  • and never mix Francium with Fluorine

  • Thumbs up if you wanna see Francium

  • I read it Akali Metal, League of Legends players will relate

  • Just amazing Mme Bodart (vous voyez que j'écoute ce que vous me dites!)

  • I really couldn't care less this show was awesome, I mean who wouldn't want to do what they did!

  • 1:52 wires to detonator.

  • Its top gun not top gear guys

  • hamster! thumbs up if you like top gear!

  • Francium has a 1/2 life of 22 minutes I think and there is an estimated 50g in the earth's crust at any time (I think 10,000 atoms is the maximum amount ever collected). So no, they wouldn't let them have francium, but if I had some I'd be willing to give it to Hammond especially if Clarkson and May were in the vicinity too.

This is just another example of lazy science on tv.

  • Mythbusters proved this video bullshit in 2008!!!

  • @Stevesrssrssrs Buddy, Alkali metals do react that way. I read the periodic table everyday.

  • @doomknightsepulchure Oh I know they do. They spark and even explode, but Mythbusters proved the final video where the tub explodes is bullshit. They even added twice as much and 3 times as much Cesium as these people added and the tub didn't even crack. Same tub too. They needed a C4 charge to make the tub do that!!

  • Francium has a half life of 1 minute, thus it is useless for experiments

  • "They wouldn't let us have Francium" - no, it's just doesn't react because it is so reactive it reacts with the air first

  • Richard why aren't you on Top Gear?

  • Mythbusters proved this wrong!

  • dunno what was in that tub but it wasnt water and cesium

  • @ndavid120 Caesium*

  • Wikipedia proves this is fake bit.ly /efAY4v

  • i wish richard hammond was my science teacher

  • @eiryn24 What, and learn nothing?

  • 9gag brought me here

  • yay snowflakes and chemistry.

  • > FAKE! Myth already busted.

  • i like lithium now

  • hehe dogs nuts

  • 2:52 xD

  • @GraydonW francium is extremely rare on very small amounts can be crated and it has a very short half life but if u could enemas a decent supply then I can only imagine the destruction

  • Y U NO FRANCIUM

  • i had to watch this video for my homework! :) i think my science teacher is EPIC!

  • @ProfPikachu same here :p

  • But there are still wire into the bathtub and he runs over the hill to detonate it.

  • It's hard to believe but alkali metals really do this when they hit water.

  • This is fake Mythbusters proved it in one of there episodes

  • @0100BB nope, the futher down you go on the periodic table the crazier the elements get, sodium creates heat to ignite the hydrogen from the water because these elements remove an electron from the wate to make hydrogen, its real

  • I used to be an scientist like you, then i took a chemical to the knee

  • This is fake, because i saw some wires into the bath tub, and also , when he ran over the hill, the metals would blow immediately not go off after 10 seconds, he obviously went over the hill and into the truck to activate a detonator.

  • @Lefty7788tinkatolli

Watch it again slowly. Hammond says quite clearly that the Rb and Cs is kept in an airtight capsule that dissolves in water. Once it dissolved and the alkali metal was exposed to the water, the explosion occurred.

  • omg i was in science class and saw this video. i was like,"what the hell, is that richard hammond from top gear?!

  • Faked aha.

  • Hey! It's the guy from Top Gear!

  • Oh and let's see what video is up next? How to put on a condom looks very nice... lets click! :P

  • they cant get francium because its highly radioactive, and it only has a half life of about 19 minutes, by the time they obtain it and try and use it, it will have almost completely decomposed

  • Fake rubbish also Hamster and Tickle are very annoying, did he say "rubbish science videos"?......

  • @drakelowc All science videos ROCK!

  • Oh I miss seeing this show on tv. Only came here cause I was studying for my chem midterm and wanted something visual to help me remember stuff.

  • i would hate to be the person that discovered this axadentaly!!!!!:)

  • wire into bathtub visible at 1:52

  • dogs nuts?

  • the Death Star

  • awesome mr. k

  • Comment removed

  • "Rubbish science videos"... yet these dishonest clowns fake their own video for a paycheck. This isn't helping science - it's helping perpetuate distrust.

    Shame on you.

  • @chemnuke Don't be so negative mate!

  • thats what happen when i cum in a girls ass , the but explodes from the 2 sides :P

  • This was faked, myth busted.

