If I;m just beginning with ubuntu, would it be better to run it as it's own separate operating system, in terms of speed and performance and so on, or is it ok to run it as if it's a file on windows7 ??? Anyone can answer
FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK MY SPEAKERS ARE OUT WHICH MEAN I CANT FKING HEAR WAHT HES SAYINGSSS FUCK!!!
This is not really very helpful to me. You've already got a blank partition waiting for you to format it. What I have is a fresh-from-Fedex Win7 laptop. What I want to know is exactly what you skip: what pitfalls are there to resizing the NTFS partition? Specifically, what crap does Win7 write at the end of its original partition (system restore, disk info, whatnot) that I'd be destroying when I create the Ext4 partition? And does it matter?
@CulturalMyths what kind of software do u want to run? if u are running software that needs libraries from windows well just stick with it, and linux will run on any netbook, dont know why is not running on urs, also there is a reason companies use it for servers, cuz its awesome, also FUCK U
Why didn't you choose the option "Install them side by side, choosing between them each startup"? Wouldn't that be easier? Why is it better to install them the more advanced way?
I'm wondering for educational purposes, I want to know what's better by doing this.
i recently dual booted lunix ubuntu and windows 7 on my pc but for ubuntu it never asked for a user name and password and now i can't login at all into ubuntu what should i do?
I have a question, why did you used Ext4 (can it be restored to a NTFS?) and what the mount point means.. I want to install ubuntu 10.04 on a partition of my HDD with dual boot (running w7)
@juankrlox Simply. NTFS is for Windows and Ext4 is LINUX. If you want to install a Linux in a NTFS partition, you should use wubi. But wub will install ubuntu in the top of your Windows 7. You will have a linux inside your windows and not a dual boot.
Thanks alot for this great video. I have Ubuntu 10.04 and this helped me with the partitioning part of the dual boot install. I am new to Linux programs but I am learning to be more efficient in repairs and other urgent situation by going outside of windows. The music is relaxing to me thanks again for this priceless video.
Windows 7 is the most useful operating system i've truly ever before used. My spouse and i downloaded it free via Windows7FreeDLXcom (replace X with . ) and have not had any troubles!
so i just got windows 7 (thank you pirates) and i installed it on anther partition and it worked fine unders vistas boot manager tho.... so when i deleted vista it was not in grub any more O_o i fixed windows 7 boot mgr and it worked fine then when i reinstalled grub ........ all i saw was windwos vistas old boot loader with no windows 7 :"( help?
@Descent82 turns out that wazint the problem lol i had to go into menu.lst to fix the problem and i renamed it from vista to 7 so that fixed that as well :P
Btw.. i received today in my mail the new Ubuntu 9.10 and i'm gonna install it on my both laptops in dual boot mode with windows 7. I've seen some videos about the dual boot install but i'll be delighted if u upload a video showing the procedures to install ubuntu 9.10 dual boot with windows vista and 7. Thanks ;)
just use wubi to install ubuntu in ur computer so u don't mess up anything. install in a partition that is not C: and everything will be fine from there. Good Luck
I gotta admit that i'm new to pcs and linux as well, i've used mac during all my childhood, unfortunately i had to buy pc bc my former school cpu compatibility problems. I'll try to install Ubuntu and i hope that it'll be worth it.
Btw.. i'm using a 3g modem and i was wondering if ubuntu is gonna recognize it (compatible) when i'll insert it and run the .exe file!!
dude 1 question...i ahve 3 partitions( c:windows xp d: windows 7 and on e: i want to install ubuntu 9.10 usb install)any ideea if it will screw my dual boot ??
no sda2 was unallocated space in windows 7 so i use it to install Ubuntu. Ubuntu name like that. for example in windows u have C, D, F etc... but in ubuntu u have sda1, sda2, sda3 etc ;)
thanks man...i actually figured it out myself. i had left unallocated space and i let grub do the rest (installing in the free space)...now i have my shiny dual boot.

@martinzopetazo the fact that you think it runs on all netbooks, is reason alone why you are wrong.
It does NOT run on a hp mini.

@RonaLz4 with Wubi installer u can install Ubuntu inside Windows 7 or vista,

can find it under grub * and vistas boot loader still in grub*
help?
ajboomboom5 2 years ago
I'm a bit late, I know. But ajboomboom5, you don't have to worry..."Vista Bootloader" is Windows 7 in GRUB. :)
Just choose that and you can boot into 7.
I read that since Windows 7 is relatively new for Ubuntu, it still lists it as "Vista Bootloader" in GRUB.

u can use wubi to dual boot it s alot easier and u don't have to partition anything
Ext 4 is just a file system like NTFS in windows
google will be ur friend for the first month after installing ubuntu GOOD LUCK
