  • hey.

my hamsters had 6 babies and its their 10th day today. People say your not supposed to touch mum but ive been holding her as normal ever since the birth, im just wondering when i get to hold the pups? they all have or are starting to get fur but their eyes arent open yet, thanks :)

  • Wait till their eyes are open, they'll squeak less when you hold them if they can see what's going on so mum will be less distressed. We held mum and babies at first so she knew what was going on and we also rubbed our hands in the bedding so that they still smelt of the cage when they went back in. Ours were about 14-15 days when we held them but they were all hairy and had their eyes open so you should be fine soon :)

  • how can you touch them? im not sure how old my babies are but they can walk around an they are eating solid foo (peanuts) but they havent opened their eyes yet, can i touch them? they are also really hairy

  • normally wait for their eyes to open but if they're eating solids and are quite big, size of your thumbish - then you should be alright - just rub you hands in the cage first so they still smell like it when they go back in and maybe take mum out too so she knows what's going on. Also don't take them all out at once, if you leave mum in the cage maybe take one or two so she doesn't notice :)

  • Aww I love your video!! The hamsters are so cute!!!

  • hi there. my hamster had 8 pups today and am abit nervous coz this is the first time that ive ad a hamster thats ad babys. if u could give me ne advice at all i would be very grateful. by the way ur video of ur baby hamsters is sweet. good luck with them and the mother

  • i just got 8 baby hamsters and now its their 4th day!!! any advice?

  • Try and keep the noise to a minimum cos Mum won't like it is it's too loud around her cage. Don't touch them or mum, and if you have to go in the cage to change food etc then do so quickly and try not to disturb them. It's very tempting to peek at them but you'll see them soon and by two weeks you can start trying to hold them, depending on how mum feels about that - hope that helps :)

  • Aww! How cute! Me and my bf want to have some russian dwaf hamster babies but we cant find a mate for the male aywhere.. Oh well lol on day :)

  • my momma hamster had 12 babys it has been 6 days and only 1 has not made it.but the reast are doing good i can't wate till they get bigger. your lil guys are so cute.

  • erm you can't really but their cycle is only 4 days so they'll be up for it on a couple of days and not so much on the other couples - you just gotta judge their behaviour - mokee had a bit of a scrap with locksley one night but was fine to try the next day hehe

  • my syrian hamster just had babies 6 days ago, i know its too soon to touch them now, but when are you able to touch them? i dont want them to get eaten

  • erm about 2-3 weeks is fine but it all depends on the mummy - Mokee was really fine with us so she didn't mind at all but if you're unsure just leave it a while longer - or maybe hold them in the cage through the door so the mum knows you mean them no harm x

  • i i l i lo i lov i love i love i love h i love ha i love ham i love hams i love hamste i love hamster i love hamsters
  • wow they r so sute

love lily truscott as emily osmite

  • hehe yeah they were cute - easier to handle at this age than when they got bigger and were all over the place!! I don't imagine any of them are with us anymore tho - Millie died in January so was over 2 years

  • I love hamsters but I think they are adorbily ugly when born

  • haha yeah they are a bit but doesn't take long for them to grow cute :)

  • how many days were they in this video?

  • erm just over 2 weeks I think - you can usually hold them by then but it all depends on the mum

  • my hamster had 2 baby hamsters and they mysteriously disappeared the next day:(

  • I think she ate them. They often do that.

  • Poor babies... maybe the mom ate it? bcoz others say that some mom hammies eat their own babies, (it depends if you touched the babies, it's smell will change and will make the mom think it's not her baby).. maybe that's what happened why it disappeared..

  • Yeah it depends on lots of things - if you touch them too early and get your scent on them, if one of them is ill and the mum can tell, if the mum feels the litter is too big for her to handle, if the mum feels she's not getting enough food to keep her going, if the cage is too small...etc - lots of things - hammies are quite bad mothers haha. All 8 of ours were fine tho :) I only just lost the one I kept (the runt, Millie) and she turnt 2 last november

  • haha! yeah.. they ate their own child.. wow... that's good they are still alive! they were very cute just like mine.. and, i added you as friend.. :-)

  • i hAVE A HAMSTER THAT LOOKS LIKE THAT BUT SHE IS 3 MONTHES BUT SHE IS SO VERY SMALL.

  • yeah my hamster letme pick the babies up when they were 11 days old there 14 days today and nobody got eaten

  • cute =] i love them when there this age, there head seems too big for there body lol and they stumble around the cage =] i find it serprising how they know there way back to there nest,,,,so cute...cant waite till my next lot =]

  • !!CUTE!! The mother wont eat them if she feels comfortable with her owner. but if she doesnt shell eat them

  • i dont think you were supposed to touch them for about a month..

  • it depends - every hammie different but mokee didn't mind :)

  • after the mom has giveb birth, is it ok to leave the dad in there?

  • they look like gummy bears :=D

  • haha yeah they do look a little like gummy bears. we were doing a head count cos there were 9 babies to begin with but Mokee...the mum...ate one, the runt. from then on we were a little worried about the rest but they all made it through and are doing very well and getting very fat :) I kept the new runt and the rest went to friends, family and pet shop. they are 9 weeks old now.

  • they r 7 babies not 8 correct ur math

love lilly truscott as emilly osmite

  • nope - There are 8 - I raised them so am pretty sure - wait till the end of the video and you'll see the 8th one - correct your math
