The TA for my English history teacher played this before our exam. The professor got a kick out if it and it helped me with a question about scholasticism. XD
I know it's commonly used in reference to Thomas, but that doesn't make it his proper name, which is what 95% of listeners who don't have knowledge to the contrary would infer from the lyrics.
Ügyes! Tudják mit csinálnak. Annyit jegyeznék csak meg, hogy az elterjedt nézettel ellentétben nem Summa Theologica. Tamás így írta: Summa Theologiae.
And therefore, it would be incorrect to say that "Aquinas" was his name, just as it would be incorrect to say that "the Nazarene" was Jesus' name. Yes, I know I'm nitpicking and I feel kind of bad for critiquing your videos even though they are awesome. :-) But while we are at it, there's also a mistake in the Constantine video because Constantine wasn't baptized yet when he convened the council of Nicaea. But anyway, I really like your videos. Keep up the good work. :-)
@HaecceitasQuidditas you are reading into the lyrics of Constantine - we are simply listing things that he did or happened to him, in no particular order...it could be assumed that if you are studying about him or already know about him you should be aware he was famously baptized on his deathbed- and if introducing this topic, teachers of course would be bringing up this very point...regardless, the timing of his baptism pales in light of what he did to change the empire and aid Christians
Is there any hope that we shall see the Amazing Trio in another video, soon? I know you're going to tell us that we "have no idea how hard it was" for you.... that you "literally had to split yourself in three"... But you got to admit it... the Trio sing and dance wonderfully, and tell great true stories besides! Besides, Mr H does a third the work! ... or is that 3 times the work? Ah, just think how lucky Mr J would be, if he were given the privilege of working with the Trio!
This Venus song had a clip play at some point during the Academy Awards, and I couldn't figure out why I recognized it until I connected the tune to Thomas Aquinas.
the 'lovely trio is not fair to Bambi. I think she has a lot of potential and is being forced into a 'supreme' roll. Bambi deserves the opportunity to be the lead singer and have the other two ladies back her up. She has a lot of untapped abilities. ;)
@yankeefan82079 haha- yep- did you know they are all really me in different wigs or are you jokin' around? Most people like Angelica - the cherry cola-haired one.
@historyteachers I knew it was you. So do I, but picked Bambi because one is smart, one is cool, and one is.... So, no other reason, just being funny. Keep up the great work.
@historyteachers OK, I am going to have to admit that I DID NOT know that they were all you Ms. B.
I know, I am dense as lead, but I thought they were other teachers @ your school.
Two things fooled me. The first is the difference in heights. The second was how well it was choreographed. How did you match up your dance moves so well? Great job.
@Laceykat66 Now the crazy thing is: Even though the Trio, we're told, are all played by Mrs.B... They each seem to have their own personality in the videos. Makes one wonder about the internal make-up of her mind...!! (Let's hope my comment doesn't get taken wrongly!) Until I was specifically told 3 times by Mrs.B, that she acts all the female roles in all these videos, I couldn't believe or figure it out either! She's 1/4 actress, 1/4 singer, 1/4 dancer, 1/4 teacher! EGADS! There's 4 of her!
I was so impressed by your video that I have posted it in the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas blog. Search for Angelicum Newsletter on Google.
This will be a great introduction for our students to Aquinas! He is still "cool" after all these centuries!
Funny detail about Aristoteles and Aquinas: During Aquinas own life Aristoteles where actually banned by the Catholic church, this was due to the source of the texts where from Muslim records. Not that this stopped Aquinas (or many other church thinkers in the period) from reading, using and being inspired by Aristoteles. -Despire the ban.
(I can sadly not reference a source atm. But I can check with my lector next time i'm at the university).
Wrong. Not because the source was "Muslim" (for the great part, it was not, actually, Europe did posess Aristoteles' texts long before Averroes' commentaries reached it), but because it was pagan, and stood against Christian (and Muslim) faith on many points: eternity of the world, denial of free-will, influences from the stars, no immortality of the soul, no providence but fate and random, and whatsoever.
Plato (who firmly proclaimed the immortality of the soul, freedom of man, providence and care from the gods, etc.) was much more acceptable to Christians philosophers, which is mostly the reason why the latters dealt with him, and not with Aristoteles before the XIIth century.
Anyway, the ban on Aristoteles (not on the part of the Church, by the way, but the Sorbonne university and the bishop of Paris) did not prevent scholars to study him - and even agree with his most "pagan" points of view. Well, study him, they did... Thomas wrote the "Summa Contra Gentiles" in order to keep Aristoteles within the boundaries of Christian theology, and to fight these "pagan" commentators (Siger, etc;), precisely.
the historyteachers are so trashy and yet so cool its a trend.... I keep posting one or the other clip to my fb feed just for all my history interested friend to have some smile n fun (75 percent of em are middle ages freaks)
thanks for doing that, makes a lotta ppl smile - and i hope some more learn ;-) (greets from good ole germany - you guys might want to work on your pronounciation (or however you write that9 of those german senences in the other clip (martin luther) XD

Fantastic hilarious introduction to The Great Theologian and Doctor of the Church, big Saint Thomas. An example of another way to learn through pop music! :)

This isn't originally a Bananarama song - the original by Shocking Blue is actually much better. :)

"Aquinas was his name"? No, it wasn't. "Thomas Aquinas" just means "Thomas of Aquino".
