Chrono trigger gameplay was levels above chrono cross. It's system was far more intuitive and fun to access. if you play chrono trigger and then move onto cross, CC is generally a disappointment in terms of gameplay and system.
Wat? The gameplay in CC put CT to SHAME. So much customization in CC that a piddling little game like CT couldn't include. Story was great, gameplay was great, battle system was great, and the music is amazing.
What is a shame is that a sub-par game like Chrono Trigger is in any way linked to this masterpiece. It will forever drag it down.

Chrono Trigger was far from being sub-par when it came out. Even now it stands apart in the way it gives players a sense of timelessness, which coupled with its incredible graphics, storyline, gameplay, and music make it one of the best games ever.
However, that doesn't mean I won't pay homage to Chrono Cross, as it has everything you mentioned. It just feels pointless to compare the two, when both games are so good.
@majicodemejico chrono cross is definitely the game chrono trigger was trying to be, i'm so glad the dream came to a realization at the playstation era and although it's sad there won't be anymore, i can see how they stopped with cross. chrono cross was THE game, chrono trigger was a stepping block to that game.

CT was and is a far superior game. It's storyline actually made sense. It was because of the subpar nature of CC that it was linked to CT to boost sales - their stories are completely separate and they should have never attempted to link them as the link does not make any sense whatsoever.
Uh, check out Chrono Compendium and you'll see, it makes QUITE a lot of sense in many regards. ô.ò Don't see any trouble with the story whatsoever, and the links are quite clear, too.

I'm glad people can appreciate Chrono Cross, but personally, I did not like the gameplay too much. Most characters were lifeless and redundant and the battle system felt really boring and unnecessary. OST and Story are top notch, but the rest didn't cut it for me. :[

I don't think you can say a game has better anything than another if you haven't played the other game. Though of all the games I've played, FF6 is my favorite. (I haven't played Chrono Cross BTW)
Has a very PS1 feel to it. Yea, I know it was a PS1 game, but there are some games that manage to escape the feel of their systems (FF10, but in a bad way). That's about all I can say, I haven't played it yet.
I would LOVE to play this song while I'm out on a cruise someday <:D
