i remember watching this with my little sister so long ago, i forget what it was about. thats y im here. the only part i DO remember is when she was in the cage and i think she got 2 horns...?
I actually met the writer of the movie screenplay and novel a few years back. Peter S.Beagle the writer is an excellent songwriter and as a writer has a great imagination. And I can say he's a wonderful man to chat with,
I remember reading this book in my second grade class; I found it somewhere and started reading it because it had a unicorn on it.... When I saw the movie the nostalgia was overwhelming.
I remember seeing this movie a few years back, didnt quite understand it, probally cause this wasnt a childrens fantasy, certainly not child approprate too, that harpy....
@Mybuddhakitty- Actually, My Little Pony is a rip off of the Last Unicorn. This movie is based off a book that was written in the 1960's. My Little Pony, I believe, is from the 1980's.
I remember watching it as a kid and as years passed I forgot it even existed. Long story short, after a conversation with a friend about how children's films back then were better than ones today after I saw Secret of NIHM, one look at Amalthea and a question and remembering it became equaled a quickening from the Highlander.
Watching it again as an adult, it made more sense and it became a huge eye opener on my life (I am not joking). I defend and praise this film as much as Secret of NIMH
I remember loving this one movie about a unicorn when I was little but I don't think it was this. All I remember was the unicorn's name was Sunstar, because I got a stuffed animal unicorn and named it after her :) I'm still desperately trying to find the name of the movie though....
You might be meaning Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders. It was a cartoon series from 1995. I'm not sure if they had a movie, but there's a white unicorn named SunStar in the show.
@DrSamanthasaurus Maybe you're thinking of a 'My Little Pony' movie? I know we all think MLP is retarded, NOW, but as a kid I loved up the magical flying ponies :D
I grew up with this movie since i was 4 and one of my childhood faves along with Warriors of the Wind, Secret of NIMH, Dark Crystal, Star Wars, Pinocchio and more. Who else remembers Warriors of the Wind? the 1985 american butchered dub of Nausicaa, that was my favorite animated movie growing up as a kid since i was 4 and loved it so much i had my parents buy it for me on my 5th birthday and even made another copy by taping it off HBO and buying a third copy at age 10.
the unicorn said "i was just wondering if you have seen other unicorns like me, i think im the last of my kind" .."yeah theyre called horses and stop being such a picky whiny little bitch!"
I'm so glad this movie got a Blu-Ray release, it looks great!
The old DVD I had looked like it was copied from a worn out VHS and only had a censored audio track. I will do a review video of the Blu-Ray release as soon as I can. :)
i loved this movie as a kid the songs the unicorns the parts tht scared me hahaha XD i am currently reading the book and i love it and i plan on buying the dvd and i am obsessed with the song the last unicorn hahaha
This used to be my favorite movie when I was younger. There was just something about it that I loved! And watching this trailer brings back so many memories. :)
I loved this movie as a kid! I just saw it for sale in a store and I felt compelled to watch the trailer. This movie and The NeverEnding Story are two of my favorite children's movies that I remember watching over and over. (Can you also count Star Wars and Jurassic Park as kids films? Haha.)
@Nightbird87 Last Unicorn and Neverending Story aren't just meant for kids. They are timeless fantasies meant for every age. Secret of NIMH, Krull, The Dark Cyrstal, Labyrinth, Willow, The Hobbit ,The Lord of the Rings, Wizards, Fire and Ice, Heavy Metal, Light Years, Starchaser: The Legend of Orin, Fantastic Planet, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, Mulan and Atlantis: The Lost Empire are all great as well.
Don't forget there's also Legend, The Princess Bride, Flight of Dragons, Harry Potter, My Neighbor Totoro, Wizard of Oz, willy Wonka, Return to Oz, Nightmare Before christmas, Beetlejuice, etc. are great examples of good fantasies for every age. Gotta love Lady Amalthea.
@Johnlindsey289 Lady Amalthea is my girl right along with Taarna. Alice in Wonderland, The Witches, James and the Giant Peach,The B.F.G., Edward Scissorhands, Rock&Rule etc. are all great as well.
Don't forget Critters 2 was PG-13 rated by mistake and had gore including a scene where that bounty hunter turned into a hot nude blonde chick that we both adore.
Me too, SB rules! Do you think Ian Mckellen would make a good live-action King Haggard or Robert Englund? there was a planned live-action adaptation of the novel in 2002 but never got made, maybe they should do it to capitalize on Harry Potter and LOTR's successes. Robbie Coltrane should be the cat's voice don't you think?
@Johnlindsey289 Yeah, or Christopher Lee himself could even play King Haggard in the live action version. Robbie Coltrane would be a good choice for the cat too.
I love this movie...when I was a little girl I certainly knew there was something "off" about it...then watched as a young adult. Made so much more sense!! I love the little homage to Alice in Wonderland (Schmendrick riddling Ruhk, Why is a raven like a writing desk?)
My Mom tried using this movie to reasure my 5 year old self that cartoons were still fun after I was scared by Charolette's Web...it's a miracle I ever watched cartoons again. I do love this movie as an adult though.
They should remake this film, but with real people. Ben Stiller can play Shmendrik, Jim Carey can do the voice of the skeleton, Chistopher Lee can be King Haggard, Hayden Christensen can Prince Lir, Nicole Kidman can play the Lady Amalthea,
please can someone upload the full movie of 'The Little Unicorn (1998) film' thanks, not this cartoon but the film with 'George Hamilton' from casper meets wendy

Although I'm generally not very fond of America's music......the theme song they did for this movie is actually quite beautiful. It sets the stage for the melancholy air of the story.
....speaking of which, I highly reccomend the original novel by Peter S. Beagle. The film is virtually a perfect adaptation, but Beagle's prose is sublime.
Omg I got this for my 4th b day and I'm 12 and still love it

Although I'm generally not very fond of America's music......the theme song they did for this movie is actually quite beautiful. It sets the stage for the melancholy air of the story.
....speaking of which, I highly reccomend the original novel by Peter S. Beagle. The film is virtually a perfect adaptation, but Beagle's prose is sublime.
Great film, great novel, great storytelling.
