  • LOL

  • But the sound quality is nice

  • Is this the worst quality video on youtube?

  • The End is Just Amazing, you gotta listen closely.

  • It's YouTube safety policy kicking in

thats why the graphics are so bad..

because, according to the census of life, Dinosaur Jr. will indeed melt your face off.

  • why did the crowd laugh when he said post punk power pop trio?!

  • dude its so weird to see him with a tele... and no murph... and why are there 2 guitars

  • @AndyCaryMusic aren't there 2 guitars on the record? and yeah, letterman's guitarist was paid to show up J

  • @g0ldbuG nah i mean the bassist is playing guitar instead of bass i think..

  • the audio cut out at 2:57 for me...

  • was this filmed with a pubic hair???

  • letterman looks like a feral ghoul

  • kick ass

  • The Solo at 3:18 on was amazing!!!!!!

  • @fruit017 yeah it was an awesome solo!!!

  • No bass?! Not like I can tell with 4 pixels per frame.

  • WTF! Does Letterman have a perm? :P

  • This was the very first compact disk I ever bought. Before that I only bought cassettes.

  • I have a terrible taste in music. Just my personal opinion.

  • quality is amazing

    almost like 3D

  • @canibaldance

It's like 3D without wearing the 3D glasses.

  • who is playing bass? or is that a tiny tele bass??

  • @milesofsmiles2 Mike Johnson, Lou's second Replacement.

  • @zicon6 i think mike is playing guitar, maybe the letterman bassist is playing. who was lou's original replacement?

  • @milesofsmiles2 Van Conner but, only for touring

  • @zicon6 - and after that they had the guys from Gumball tour with them.

  • music is purely subjective. Nobody will ever tell you they have a bad taste in music

  • music is purly subjective. Nobady will ever tell you they have a bad taste in music

  • epic indie rwack

  • epic indie rwack

  • on my pc the sound cuts out at 2:57

  • Why do people feel the need to constantly compare bands? I love blink-182, but can appreciate this as well, I like Dinorsaur Jr. I also hate the majority of blink fans are fucking 13 year olds making an argument on the internet and have no perspective on music apart from the mainstream.

  • ahhhhhh why did the video go quiet at the best part?!

Also Blink 182 good band but too overrated. Dinosaur Jr. on the other hand is an amazing band that is soooo underrated.

  • @StraightPunkEdge93 im not personly a fan of blink 182 but im not gonna fight over who's better

  • the quality of this video is like realplayer late 90s quality. great music though!

  • @Hexpane you make a good point, im curious as to how Coldplay gave sold out though?

  • Comment removed

  • @Dezpin234 You take what you can get, I guess.

  • I can't believe the arguments on these videos.... Dino is one of the most original sounds period. No one can rip the Dino sound. Nirvana was also great. Blink 182 is okay but I have always felt that they were a nofx rip off. Also you can't sell out if you buy in!

  • it obviously is not 3D, but I'm guessing this is blu-ray. right

  • just had an argument with my friend who's better dino or nirvana come on really?

  • Dino jr and Blink 182 are both awesome in different ways, now all of you arguing assholes, shut up.

  • @BCT3496 LOL!

  • lol at letterman sayin dino is post-punk. dino ain't no post-punk, it's some bad ass rock n' roll.

  • is this HD ?

  • Comment removed

  • @MooseAtYou Yeah. In Yemen.

  • @MooseAtYou lol ya man can't you tell? This is better than just regular HD though, the clarity and crispness, oh my goodness!

  • @markuscreek24 you ruined the joke.

  • @frenzy25 you made it funny again

  • Comment removed

  • Iggy Pop has the most sensible take on selling out. He said he'd been willing to sell out for years, but no one was buying. Discussions about selling out are the domain of prepubescent jag offs and trust fund babies, all of whom can go lick Iggy's salty sac.

  • 15 people missed the like button

  • @Hexpane well i don't think selling out has anything to do with making money. i think it's more about compromising your artistic vision because you hope you can make money

  • I agree with Eric21228

  • all teles should be that color...

  • blink 182 where just another nofx rip off !!!dino are truly original.

  • blink 182????? they are fucking gay!!!!!!

  • great album

  • Granted, this wasn't the original lineup, but it's an incredibly enjoyable pop song that features J. Mascis and a video in which Letterman says "Post-punk." It's also one of at least three times Dinosaur Jr have played Letterman over a span of 16 years.

