  • never met stan. he always comes across like a huge prick, but his drum sound was so integral to the heartbreakers. he kills an unusual part on this song.... the whole band is AMAZING.

  • How are they doing this live?

  • That background singer is strait givin it up! Thats whats up!

  • Is one of those back up singers Sheryl Crow?

  • @Jackstraw1000 No. Those are the Rebelettes: Pat Peterson and Carroll Sue Hill.

  • First line on Mike Campbell's resume: "Certified badass"

  • Don't get no better....

  • the moves the horn section have are pretty tits

  • so trippy!

  • 0:00-6:43 phenominal!

  • God damn I wish I was at this concert

  • The people in the crowd are in their 50's and 60's now. Rock & Roll!

  • What a KICK ASS live performance!

    Thanks for that.

  • i liked this song when it origonally came out it sent a strong message and if it was redone as good as the origanal it would still give a strong message

  • Don't come around here no more...

  • Tom is genius. Nothing to add, Except a tour Through the N.W. U.S.

  • ya tear that shit up mike

  • Music doesn't get much better than that.

  • Dave Stewart from the eurythmics and Tom wrote this one.....The original inspiration was a romantic encounter that Stewart had with Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac.[1] On The Howard Stern Show, Dave Stewart explained that the title's phrase was actually uttered by Stevie. She had broken up with Joe Walsh the night before[2], and invited Dave Stewart to her place for a party after an early Eurythmics show in Los Angeles...This is what Stevie said to Joe Walsh the next morning

  • i want that hat

  • whant to see the videoclip, grrrr

  • man that what im talking about that last part was longg and that it should be in the orignal cd.. that was rod way a go .. damn im a big fan of tom petty

  • Is that a sitar they use?

  • @thebayareapimp It's a Coral electric sitar.

  • @thebayareapimp On the record, and sometimes in concert, Mike Campbell plays a Coral electric sitar to get that sound. It looks like he's getting the sound from a Rickenbacker 12-string here.

  • aww the drummer he new or something ? doesnt sound good.. i like the other old guy black guy he was way betterrrr and sound soo smooth .. this one it the drummer and sound terrible damn... i love that songs but not this one check out other live he did in paris live

  • @jglakers18 That's Stan Lynch, he was the first drummer for the Heartbreakers.

  • doesn't get any better than this!

  • @celtica99 I completely agree!! :D

  • Gotta just love Tom Petty.

  • @jhbyer it must be showing the number of people at this particular concert.

  • noah and the whale faked it

  • no it's not a joke, and anyone with a name like

    "sissyboy"....thats a joke right?

  • What? A mere 150, 000 some view hits? This is such a great video. What IS wrong with people? Not you, of course.

  • i love how he messes up when putting on his glasses at the start of the vid..

  • oooohh! i love it!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @maggie54able Yup the same brand. Rickenbacker

  • I swear John Lennon used to have a guitar just like the one Tom is playing here.

  • @AbbeyRoad52 Yup the same brand. Rickenbacker

  • with maybe the exception of Keith Richards, Tom may be the coolest dude in Rock.

  • with the possible exception of Keith Richards, Tom, may be the coolest cat in rock & roll.

  • @MrRedbirdfan10 lmao thats a joke right?

  • @Sissyboy69able You're the joke sissy boy.

  • Pure genius. This is amazing beyond words.

  • So much better live

  • I believe I read this song was a response to the drug dealing he was witnessing outside his apartment. And it also includes imagery a recovering addict would feel.

I may have some exeriance it this, and the feelings make complete sense.

  • @hoghash78 nah man wiki it... its actually about stevie nicks dumping joe walsh, and telling him "dont come around here no more." no shit lol.

  • damn i LOVE TOM PETTY THIS SONG ROCKS MY WORLD !!!!

  • I loooooove Tom Petty's sound. What a phenomenal musician/artist. I have to find my cd that iTunes destroyed when I did a MicroSoft update. I miss playing his songs on my iPhone.

  • Just P.E.R.F.E.C.T

  • Four people noticed it didn't sound just like the other 3 times is was played on the radio earlier today. They must have good ears for good music.

  • awesome

  • I personally like the Take the Highway version; I like the Heartbreaker's singing rather than these women,

  • God damn, that was amazing. I didn't even mind the lack of sitar. This was badass!

  • That performance should be a national anthem somewhere.

A fucking religious experience. Feel high each time I listen.

  • It's tough to find backup singers like that these days.

  • Fuckin classic! 5 STARS!

  • Saw Tom Petty and Band years ago in San Diego. They dont play for 45 min. and say kissi my ass good bye. Three hours later you are Pettified. Thanks for the great music.

  • Does anyone know who and why they decided to leave this superb rendition of Don't Come Around Here no more outside of the Pack up the Plantation CD and only included it in the video?

I have the CD and there are at least a couple of songs that could have been left out if space was a concern.

This is one of his best versions ever!

