right foot

  • The toms sound awesome

  • haha, the classic iron maiden beat.

  • @edmundtayhokim but iron maiden had single bass... correct?

  • lol that beat sounded like Disturbed - Voices song for a minute

  • how u make ur basses sound like that like a dead beat

  • @WeReWoLf16100 You need to take off the front skin and put a pillow up against the back skin just about half way covering it then put your front skin back on again and hey presto you have a good bass drum. :)

  • Yep.

  • ya but i did that and it dusnt sound like his? or is it that i dont have a double bass pedal lol..and also do u do the same thing wit duh toms?

  • @damddwarf well it don't sound as good as you think, to get a nice punchy bass drum sound keep the batter head medium and make the resonant head really loose, and you would think it'd be slow for the beater but its not really that slow especially if you tighten the pedal a lil, but stand in front of that and it'll sound like ur hearin it through a sub in a sound system at a live concert or somethin

  • @damddwarf

I've done it, but one of the lugs for putting the front skin back on broke... so It won't stay on right.

  • haha im with u on that one man

  • stagg drumsticks ??

  • Comment removed

  • @tamsinlewis12 no they are pro mark sticks i think

  • kinda reminds me of a slower Crystal Mountain beat by Death ha

  • yeah it does. Gene Hoglan is an awsome drummer

  • Great tip, and great recording!!!

  • its called a gallop lol

  • I think Iron Maiden and other metal bands uses that beat alot! Its a cool as hell beat!:D

  • @Bice404 NO! Maiden never youe double bass, yeah they gallop but Nick would never use one.

  • YAY promark for the WIN promark 5A ny lon tips are gods along with vic firth steve gad sigs with nylon

those sticks are the shit nice beat i dig it

  • Hot Damn!

Nice one. I'm a drummer too, so I would really like to know, what kit you are using in this video. It sounds like Paradise to me :)

  • Good lesson.

I'm into more heavy double bass, but good

  • that sounds like and angles orgasm..... just beautiful haha

  • Wow, thats really good. Why's he alway's getting 5 stars though, lol. I noticed he also plays other toms in unison with the snare, plus doubly plays the toms as well, not easy for a beginner, but not to hard to pickup i wouldnt think ------ Go Van's. Thanks

  • sounds beautiful

  • hey van is there anyway you could put another video with a little more tips on timing... im an extremely passionate drummer and need a little more structure to my technique

  • You can do the first rhythm in a basic way with no double bass pedal at all.

  • What kind of drumskin are you using, i have wondering for a time now what drumskin i should use. i want a really good sound, i have some crappy drumskins right now, i get a " plastic " sound and that doesnt sounds well at all. Im glad if someone could give some tips. Thanks. and great vid btw.

  • Evans These are EC2 Coated heads. RVP

    vanzdrumming com

  • alright, thank you very much :D!

  • @keffoman depends on yur genre of music, but for bass drum, remo pinstripe, and the whole kit u cant go wrong with remo there great

  • This can be accomplished with one pedal but for me it would take the fun factor out of it. I practiced single, double & triple strokes for years with single pedal and I prefer to have a double because of the open possibilities. And once again a hole lot of fun. Good job Van...DFC

  • Your drums sound awesome!!!!!! 5*

  • Evans.

  • ya but like what model of evans

  • cooooler set realy and nice lesson

  • I want to learn how to do that on a single bass pedal. John Bonham did it.

  • It's called the heel toe. I would teach you, but it's better that you look it up ^.^

  • lol i mean Kit. haha

  • you have a really nice sound kid. What brand is it?

  • Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute

    RVP

    vanzdrumming com

  • I've tried that. I am right handed, but i start with my left foot.

Very strange i cannot start with my right foot.

  • u dont needa use a double kick for this, u can use a single pedal with the same result...

  • @osiris90210 Easier, and more convienient with 2.

  • @osiris90210 ses the poor man....i jus bought one, a real cheap ass one tho,,,totally worth it, i think u should invest

  • THATS A NICE SOUNDING DRUM KIT DAMN

  • that's the first thing I learned myself :-D

  • if you can play that, i want you to put up a video of it and post a video response with it.

and then i'll make the call.........

  • how in the world did you get you bass drum to sound like that?!?!?! amazing!!! good leson too, i will aply it to my drumming!

  • i have never heard such a perfect sound!!!

  • ik it doesnt even sound real

  • is that microphone tweaking or does that drums kit just sound magical ?

  • No tweeking, no effects, no compression. Direct into a board and into my camera. RVP

    vanzdrumming com

  • magic =]

  • it's obviously well peaked, but i imagine his kit is just amazing

  • The new EC2 SSTs are so much better then the old ones.. Same 2 7.0 plys, but new edge control ring and most important they used stronger metal for the frame. You can take any Evans head despite of how thick/thin and bend it due to the cheap metal they use. Now take any Remo head weather its a dipo hazy or black suede emp and they DO NOT BEND due to the use of good U.S. steel... But Evans finally corrected this on the new ec2 sst's. I hope they start doing this on all there heads.

  • Thanks, I know they have changed them and I am about to put a new set on the kit. I just hope they sound as good. RVP

    vanzdrumming com

  • que tipo de parches para toms utiliza?

  • Hey Randy do you use the same heads for top and bottom?

  • hey, i am thinking about upgrading to a double bass pedal. i have been playing about five years. im trying to decide between dw 400 series ($100) or pearl p902 ($180). i was wondering if the pearl is worth the extra $80, or if i should just stick to the basics. help?

  • the pearl eliminator is AWESOME!

  • yeah i know! i just dont have that much money lol

  • i would buy one at all, i did and i regret it. never use it

  • dw 4002 is pretty cool

  • when i upgraded to double bass, i bought a DW 4000, was about £100, it was absoloutly incredible. perfect for beginners on duble bass..

  • Ugh, how can you play that clunky Z custom crash.