  • the other two part of DINO????

    dont deserve exposure !!!!!

    only macis I think

  • Is the moral of this song some kind of Eastern spiritual wisdom? Namely by heroically and sympathetically transcending pain and problems of others by taking them on yourself?

  • seriously yo cuz i think j's into hinduism. check out the never bought it video with the hindu symbolism in plain view.

  • why?

  • cuz barlow made dinosaur great

  • no reason to hate johnson.

  • Mike Johnson isn't just playing the bass and singing on this for Dinosaur Jr. The song sounds exactly like Mike Johnson's song "Turn Around" from his days in Eugene, Oregon with Snakepit. (1987)

  • Anytime you want to upload those tracks off From Vegas to Memphis onto the Youtube, we're ready.

  • Will have to have Mike Johnson's permission to do that first, but willing and able. You must have Eugene roots!

  • Who do you think told me to contact you?

  • @anniearonburg

    Look in your youtube incoming mail! Great to hear from you anniearonburg, why didn't you say who you were in the first place? ( ;

  • What!? No Jazzmaster!?

  • Yeah it's a green telecaster instead. I was surprised too.

  • what is that at 3:17 looks like an entirely different band

  • ah i was right. its the letterman show's band..

  • pauls band as backup

  • Comment removed

  • k..n e ways i knew it wasnt dinojr. regardless.. great song.

  • sic ending solo

  • hells yeah

  • j for prez!

  • ive noticed something how come theres no studio versions of this song?

  • there´s also a cool official video for it, but I guess they just removed it for some meaningless reasons

  • i think it's down to that whole youtube-video only tv thing

  • there is.....

  • umm there is...its the first track on without a sound

  • because youtube isn't tied in with reprise records. they don't "own" the rights to the song.

  • There is. It's an EP.

  • huh, watts (haha) happens around 3 minutes and 9 seconds?

  • man mascis isn´t playing a jazzmaster! thats unusual. plus nirvana rules. dino rules to.

  • dino j is fuckin sweet, lol some guy actually had an argument with me over who was more influential, dino jr or blink 182 haha.

  • uhh which young punk bands are those ?ahah i would argue that dino jr is more influential because they influenced bands that became more popular than them. as opposed to being popular and influencing bands that noone knows about. there is a large difference between popularity and being influencial.

  • i don't want to get in an argument with you because i know dinosaur jr. is better. I'm just saying that most of today's youth are probably open to mainstreem music such as blink-182. And they want to start there wannabe punk bands. I'm not saying dinosaur jr. is not influential. They've influenced kurt kobain. At my school There's this band who is a blink 182 type band. Other than that i don't know who else is influenced by blink. i don't even like blink.

  • yeah lol. i was just alittle confused by your statement.

  • @jcs1234jcs I'd say Blink 182 are more influential

  • @LiamBamBam hahahaha all blink 182 did was infuence fallout boy and all time low and every other loser pop boy band with guitars

  • @tiddlywinks98712 Which is a lot of people. Dinosaur Jr are awesome but Blink 182 have influenced a lot of bands, mostly pop-punk/pop-rock bands but a lot of different genres too. I don't know a single person who knows who Dinosaur Jr are, except some people recall this one as its on Guitar Hero.

  • @LiamBamBam haha! omg, well you are a perfect example of the fucked up insdustry of rock music...u say that because the people in your little social bubble havent heard of one of the biggest rock bands of all time, and they listen to the lame pop punk genre, that blink 182 have influenced more people??, they have influenced SHIT bands...ie fallout boy, all time low etc...ask your mates if they've heard of Nirvana??, Alice in Chains or maybe Sonic Youth? that'll be the true test of Ignorance

  • @tiddlywinks98712 Lol... youre a dick, a lot of my friends are into everything from Jimi Hendrix to those black metal bands. None of my friends except my girlfriend's guitarist likes pop punk at all. And Nirvana sucked except for Nevermind and one or two songs off of each of the other albums in my opinion

  • @LiamBamBam haha liking black metal and dissing Nirvana...ur the dick mate

  • @tiddlywinks98712 I dont like black metal. I listen to Kill Hannah, The Cure, Sonic Youth, HIM, My Bloody Valentine, Smashing Pumpkins and ofc ... Dinosaur Jr

  • @LiamBamBam blink 180-who? one of the worst bands of all time! i dunno if it gets much worse than that and on top of all that they're just a 10th rate knock off of green day and they pretty much suck too. i would'nt put it past you that yr probly a good charlotte fan too

  • @LiamBamBam dino j and blink182 are 2 very different bands despite what people say... blink182 sucks and if anything... dino j has influenced them, not the other way around

  • @MrBigfatturd i never said blink 182 influenced dino jr. i said blink 182 has influenced more people than dino jr

  • @LiamBamBam All of this grunge/pop-punk stuff originated with an 80s Minnesota band called Husker Du. Check them out when you have time.