  • @CTFxCForTheWin2009 and he has to buy a new toilet every time because every deuce he drops makes the toilet bowl disintegrate.

  • Ever notice that the explosions on Brainiac are (at least dynamically) very similar, even though they claim to use a wide range of wildly varying explosives?

This is because they use a few easily available, stable explosives to simulate the effects of dangerous, complicated or difficult to obtain explosives.

This is quite a good example, because although the reactions show would be very violent they would be utterly unlike what is shown here, especially carried out in an open bath.

  • 23412noby its the god :D

  • FAKE!

  • @IRoats You must not have taken chemistry yet.

  • @inFamousHero123 Yes I did... My teacher even said it was fake, so you must have no taken chemistry yet, because the reaction between water and Cesium and Rubidium is not that big....

  • @IRoats Then how big should it have been in this case?

  • Frankium Hahahaha

My teacher today just told us that that was the wrong pronunciation of Francium.

  • my chemistry teacher said its fake...im in class right now lol.

  • @JBSUX2255 Same XD

  • if there blowing stuff up. idm if its fake....

  • did he die?

  • Fake!

  • that is fake, they even proved it on mythbusters...

  • watchin this bull shit for science home work a hand grenade would have blown the fuck out of the bath

  • Chemie Homework: Watching this Vid. DONE!

  • Comment removed

  • ive watching this video, when i was a teenager!!!

really grea!!!!!!!t, now, im a university student of biochemical engineer!!!

  • Comment removed

  • thhis is a complete lie with the late one they starped a little bit of dinomight to it because it wouldnt go off the first and second time....but its true if it did go off probley it would go off like that xx

  • who cares if its fake or not, its a really fun video! so stop whining like kids

  • he straped dynamite to the chemicals, ceasium might be very reactive, but its not that bad

  • If cesium is the emperor, what is Francium then?

  • @23412nooby Universal Ruler of Everything?

  • @23412nooby God.

  • @23412nooby The God of the periodic table?

  • @23412nooby GOD?

  • @23412nooby god of course

  • @23412nooby God?

  • @23412nooby

In theory it is more powerful but it is so rare and radioactive that it can't really be used

  • @23412nooby Francium is God

  • @23412nooby Your mom

  • @12414666 Nice! So my mother could blow up your hometown by swimming there? Awesome!

  • @23412nooby

because there is no stable isotope of francium, it could not be attained easily, therefore we usually omit francium in reactions because they react quite fast....but nevertheless it is there.

  • @23412nooby radioactive -.-'

  • @23412nooby The Sith lord, maybe even God. :/

  • @23412nooby the god

  • @23412nooby it's god

  • Francium??

    Thank you.

  • Well, I knew it was fake before Thunderfoot's video...because of MythBusters :P

  • Yeah, I bet none of you smartasses never even realised it was fake untill you saw the Thunderfoot's video. Now you're just acting like big douhes by calling the video fake. It might be fake, but at least it's interesting, therefore fun to watch.

  • @ToriNight Not everyone on youtube gets their knowledge from the media. Some of us are actual chemists or physicists. Don't be too quick to judge others. Unless they are speaking in such a fashion that it is obvious they have only a small amount of education.

  • there is another video on youtube to prove that this experiment is fake, 'Brainiac alkali metals- fake!', gives prove to how the experiment is fake and what a true experiment of those metals look like, it's very well done!

  • I have lost all faith in my science department in my school after they showed this.

  • The halarious part is that my chemistry teacher actually showed this in class! She actually believed it, despite the horribly asinine story about a "special container that disolves in water (there's H2O present in the air, and he calls the container glass not 5 seconds earlier), or the fact that there is no way that the chemicals would be so explosive. Not to mention the cables to the explosives in the tub... XP

  • i watched this in science class 2day :)

  • @OwenAKAMinecraftKid what school you go to? so did i? i think you might be in same clas or if not thats just weird... o.O

  • @Fairfuzzle i live in uk, midlands.. dont think u are

  • @OwenAKAMinecraftKid ahh, i live in leeds uk, how weird? :) same video aswell

  • @OwenAKAMinecraftKid nice minecraft videos btw :)

  • Rubidium and Cesium: the 'dog's nuts' of the Alkali Metals

  • BZZZZZZZ BUHHHHHRRRRRR GIHHHHHHHHHH HERRRRRRRRRRPES

  • HERRRRP HERRRRRRRRRP DURRRRRRR

  • lol i saw them do some of this in school...

