I think the English version is the best. I can clearly hear what she is saying the entire time, and I simply LOVE her voice throughout the whole series. The scene where she sings this is what made it my favorite song in the world.
@killer12480 I think the German was just terrible. I have nothing against the language, but I hate the way it sounded. In my opinion, compared the the English, it sounded coarse and rough, and too low-pitched. I thought the Japanese was tolerable, but her voice was too high-pitched.
also ich find die japanische version überraschend gut wenn man die anglizismen im japanischen kennt und hört wie die sonst "ausländische" stücke singen....... also:
Im spanish, so i dont know about the accents, but about the voice, japanese version sounds better than others, is more soft and nice to hear. Im no saying others are bad, they are pretty good, but japanese is my choice
So far, the japanese voice actress is far better in singing, even if she does not really pronounce it right, but who can do that with some foreign language.
The german singer, is really bad, and this should be something to think about, cause its a german opera.
I´m german and I just mean the german in the scene is bad with an accent the text is correct of course. There is a version without an accent here in youtube but I cant find it to post
the japanese womans has the worst pronounces she's excellent voice actress, but the English dub's voice is much better for this song.and the german Version Is THE BEST ^_^
The JAP Version is bad i can't understand what she's saying and im GERMAN Really U GUYs????????
In terms of voice quality, I like the Japanese singer better, but it definitely helps to actually have a German sing it. XD Also, I like the English dub better, as it seems more natural for the characters (seeing as how they're in Europe >.>). I think the fact that they're in Europe made the English voice actors' job a lot easier since they could talk in a more normal manner, as their usual voice patterns etc. would be more realistic than trying to match the Japanese' pattern.
I would judge, but not knowing how to judge a German accent when its attempting to be portrayed in Japanese I can't really tell. At present my favorites are in order of appearance in the video
i liked the english version because her voice is really strong and seems like it can hit those high notes. usually depending on how you move your body helps gives you a loud voice. The japanese is pretty but i think it s bit to low. Also manyenglish dubs on other shows are terrible but for hellsing they probably picked the best english voices compared to anything else so far. However everyone has their own opinion
I agree. It's an aweful shame that the german accent is beyond reach in the japanese version, but still I favour the original since no dub has yet managed to sound as good and natural. The feeling in the voiceacting is of utter importance for it to be any good.
I still love the English one because it just sounds like everyones just enjoying themselve. In terms of Rip, I really don't hear too much of a difference in all 3 versions..
lolz the english have a horrible akcent :P as a german i think the german version sounds good because theres no akcent and the japanese is nice performed too because the dubber has the best voice :P but nevermind there just little differences.
I was never really a fan of english dubs but this show actually had good dubs even though her singing wasnt good all the major/important caracters had good voices
My best friend made me love Rip van Winkel this much and so I love this song as well... I think the japanese version sounds quite cute, like the pronounciation.^^ But the English and the German version are very good, too. Great song! Thanks to Carl Maria von Weber!
i'm a german and for me the japanese version sounds terrible because of poor pronunciation. the english version sounds much better but there ist still an accent excisting, so the german version sounds better for me (because there is no accent and the pronunciation is correct; what a coincidence)
@darkw0lfnz When you listen to them and think about Rip's character and the song she is singing I would have to sing that Maaya Sakamoto does the best. She is able to grab the emotion of Rip, and I believe this is the point. She is not performing the song as if part of the play, she is simply childishly amused, singing one of her favorite songs. I do feel that she is flat in the beginning of the excerpt. Having listened to this clip in any version I could find none of them really live up to it.
I personally think the English dub works best because... she actually sounds like she's bloody enjoying it all. The German dub, while the most accurate, sounds like Rip should be performing in an Opera House, not on the deck of a Nazi Flagship. The Japanese dub just sounds too mousy for me, almost as if Rip was self conscious about it all, hoping her comrades wouldn't overhear her.
@deakka Yah, they should have brought up the volume on the Japanese version, really. Maaya Sakamoto has a very light sound as it is but then they have made her even quieter than normal. However, I do feel, like some other posters that she acts as Rip the best of all of them. They probably choose Maaya because of her singing ability and fan base, sadly. But then, the way the Japanese speak, the way someone who loves music like this...They would not understand it as we do.
