Easy... there aren't any actual latches on the back side of the lid. when the tent goes down, the lid opens from the back. When the tent comes up, the whole scenario with the locks is just for show.
And there is enough space in the lid of the box to allow the girl breathe. Then, she dives again when the curtain is raised at the middle of the performance.
A look-up in IMDB lists a credit for Christine Cullen in "The Great Muppet Caper" as one of the water ballet performers. I don't know whether it's the same person.
A synchro swimmer would be a good choice for the girl in the tank. She would be comfortable in the water, & could hold her breath underwater for a long time.
hmm Im thinkin that lady has a twin sister and they traded spots or something behind the curtain. I bet that curtain has an extra layer to hide behind lol
It is from a 1985 HBO specila called Mumbo Jumbo its Magic. You are right it is Chritine Cullen. A great bikini. Also watch Mark's wife in this clip. She looks through the curtain a but tells the perfromers what to do and even looks like she gives them one of the keys she is holding. Not real smooth but a neat trick for the time.
"For the time" indeed. I believe it was earlier than 1985. The copy I have is dated about 1980, but I'll need to check.
Performances today are more spectacular, of course, and smoother. Still thrilling, though. This is still a dangerous stunt. A number of would-be magicians & escape artists have drowned trying these stunts.
She ought to be. When Mark Wilson debuted this trick, on the NBC variety series, THE BIG SHOW, Ms. Cullen was one of the resident chorus girls ("The Big Show Dancers").
I COULD FUCK HER

Great variation on the Metamorphosis act that the Pendragons still do. It might not be as quick, but it's a lot scarier!

Would you happen to be able to show the intro with Tom Bosley? I've been trying to find all sorts of archive show intros from the 80's.

hehe, after 1, 2 3, a dry haired lady appeared....

Look again at about 2:55.
Christine emerged from behind the curtain. She's wet, including her hair.
If you look closely at the floor as she steps away, you'll also see her wet footprints.

I love how it's corny and dated, but the trick still works its wonder :)

Yes, it's a few years old. Still quite impressive, though. Much more difficult than the regular substitution trunk.
I wonder if anyone is still performing it.
