  • You look good doctor

  • here in australia skin cancer caused by the sun is a real problem. yes sunlight causes cancer. everytime you sunbathe you increase your chances of getting melanoma. just because sunlight is natural doesn't mean that overexposure isn't harmfull. is the good doctor getting kickbacks from taning bed manufacturers?

  • THANK YOU! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

It's about time medical professionals start exposing these sun-scare studies for what they really are, money making cash cows for the cosmetic companies selling SPF's. UV is essential to life on Earth, it grows our food, lights everything up, and causes our bodies to produce a critical Vitamin to human health (Vitamin D). Our bodies have evolved to make use of this wonderful life giving ray. So enjoy the summer and enjoy the sun!

    Bravo Doctor, bravo.

  • Your an awsome doctor. Raw milk, All other Intakes, And vitamin d by UV. This doctor is the real deal. I have followed this DOCS diet and I feel like I am 16 years old, Not to mention I get hit on by the same age group and I am 32. I feel great look like a porno star and its all cause of this doctors recommendations.

  • I love how the government demonizes tanning beds like they are the #1 cause of cancer in America, yet the full-body scanners in airports which can take high-resolution photos of peoples' skin when they are clothed, are passed off as an "extra safety precaution" :D

  • @Controvox AMEN.

  • So... Looking normal isn't good now?!

  • @sincityfire If we were "normal", we would be getting sunlight all day, since there would be no such thing as the indoors. Our bodies are not designed to be inside dark/artificially lit rooms during the daytime. I am not against establishment, but what I am saying is that tan skin is really what I consider its "normal" color.

  • @Controvox YESSS!!

  • @Controvox That's funny, never seen a model with a tan before. They all have fair skin. I think that is normal.

  • are tanning lotions bad for you too?

  • @nicksy0utube

Actually, most any cosmetic products & the like you buy off the usual store shelves are very harmful. As stated in the video, anything applied to your skin is absorbed into your body. If your seriously interested, grab a couple of your cosmetic products and go down the ingredients list researching the names and their known effects. Many products generally use a lot of the same chemicals. Very many being known carcinogens. This knowledge will certainly make you question the FDA.

  • Maybe you could check how many people die from skin cancer in Australia. Look back at newsreels from the 40's and 50's everyone wore hats.

  • Holy sh*t, research the Marshall Protocol and published studies and youtube videos by Trevor Marshall.

A completely alternative hypothesis of vitamin D.

Vitamin D is a hormone and the basic theory is that it reduces inflammation and dampens down the immune system, which makes people feel better fast, but it prevents the body from healing itself!

  • @Friend2Humanity

the risk of skin cancer outweighs the risk of vitamin D deficiency. How many people out there do you know with rickets compared to melanomas?

  • Hey whats up! I loved your channel!

Its cool. Check out mine! Stay in touch. Hope you got my friend request! Maybe you can sub thanks This is for everybody that see this

  • He's not giving any data. He's just "hear saying it". Vitamin D is not the issue. Melanoma is the issue. The rates of melanoma have risen in the group that used to be least affected (women; because they used to be indoors taking care of the kids in farming communities and their men were outside plowing the fields and now they are being exposed via sun bathing and using tanning beds)

He needs to list the sources. He says "you can look for the data".

  • If your skin is not used to sunlight (or tanning beds) start with only 1-2 minutes until the skin gets a tone, then increase slowly over weeks..

It's the hurrying it that is dangerous.

1-2 minutes seems like ridiculously little, but it's safe, and it's for the first week or two.

  • UVA is what causes cancer, too much is not good even if there is some vitamin D promoting UVB. You need special tanning beds that have the correct ratio of UVA to UVB or you WILL damage the skin and your health.

Type in google; Weston Price the Miracle of Vitamin D...and read that :)

  • If you are not out in the sun much during the days on the week is it ok to go to tanning bed 2 or three times a week for like 12 - 15 minutes time or is there a big chance that you will get cancer then?

  • ..Thumbs down for my comment, lol. All of what I said is facts from info I've read and watched of Dr. Mercolas. Watch his 1 hour video on sun and vitamin D and read his articles. And Dr. Mercola has since brought out his special tanning beds range with a company, some don't even contain ANY UVA rays, too much UVA does damage health and skin - it's UVB you want.

  • Tanning bed usually give off too little UVB (the vitamin D rays) but too much UVA. This is a big problem and concern whatever ballast is used. I love Mercola's info. I'm just unsure on this aspect, can anybody help me???

  • All tanning beds have a mix of both UVB and UVA, typically a 3-5% B to A ratio.

Even the higher level beds, known for the 'browning rays' still have enough UVB to promote vitamin D production in every session.