  • @LiamBamBam pop punk is terrible.

  • @jcs1234jcs lol that's just sad.

  • @jcs1234jcs Blink 182 obviously...

  • @jcs1234jcs Dinosaur Jr. wins everytime

  • @jcs1234jcs

Seriously? That person must have been about 16. Glad you set them straight

  • @jcs1234jcs who won the argument?

  • This performance never sat right with me. Having Mike Johnson on guitar, then another bass player off stage to get the "studio sound". It never felt like the Dinosaur Jr. I know and love.

  • LOVE Dinosaur Jr. J Mascis is one of my favorite 3 guitarists ever to exist. Jimi Hendrix, J Mascis and John Frusciante. The Holy Trinity of J's.

  • Wow there's a lot of anger an hate on the comments for a Dino video. I thought people who were in the Dino groove were relaxed =0'

  • @Jept yeah man, people need to chill and listen to more Dino Jr. obviously

  • Comment removed

  • Save for lbpr1, you are all children that never knew Dinosaur. midasxxx, you are mistaking the Pixies for Dinosaur, get a grip dude! For the rest of you, music is not sports. It's about making art. Yes, Steve Vai knows all of his scales, but he sucks as an artist. J plays like a typhoon. Joe satriani plays like a well thought out, boring, but technically correct morning breeze. Stick to the Killers and Fall-out boy you bunch of pussy boys!

  • rollcall

I'm 42. So two years younger than J. One year younger than Lou. Can't say re: Murph, because he wasn't actually born. He always was since the beginning of time. So I'm not a "child."

Having said that totally agree: the fact that Vai plays very, very fast is irrelevant. Songs are what counts. Are the songs good or not.

    Vai: No

    Jr.: Yep

And Mascis has great phrasing. LIke Dave Gilmour on amphetamines.

Also, midasxxx forgot to mention "Giant." From when Lou played in drag.

  • Sorry--"Gigantic."

Which was about me. But I won't say why, since there might be children on the board. In fact, it's pretty likely.

  • Sorry, KonradAdenauer. I took the Pixies comment out of contex and blew up. I should not have addressed the child comment to "all of you." Obviously, we are on the same page.

Rock on Dinosaur and Pixies. I hope you accept my apoligy.

  • all of you pretentious fucks and snobs that cry sellout here's a couple of hints:rent money, food, utilities, family, health plan.artistic integrity is all fine and dandy.you know what's even better?BEING ABLE TO PAY YOUR RENT AND SUPPORT YOUR FAMILY.if you don't know that by now you're probably 16 and living with mommy and daddy.

  • lbpr1

My definition of "alt rocker who considers success a sellout": Alt rocker who has never had success.

  • theyre not sellouts. i dont think dinosaur jr has any control over this song being in rock band. i think thats up to reprise records, who owns the song.

and maybe theyre fans of the game, and think "well since we have fun playing the game, i dont mind them wanting to put our own song in there"

  • my friends think i heard of dinosaur jr from guitar hero. no i actually heard henry rollins talking about them so please, don't assume.

  • um, mascis? a god? maybe... but I've heard many better guitarists, and if anyone should argue me, be my guest

  • I am not from the Guitar Hero generation, I listened to Dino Jr when I was in highschool. I was hanging out with my 10 year old nephew and he was playing that game and said 'I love this song, these guys are great.' It shocked me when this song came on. This is a good thing, it is not selling out, it is opening up good music to kids who probably wouldn't get exposed to it otherwise. Plus the band gets some extra deserved cash.

  • I saw them at UMASS in 91, and million times since then. I played pool with J at The Bottleneck in Lawrence, KS. He's a good guy.

  • nerds get all their songs\bands off of guitar hero and rock band, yodellikeamonster. So why dont you shut up and stop being such a dork?

