  • sad but this movie does reflect the reality.

  • the poor woman sacrificed the man she loved (murli) for a heartless cruel father and suffered so much because of that and in the movie they kind of try to justify it.I am glad that this kind of cultural pressures are losing their significance, these days

  • Good movie! The ending made me cry! I know Janki was in the wrong but she didnt deserve to die like an outcast. I think her dad was wrong to hold a grudge against his dying daughter. He could have at least forgiven her?? So cold hearted.

  • sri devi is the greatest actress

  • It is interesting to see how the portrayal of women in Hindi movies have changed since the 1980s. In this movie both Janki and Jyoti do not have the power to make life decisions. Neither of them are able to marry the men they want, unless the patriarch consents. Janaki ultimately gets worn down by the sense of guilt society inflicts upon her. Of course there is no excuse for neglecting the infant. But it is interesting to see that the woman who goes against what is "decided" pays in death.
