It is a kit. I have bought it and put it on my 1976 free spirit road bike. It "feels" fast but is not that fast. While it did come in a kit I had to go through slot of trouble fitting it and had to make a whole new back hub for it. It was a pain but worth it. It was a fun learning experiment and I really enjoyed it! Good video guys!

In california you pay $19 to register it and you get a plate, no insurance needed, and no registration after that.

Way cheaper than buying a used motorcycle.

I've put about 200 miles on my bike riding around Burbank and the surrounding areas without any problems.

@hackmattr yeah but you can only go short distances its a good thing if your job is 10 miles away max, but if you have to go on highways and/or your job is kinda far then go for a motor bike i prefer enduro because i can take it into a trail and still ride it on the street

@sylvaticalexpro Yea. I like the enduro's too.Insurance is the only thing that keeps me from buying any motorcycle because it would be more than I could afford at the moment. I've used my motor bike to go to my college 15 miles away once before, but it takes a lot longer than using a regular motorcycle or car. It's fun to keep up with traffic while at the side of the road and you get a lot of attention on one because people don't expect to see a motor on a bicycle.

Good video and cool bike but for bicycles electric is definitely the way to go. I have an electric bike and I absolutely love every minute of it. Also for people wondering about the speed, keep in mind that legally up bike are not allowed to go faster than 20 miles an hour.

I've been a bum not really i worked over 100 hours a week for 2 months fell sleep on the highway and totaled my car. l bought a motor for my bike i fucking saves my one of my jobs. They are fun to build and fun to tweak I built an extra magneto to run some light emitting diodes also make 1 level break both breaks. It can also be work out trust me you choose your level of intensity. I can bunny hop mine bike, pull wheelies. enjoy the fear proof padded room haters I own on this bike.

Would replace the gas engine with an electric one and the batteries mounted on the rear. Would give q lot more torque, is green, and doesn't need to be started. Still a nice build.

fix your gear ratio to it go faster, putting a larger gear on the motors drive shaft and a much smaller gear on the back wheel would increase the rotations significantly!

One question I have about this bike, how do you make it stop? I see no brakes anywhere on it.

@themakingofstuff I thought that myself, but if you look at the right side handle, its just a twist throttle, no brake. Also the back has no braking on it. The rubber stoppers that catch the rim of the tire are gone, which would be kinda pointless anyways for the speed, and there is no disk brakes of anything on the back sprocket. It looks to be a totally brake-less bike.

Ok, for those who are VERY slow: MAKE magazine also showcases OTHER makers and their projects. Not EVERY video is supposed to show you how to do everything step by step without using your own brain. Besides, they cite what article covers HOW TO MAKE A BIKE in their magazine. MAKE is a magazine publisher after all, not just some free site to cater to your whims!

Your right something is wrong with the speed, Iv been up to 52mph on a good day with some small mods but the objective isn't only speed It is to have a nice cruz along without a pedal.

@friik100 Definitely doesn't. Probably at that point some idiot kicked it or pulled throttle cable, or whatever, and carb was mounted not very good, so it changed position.

I can't really see on video, but looks like when he's driving, carb is in normal position, so they fixed it.

So i modded a frame and installed an engine from old soviet chainsaw. Now it's something worth riding. Looks very cool and goes much better - 60+ kmh max speed, much better acceleration.