No single version outdoes the other - they both have their pros and cons here. The German version gets the correct pronunciation, the English version gets SORTA close to the correct notes, and the Japanese version retains the character's (in Hellsing, obviously, not Der Freischutz) personality the best.
They all suffer from a great dearth of opera technique, but then again, I highly doubt that's high on Winkle's priority list, eh? :P
The German version didn't sound nearly has good as the first two mainly because she didn't seem to have a strong enough voice for the part. The English version was well sung with extremely clear diction but it sounded a little too harsh for the side of Rip's personality that I think was trying to be displayed in this clip. The Japanese version definitely had the young and dare I say 'innocent' sound that I think fits Rip best when she sings, but you could tell she had trouble with pronunciation.
Kari Wahlgren's version sounds the loudest. I always think opera should be projected, Melanie Manstein also projects quite well Maaya Sakamoto is hard to hear.
I love all 3.:-) The japanese voice does a great job in singing german, which probably must have been rather difficult for her. The english one is pretty good to, though she slows down a few times, which ruins the impact somewhat. But the german voice of course sings the song perfectly. It is after all, a german song.
really, none of them are done with the original timbre. The original was written for tenor. All of the voices were female because of the character and each had its own pros and cons. The Japanese did not have the best diction but it was possibly the clearest. The English and German versions were closer to the original register of the piece but all in all were not as understandable. The excerpt is actually from the aria "Das Wild in Fluren und Triften". Really, all of them did a decent job.
What are u talking about? The german version is the best one! The others just sound sooo wrong... the japanese version sounds like a little asian girl with a tiny tiny voice, and the english one sounds like a choir boy with no emotions... and the german version, c'mon a beautiful womans voice singing every german word like it has to be... the best one^^
Personal favorite is the English version, maybe because it's easiest to hear (one I sing along with, at any rate).
As for none of them being 'perfect,' I bet most people's singing quality kinda lowers while they're flipping around and swinging guns. (As if we're talking in terms of realism here, what am I thinking.)
the Japanese is too cute to give second place :P she hits the notes best. my personal favorite.
i think the English one is really good, and far better than what you usualy get when they dub something into english.
technically the best singer.
it is ironic, but the German dub was the worst.
needless to say the pronunciation is the best. but she does a horrible job at hitting notes and her voice is technically worse then the English singer.
@evilblades I have to agree with you. I would love to hear the japanese voice actress for RVW sing the Panzerlied. Every german song she sings takes on such a chipper and happy ring.
German version sounds too old, not childish enough. English is kinda good too, nice and clear. And Maaya Sakamoto just makes me biased. (I like her >_>)
i kinda like the japanese version because it has tht echoe in her voice when she sings which makes nice. but i like the english version too cause it's loud and clear
German voice is boring, japanese voice is too soft.
I love the english version, not only does she have a more powerful voice (especially when she sings the last bit), but she sounds much more like she's actually enjoying the singing rather than just performing (which fits the character perfectly). I normally avoid dubs like the plague, but on this one the english voice wins hands down.
also die j vison ist wüglich gut dafür das sie in deutsch sinkt fast perfekt nja die englische vison =? no suks sory deutsch nja hette man beser trefen könen XD
Honestly, I prefer the japanese version, specially because the seiyuu (voice actor) Maaya Sakamoto have more experiencie in opera... The german actor voice sucks, sorry ^^U.
@jjtuckah unfortunatly neither Mrs. Wahlgren nor Sakamotosan can sing the "R" and its a so important alphabetic character in the german language that the language sounds like a dying Animal without it (in my opinion). I cant sing Letlevian trditionals but its always fun to try it. for enough money i would even sing it for a anime^^
Weltkrieg komponierte... (Quelle: Hellsing Ultimate OVA IV)
Yes, like how they used Preussens Gloria and almost all other marches that existed in germany back then. That still doesn't make it a Nazi march. It was a "march used by the nazis", but that doesn't make it a "nazi march"
its easier than it seems^^ and the german dub is 100 percent correct in this part btw its "Ist unser, und unser der Sieg! Unser der Sieg! Unser der Sieg!" without the und's^^
Because the english voice has a typical english/american accent. a german can hear it, because the accent of speaking a "r" and the letter after it sounds a little bit wrong. but its not bad. it's a normal english accent ;)
so i think you can hear a normal german tourist on the kind he tries to speak english, too ;D
japanese is the best version in my opinion, compared to the others it sounds like it has better pronunciation. Weird.

