and shortly after you had to replace your transmission. axod sucks
had 2 of them and got an sho, pegged that bugger at about 150 in oklahoma. then realized that i was doing 150 on cheap ass tires and slowed down to 60. bout a mile later i saw 3 highway patrol parked on the side waiting for someone to speed past them.
i have an 93 taurus with 89000 miles on it :D replaced waterpump-radiator-fuelpump-hood. gonan renew the sparkplugs this weekend and work on the tranny .. make that baby scream again:) however what is upgrading to a sho cluster...how does that go? greets from iowa
@ezracaligiuri87 all you gotta do is pull the stock instrument cluster from your dash and intall a new one from a sho. no modifications needed and is very easy. Just plugs right in and looks great.
@ezracaligiuri87 all you gotta do is pull the stock instrument cluster from your dash and intall a new one from a sho. no modifications needed and is very easy. Just plugs right in and looks great. Did it on my 95 and found out it only goes 101 mph lol
Dude, I got the same car. I break 85 and the needle touches the dash just like urs too. mine clocks out at about 105 though. the taurus gl will fly though... especially with a blowoff valve
If you still have the car, do a cold start on it. Those are my favorite kind of cars. That goes for all you people who own that kkind of car, do a cold start for crying out loud!
The Taurus 3 liter motor was probally one of the most durable motors ever. Not very gutsy, but damn near bullet proof. I have a '95 Taurus GL, I think the GL stands for Gut Less lol, other than that its a nice car!
i always thought when i saw "GL" on the back of fords it meant Good Luck so i guess the fraise "Gool Luck" refers to you because after 85 you just have hope for "Good Luck"!!
I had a 93 Taurus 3.8 and that drove me NUTS when I would drive through Atlanta on the way to Florida. I was always getting passed at some unknown speed lol. Anyway, I refer to that area as "Going Dashboard" until I got an SHO speedometer with Tach, plus it added a low fuel light :) Anyway, they are speed limited to 108MPH and you will feel it on that car, it cuts in and out really hard.
Also, if you have a Taurus with the regular instrument cluster (the one without the tach) you can also take the cluster equipped with a tachometer out of, say, a Taurus LX/Sable GS/Sable LS/Sable LTS or some Taurus SE models and it will work in a Taurus GL.
But, the digital cluster gets a bit more complicated.
And, there might be one problem with a tach out of a SHO: the redline is higher on a SHO than it is on the regular models.

Do what I did and upgrade to a SHO cluster. You'll get a 140 MPH spedo and a tachometer. :)

200twistatwista 4 years ago
Well, you could find a police spec Taurus speedometer or a speedometer from a SHO.
These parts are completely interchangeable with cars equipped with the regular 85 MPH speedometers with no modifications required.
Plug-n-play.
Watcher3223 4 years ago
would you have to change one or the whole unit as one

Just the speedo.

are you serious i have a speedo that reds 85 but foun o in a junkyard but wasent shure it work ?
RoyerGomez 4 years ago
So long as the speedometer itself is functional, the change can be done with no modifications.
Check out the TCCA ((dot]]com[[ website for more info.
Watcher3223 4 years ago
That was only maybe 95mph. Even my 100hp 4cyl. Lebaron has done 108mph and it has no guts.
