  • What the fuck is that idiot doing in the middle of a race course?

  • Internatational collision regs state that all Vessels should avoid collision at all cost. Even though the ferry had right of way, it should have taken evasive action.

  • @imfromaus if you have ever been to sydney you will see and realize the size and power of those ferries. they take a lot of time and distance to change direction and stop..

  • why didnt he just power up the kite and shoot out of there?

  • The skiff could have croosed the ferry but the skipper lost his nerve.

The ferry had right of way.

There was really nothing he ferry skipper could do but hope the skiff sailors didn't drown.

  • stupid americans

  • they had right of way, sailboats always have right of way over power.

  • Not when state law says ferry's have right of way over everything, which is why the ferry didn't give way

  • lol owned. the "orange diamond" at the top of the ferry means they have ultimate right of way

  • yeh sorry sailingdude but your wrong, ferries have right of way over everything in sydney harbour, its displayed by their orange diamond

  • hahaha

    you know nothin bro!

    FAILER!

  • your fucking stupid

  • No criminal charges for failing to even attempt an evasive manuver? Justice denied. 5 Star video.

  • asszem átrongyolt rajta:D nesze neked HSZ:D

  • Great Movie Watch m'n promo too

  • The ferry didn't even slow down to see if anyone was trapped by the rigging.

The skipper should have lost his licence.

  • the ferry has right of way on sydney harbour, they display an orange diamond at the forward end of the vessel which is a "priority over sail" (local reg)but the colregs state that both vessel must take avasive action when a collision appears inimate. so they both are at fault

  • what i dont understand is:

They were doing a good twenty knots.

They tried to stop a long way before the ferry hit them.

They could have easily carried on and made it past because they were moving so fast.

  • there is that thing called rule of tonage...

  • I think the Australians just didn't want the Americans to win, so they made the ferry run them over.

  • well as much as i hate to say it..cause i love sailing lol..but ferry had the right of way, it was a comercial ship, its working, thus the power gives way to sail doesn't apply, also its considered a 'big ship' as it's working, carying more than 20 passengersand quite possibly over 50 meters..

guys on the skiff should have done something to avoid this..drop spinaker, gybe, stall out, induce a capsize if need be..captain could have helped avoid this..but he wasnt obligated to

  • Poppycock!!! Thre is no rule of the road in the IRPCS that states sail gives way to commercial. Though there maybe a byelaw in Sydney harbour. The rule of power over sail applies if a vesssel is restricted in it's ability to manouver, which that ferry certainly wasn't. I sail on the River Thames and the ferry's believe they have right of way over anything unless the police / coast guard boats are visible!!!

  • well mate, sorry but, it really is this way, these are the rules mate, i teach em to all my students cause they are the official ones..working ships get right of way, regardless of sail or power

  • I've just read teh second paragraph and exactly the same!!! for goodness sake...

RULE 1 in the International (That means everyone) Rules for the Prevention of Collision at Sea (IRPCS) is....

    Avoid Collision at ALL COST

    OF course he WAS OBLIGED

  • on this howevere you do have a point i'll give you that

  • i only know this because ive personally had a pretty close encounter with a ferry on a light day and our yacht clubs lawyer (who was on the water as well but in a different boat went and yelled at the skipper after

  • ahh shit that suks lol na they cudnt have done anything lol

  • OMG!!!!

    TACK MAN, TAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAC.....

    Nice one.

  • dude they had the spinnaker up, they were heeled over and stuck head to wind , you cant tack in that situation, esp. wiv the spinnaker up!!

  • Hy Dude

It was only a JOKE !

I know that these guys did not tack...pls see my youtube......

  • the ferry should of gybed onto starboard and called water at the mark

  • good call

  • haha Awesome Aussie Skiffs! I have this DVD.

  • do you know where i could get it?

  • well, one thing is for sure, the ferry didn't even try to avoid collision. Sad.

  • That ferry had right of way because it was on a schedule. Besides there was no way the ferry could have manovered away in time

  • Erm, I was kind of under the impression that boats under power have to get the hell out the way ;) Maybe its different in Sydney!

Anyone know what the legal fallout was?

  • power has to give way to sail!

  • actually your wrong, right of way is determined by maneuverability, and in this case the ferry had less

  • Ok, when i was sailing school i was told that power has to give way to sail, but we were not told that its determined by maneuverability. but thanks for enlighting me!

  • it doesnt matter if they are on starboard or not the ferry always has right of way!
