@CCMrJones Jazz is most popular for slapping but in theory it can be done on any bass (P, Stingray,...). Depends on what kind of sound you're after: Jazz is more trebly, P is thumpier (in general). Try out as many as you can and see which one you like best.

A surprisingly melodic bit of slap. Far above any of the stupid shit a guy I know plays and tries to tell me that he can play bass and I can't. I used to hate slap because all I heard was "crack smack whack" with no tone whatsoever. This stuff, though, is really good.

diffrent strings help, i use DR's when i slap *also the ones marlowe uses on some of his basses and marcus miller himself uses DR's*. Also low action helps. As for tone put the bass/low at about 3 o' clock, treble/high at about 2 o' clock and not much mid.

I've been playing for 3-4 months and I think slapping is simple. It took 3 days to get Slap down then 5 days for Slap and Pop together. I can't slap as fast as this guy but I'm making my own riffs and I'm going to put one on youtube eventually. To be honest I think slap can go into any type of music. I've got a friend who's been playing for 5 years and is in a band and thier band plays rock and metal and my friend puts slapping in all of thier songs (and the songs sound awesome).