  • I've been into Dinosaur Jr. for years, and I don't see the problem with getting into them through guitar hero. I don't play it personally, and was rather sad when Dinosaur Jr. sold out to it I suppose, but at least these guys recognize good music.

  • i don't like guitar hero either, but was playing it at a friend's house n found this song...I'd "sell out" too man, i need some fucking money!! Also its introducing their music to a new generation and all...Maybe not all the kids will listen to rap, or shitty pop.

  • People who blindly knock guitar hero make generalizations about people.

  • na, I just hate the game and wish people would pick up real guitars...maybe if more people expressed their creativity in that way music would be better right now...maybe

  • The game hasn't hurt the business. It sucked long before the game was ever thought of. Corporate greed is probably the bigger culprit.

  • guitar hero is for the less fortunate, those who don't have ears or lives

  • what? what the fuck does that mean?!

  • Wait. I'm a loser with no life, and I don't play GH.

What should I do about this.

Besides, you are insulting Eric Cartman. And THIS I CANNOT accept!

  • go on and complain about me all you want, I don't care.

I just don't see the problem in getting music interest from Guitar Hero/Rock Band. It's good music, isn't it? I surely never would have known about Dinosaur Jr. if it hadn't been for Guitar Hero, to be honest. But now that I have, I've gotten into their stuff a bit more. Besides, the point of watching this is for you to spam about how much you hate the game. I mean a David Letterman performance? Come on ppl, seriously :P

  • I feel the same way man. i would never have found dino jr which would suck because my favorite song of like all time is their cover of just like heaven, RB also got me into alice in chains, interpol and sonic youth

  • Since you said sonic youth I'm not going tot say anything.

  • then i feel nothing....

  • a little off track, this video is like trying to watch a scrambled porno channel

  • First real band I started listening to. I respect this band so much because it opened my ears for a more diverse music taste. Plus the best thing about them is that they are so easy to get into

  • Right because Dylan was an awesome singer. It is just because true rock musicianship is dead to most of the people spoon fed music these days.

  • I hate you so much right now.

  • Comment removed

  • Lol, seeing that you have guitar hero music all over your favorites, I really doubt your ability to critique music very well.

  • theres video of jay playing david cross in guitar hero. jay was pretty good

  • to be fair to him though... none of those songs are actually in a guitar hero game. they're all custom songs.

  • honestly your comment is useless..; as a musician you'll never come close to Dinosaur Jr and you don't know what you're talkin' about

  • "I heard this song on GHWT" aka you must look to a video game for musical taste aside from your usual favorites you see on MTV

  • I can't understand the point you're trying to make here.

  • I love how Eric1228 owns this fag in the first reply. and ya dude if ure one of those people who gets all ure music from video games then u have no reason to comment on this video.

  • Comment removed

  • god i love this solo

  • Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth are two of the best alternative rock bands.

  • Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, and the Pixies: The Holy Triumvirate of Alternative rock.

  • So True. Too bad the three never toured together

  • hey, can you recommend me songs from the pixies?

  • Where Is My Mind

    Allison

    Wave of Mutilation

Those are some good starter songs.

  • Doolittle as an album is a good place to start

  • Surfer Rosa too

  • i like

    Hey

    Gouge away

Where is my mind (of course)

    Debaser

    Tame

ofcourse almost all their song are awesome. but these are some personal favourites. i think i got all their albums, not really sure

  • no Husker Du? I'd have to put them over Dino Jr on this list (and I like them more than Pixies or Sonic Youth)

  • Yeah, but a.) I'm not willing to take those 3 bands out, and b.) Triumvirates are much cooler than... Quadvirates? Quadratuses? Whatever.

You're right, though, Husker Du belongs on the list. And Minutemen. And Meat Puppets... maybe even the Wipers and Neutral Milk Hotel. I don't know, it's just my opinion.

  • definitely, but to stick with this trio the development of HD and Deep Wound/Dinosaur Jr are remarkably similar:

79: Grant and Bob meet form Husker Du

81: decide to be fastest band in the world

82: get bored with that, start experimenting

83: arrive at loud noisy less fast intense cathartic emotionally dark music

82: lou and j meet form deep wound

83: release fastest record at that time

84: Deep Wound dissolves, Dino Jr emerges, loud, noisy, dark, etc above

    simplification but not w/o truth

  • dont forget REM!

  • I can't forget R.E.M.! They're my fav band! How did I forget them!? [smacks forehead]