  • ...you don't want too much UVA. The ratio of UVA to UVB does matter. This is why midday sun is the best; because it has more UVB than in the morning and late afternoons rays - you want that UVB and enough of it and not too much UVA!

  • just go in the sun, save yourself some money and you wont die

  • There isn't sufficient sun in a lot of places, like where I live in the UK. Even when you think there is there can lots of deep penetrating UVA but not the vitamin D producing UVB. Midday hours are best; 12-2pm, and remember you can't shower using soap as it takes 24-48 hours for the vitamin D to form, you'd be washing it off your skin.

  • @1RobertD are you dark skinned?

because people from the UK are mostly type 1 skin types, the lightest type of skin.

Unless you have dark skin and are living in the UK you have no risk of deficiency.

5 to ten minutes in low sunlight is all type skin 1 people need to avoid deficiency of vitamin D.

  • Preach it Brother!

  • Amazing and GREAT!! Finally a Smart Doctor how refreshing!!

  • That bit about electromagnetic fields (EMF) from tanning bed ballasts being unhealthy is pure hokum. The whole myth got started by Robert P. Liburdy, formerly of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, who faked research data. When other researchers couldn't replicate his results, it was revealed that he "dry-labbed" it, i.e, made up data to support his premise that low level power line EMF was harmful. Dr. Mercola should give up on this stuff before he gets discredited.

  • Dr. Mercola the best!

  • WOW! Somone using their brain!

  • Dr. Mercola is a national asset. It's very important that we have independent studies and intelligent people making these kinds of assessments for all of us. Thank you Dr. Mercola.

  • Oh please. Your skin is so thin and wrinkled. I wouldn't want any skincare advice from you. Unless you are like 70 or something then you actually look great.

  • Wow, are you ever mean and worthless.

  • This is just brilliant information... :-)

  • I love this video! You're becoming more active and humerous, qualities that have been missing in your latest videos. I like your older videos; you are very funny, and I love your sense of humor. Keep us updated Dr. Mercola!

  • Brilliant. Haven't been dissapointed by one of your videos.

    Thank you Dr. M

  • finally some common sense on the suntan hysteria

  • Comment removed

  • Its not about money for them, its about control, and YOU depending on THEM.

  • Thanks to you I know sun exposure is healthy so long as you don't burn. Also not to use soap for at least 24 hours on sun exposed skin as it prevents vitamin d3 absorption.

  • Dr mercola FTW

  • Come on, Mercola. This is not some coincidence. The WHO would make the sun illegal if they could. This is because sunlight is healthy and the WHO doesn't want that - after all, they have a global depopulation agenda to keep. Please read some of their documents where they openly write about culling the worlds ppulation by as much as 80-90%. Just look at Codex Alimentarius. This isn't just about money because once you make too much money, the next thing you want it pure power.

  • Dr. Mercola... How should we dose ourselves with Vitamin D? I heard an interview with Dr. Rima Laibow where she stated that she personally takes 10000IU of Vitamin D, with benefits of prevention of Arthritis. Does this seem extreme, would this much harm you? I also heard many cancers are due to a lack of selenium, is there something that we should be ingesting that contains much of this, are there tests to check our levels, or are there selenium pills we can supplement ourselves with? Great Vid.

  • just one brazil nut contains more than the RDA of selenium

  • Thank-you for the information.

  • Life extensions foundation recomends

2,000-5,000 IU on a daily basis anything more should be done under care of a Physician due to risk of hypercalcemia or kidney toxicity. It is ok to take 5,000-10,000 for short periods of time less than 30 days to boost the immune system and treat certain illnesses.

  • This is helpful... I have been taking between 2 and 6 1000IU tablets daily, I also have been using Isagenix to cleanse myself with many noticeable health improvements. In the last 6 months I have been trying to educate myself as much as possible as to why I have been so sick the last 10 years or so, and have come to the conclusion that ignorance regarding my health was harming me. In the last 3 months I have lost 30lbs, rid myself of pain due to arthritis, and cleared my skin of acne.

  • when you sit in the sun, its possible for your body to make 20,000 iu !!!!! pills just are not worth it with VD

  • The sun is not practical for most people for many reasons weather is number 1 you cannot even go ouside in most parts of the country only about 4-5 months out of the year is possible for most people , also some people are conservative when outside and many people do not have room for nor can they afford a tanning bed.

Sun is best when you can get it but pills are what most people must use for practical reasons.

  • You don't need direct sunlight, you get UV even if it's somewhat cloudy, especially at elevated places like mountains or highlands.

  • heh you look young.

  • Thank you so much Dr.Mercola, useful and interesting information as always!

  • I have your vitamin D tanning bulbs. That study actually scared me! Thank you for setting the record straight.

  • Why would they want to mislead us?

  • The WHO is corrupted and owned by global elites.