  • Loved how he nicked this song for himself having given others so many of his songs.Glad he did because i couldnt see even the angelic stevie nicks doing a better version.Btw did he ever go out with nicks as she is gushing in her praise for him.btw this is a brilliant version of a brilliant song indeed. Thanks for posting and making a happy man very old.

  • That was truly Tom Petty Greatest !!!!! Rock fucking on!!!~!!!!

  • I wish I was alive when this concert went on.. this whole concert seems so awesome. I went and saw him in august and it wasnt anywhere close to this... probably cuz hes 60 now :)

  • The last time i listened to this song it wasnt even on the radio or anything, in fact i was wandering around my town and in my head every time they said STOP! my body would turn into a splash of red paint and i would literally cease to exist for a moment... but i never stopped walking that night

  • this very song from poplar creek(chicago) in 1985 still stands in my memory and always will. I was just a kid then but I knew this was my music for the rest of my life.

  • Absolutely Amazing. Great live version and Tom Petty is the man.

  • @javiergr99, best music is American.

  • @scottsvilleguy10 best music is not American, but Tom Petty is the best American singer

  • @smackenurjunk, there are many great popular American singers and bands. Our music is very popular around the world, you can't deny that. I don't wanna come off as arrogant though. When I said "best music is American", I was just stating my own personal opinion. Tom Petty is a great singer, I grew up listening to him.

    OUTSIDETHEBOCKS

  • Tom Petty is without a doubt the coolest musician in rock history. Some people will claim I'm wrong and site Elvis Presley or Keith Richards. Bullshit. Tom Petty just oozes total fuckin cool. What an awesome guy.

  • Hey, easy does it. But Keith is in his own special universe. Keith is Rock 'n' Roll.

Where do you think party like a rock star came from, watching Keith. Not to mention all the musical contributions he's made. I love Tom but became a junkie, than got clean cause of Keith. Keith Is A Rock 'N' Roll Heart

  • He's in the rock and Roll Hall of fame...

  • Tom is not really underrated. Just remember you coulndn't be just anyone to be in the Wilburys. He is a rock and roll legend. I have not seen him live since March 1995 but I hope to see him at Mad Sq Garden in July

  • God damn I'd love to have that hat.

  • Thanks for posting, Sadsms. The audio quality of your videos is amazing!

  • So Cool

  • sad they never come to norway=( all we got is a cover band...

  • @eirnil1

BUMMER - too bad!!! I'm sad for you guys in Norway. :(

Here in America, I have seen probably almost 200 rock concerts up until now in my life. I'm in my mid-40's! I have probably seen Tom Petty about 10 times. He is one of my all time favorites - ESPECIALLY in concert!!! Sorry, you are unfortunately missing out :(

  • @eirnil1

He is EVERYTHING you imagined him to be in real life - and probably much MORE with all the stage lights, effects, band, and that insatiable, adreneline rush everyone there somehow shares!

In fact, I am going to go see Tom Petty, with ZZ Top, tomorrow night. Tell me your favorite Tom Petty song and when he sings it, I will think of you! :)

FRIENDLY GREETINGS FROM ME & TOMMY PETTY HERE IN CALIFORNIA!!!!

  • Tom Petty is totally under rated, I don't know why. People need to listen to these songs which actually mean something, not the rubbish of today

  • I have to see him live. I hope he's gonna do one more tour in Europe before retiring.

  • tom kicks asssssssssssss awsome and the band i wish i was there.

  • Wow, how amazing was that!?

    Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers...

  • duuuuuuuuuuude

    shoot

    tom petty makes my day

  • Oh My when he puts that hat on and

turns and hits that guitar!. There is no

other like Tom Petty. And what a great guy,

    a rebel we all love.

  • i wish they had not inclulded the music video footage

  • disabling the embed thing is, like, so totally retarded.

  • your're right i hate losers who disable videos on youtube where u cant post and share on other sites with ur friends.

  • The two backing singers, if it helps, are Carroll Sue Hill and Pat Peterson. This is from the Pack Up the Plantation Live! video, he introduces the band during the course of the gig and they're the last but not least. They're referred to as the Rebelettes. I think they may also have joined him for Live Aid in the same year.

  • just love a man with a hat.

  • LOL, this video just got me in trouble, or I got myself in trouble with it, LOL.

I have trouble sleeping sometimes. I wake up at 0400 or so, and I remember, and the ghosts rise to haunt me.

So I got up this morning, showered and had breakfast. Sat down to burn a little rope and turned this video up a bit. It seems my neighbors objected to Tom Petty at dawn on a Saturday, and summoned the constabulary to express their displeasure.

Nothing like a talk with the gendarmes to start your day, LOL.

  • I think it speaks volumes, it is a hoot, "just going to the land of alice" in wonderland...you know la la land. You know when its a full moon and people start coming out of the woodwork. Funny.

  • Please someone tell me a better track.Keep returning to this.SUPERB it says, not much....Mushroom tea anyone?

  • best song!!!