GDuffner 2 years ago 3
only the german version can be the best, because the german is the right language. But i think the other both version are good, too.
Deidara823 2 years ago 3
i kinda like the japanese version because it has tht echoe in her voice when she sings which makes nice. but i like the english version too cause it's loud and clear
GuillotinexGore 2 years ago
I think the japanese version is the best, though the voice doesn't match her face as well as the english version does.
07flaugh 2 years ago
German voice is boring, japanese voice is too soft.
I love the english version, not only does she have a more powerful voice (especially when she sings the last bit), but she sounds much more like she's actually enjoying the singing rather than just performing (which fits the character perfectly). I normally avoid dubs like the plague, but on this one the english voice wins hands down.
kaeBR 2 years ago
@kaeBR
Only for the song. When the twop people are talking, the German dub is the most accurate, they would be speaking German, afterall.
Never the less, the english dub fits the series the best, because they normally would only be speaking English and German, afterall.

the english version sounds like the singer its a dutch...
but maybe a common problem that the english can´t even speak right the AEOU and ÄÜ´s right

Honestly, I prefer the japanese version, specially because the seiyuu (voice actor) Maaya Sakamoto have more experiencie in opera... The german actor voice sucks, sorry ^^U.

@RokubungiMX i kind of prefer the english version though.

she's got italian and german accent in english,I think it sounds very good, for me it's the best version.

LordAlucard91 2 years ago 2
the japanese woman has the worst accent (no surprise there) but she also has the best sounding voice by far. the other two simply dont sound good.
jjtuckah 2 years ago 20
@jjtuckah Actually Maaya Sakamoto is a singer as well to begin with so that might be a factor why she has the better sounding voice^^
I prefer Kari Wahlgren cuz it has much power in it and that matches the video the most with all those explosions^^
Addy1903 1 year ago
@jjtuckah agree totally :D
EvilVikingisDaniel 1 year ago
@jjtuckah unfortunatly neither Mrs. Wahlgren nor Sakamotosan can sing the "R" and its a so important alphabetic character in the german language that the language sounds like a dying Animal without it (in my opinion). I cant sing Letlevian trditionals but its always fun to try it. for enough money i would even sing it for a anime^^
apokalReiter666 1 year ago
well the German voice is not as good as others.... but for me as a german the accent of the other dubs are raping my ears

If I were to rank it I'd say
German (natrually)
English
Japanese
Beastofenvy 2 years ago

i have no idea what this says but it looks so cool. FALCON PUNCH!
omegablue22 2 years ago 2
I like the german version, because it sounds best^^
I prefer "O diese Sonne", because the "Engeland-Lied" is a german Nazi -March-song...
The full version of "O diese Sonne" is wonderful. Carl Maria von Weber was one of the greatest pioniers of operas... Sure ;-)
Contactjuggler92 2 years ago
Giliasboon 2 years ago 2
Weltkrieg komponierte... (Quelle: Hellsing Ultimate OVA IV)
Contactjuggler92 2 years ago 2
Eh, no? Engeland-lied was written during WW1, long before the nazis came to power in Germany. Quit accusing it of being something it isn't.
yannos1000 2 years ago 3
You´re partly right. The original was written in the first worldwar. The nazis change it to a nazi-marchsong...
Contactjuggler92 2 years ago
Yes, like how they used Preussens Gloria and almost all other marches that existed in germany back then. That still doesn't make it a Nazi march. It was a "march used by the nazis", but that doesn't make it a "nazi march"

Jeez English version really suck. Even jp has less accent (and that's VERY hard for japanese seiyuu) My ears are bleeding x_X
It seems that the singer not only haven't tried to make it good, but never actualy heard German at all.
I've learned it only for two years and think i can do better. That "r" is killing, really...

well i still think that the last (the german dub) is the best version, it sounds great

TheWitchHunterGuy 2 years ago
None of them really do it justice, it is hard for anyones tongue to get the
"Ist unser, und unser der Sieg! und unser der Sieg! und unser der Sieg!"
Part correct, you have to move so fast to get your tongue around to not butcher the words horribly, even the german couldn't manage it.
BayushiEisaku 2 years ago 4
Agh, that last line is a nightmare to sing! Stupid rests in the middle of the triplets...
lukianosbecker 2 years ago 3
its easier than it seems^^ and the german dub is 100 percent correct in this part btw its "Ist unser, und unser der Sieg! Unser der Sieg! Unser der Sieg!" without the und's^^
DrunkenM0nkey87 2 years ago
Actually, its supposed to be incorrect with the "und"s. Listen to the original opera, they have it.
English seems to have had the greatest attempt to make it identical to the actual song.

English sounds the best here.
In German, she sounds a little breathy, and though she probably prounounced everything correctly, it sounds inexperienced. Japanese is.... eh.
Rip's English voice is definitely the most powerful here.
NyteSama 2 years ago
sorry, but i don't think so.
Because the english voice has a typical english/american accent. a german can hear it, because the accent of speaking a "r" and the letter after it sounds a little bit wrong. but its not bad. it's a normal english accent ;)
so i think you can hear a normal german tourist on the kind he tries to speak english, too ;D
so i say all 3 versions are same good