  • Comment removed

  • Its real...if you learned chemistry, its real. Alkali metals are not stable alone so they react with various substances (i.e the water). Those were alkali metals (if you cant tell...).

  • Guys its i think its not fake if you learn chemistry

  • Comment removed

  • Top Gear should have Mythbuster's as a guest. It would be pretty funny seeing them and Hammond talk about this (considering the busted it).

  • myth busted by mythbusters

  • Hell, I don't care if this is faked. Personally, I just watch for the explosions and would be disappointed if they set it all up for real and the bloody thing just went "Poof." That would NOT be worth showing on TV.

  • Why do you idiots think this is fake? If you think its so fake then go get some of the alkali metals and drop it into water, see how "fake" this is.

  • @evildarkpoison Look up the mythbusters episode where they test alkali metals. Alkali metals react with water yes but the explosions are far less than what is shown here. They used extra explosive for dramatic effect. Don't believe all you see on TV :)

  • @evildarkpoison it was faked.

  • The energy released by the heavier alkali metals is easily calculatable. If you have a gram of each metal, you're releasing similar amounts of energy. A gram of Cs is actually a lot less atoms than a gram of lithium, so even though each reaction is more energetic per atom, it is mitigated by the decreased atom count.

At the end of the day, caesium is not horribly more reactive than is potassium or even lithium.

The difference in the explosion is largely kinetics, not energy.

  • I have always wondered, if this where true, then why the fuck don't NATO make Rubidium weapons?

  • Comment removed

  • hiiiiiiiigh waaaayyy to the dangerzone :D

  • I always dont get this program, it's either fake or exaggeration, so what's the point, they proved potassium in a but of water only makes a pop, so why fake the bath tub?

  • Today's lesson; build your own bomb

  • a coke bathtub with 20kg of mentos.try it!

  • francium?

  • this is fake. you can see the actual wire at 2:31. (the wire that sets off the explosive).

  • @wayney97 aparently uve never seen mythbusers they proved that this stuff actually does this

  • @wayney97 That's not a wire numbnuts, that's probably to hold down the bathtub, or the hold the cones to it.

  • At least those 'rubbish' science videos are real and not fake.

  • What a bunch of fake bullshit........ I can't believe they would air such lies!

See the truth about this video below

    watch?v=jhg0WsINmPc

  • SO FAKE

It just wouldn't work/explode like that.

  • too bad Francium is such a rare metal because that would have been epic

  • fake, and bad use of chemistry

  • you can see the actual wire at 2:35.

    #Fail.

  • @dakingdog: If they blew up a bathtub with dynamite and told us they were blowing up a bathtub with dynamite, it would be entertainment. If they blew up a bathtub with dynamite and told us they were doing it with THE POWER OF THE MIND!, it would be entertainment. But they are pretending to be doing it with a method that seems plausible to the average person, but actually isn't it. That is deliberately misinforming people, and it's not okay.

  • Guys, it's entertainment. Does it matter if it's fake? It's entertaining and fun to watch.

  • @dakingdog It's not entertainment it's science. Or atleast should be.

  • @dakingdog

They entertain you under the guise of education. It's like saying "How harmful is Fox News?"

  • @dakingdog That statement just confirmed you as a moron.

  • FAKE! if u put a piece of Rb or Cs the size of a brick into a bath tub, it will probably be powerful enough to blow the bath tub up.

  • Liars.

  • I wont be watching Sky One UK until this video is pulled. FAKE

  • Not possible.

  • False and homosexual

  • fake and gay

  • FAKE

  • At least Justin has a lot of dislikes

  • I don't care if it is fake, I find this show fun and entertaining. :D

  • 'Only on brainiac do you get that kind of...science'

    Richard Hammond is a prick.

  • Thumbs up if you just saw Thunderfoots video about this!

  • Anyone who thinks this is real, look up Thunderf00t and how he explains how this is bullshit.

    disappointed, braniac, disappointed...

  • Fake.

  • Fake, im disappointed Hammond!

  • I know that everybody's hating on them for faking this but... my question is WHY? Why did they do that?

  • FAKE LIAR

  • @singingstudio05 Fake liar? If a liar was fake, he would be telling the truth.

  • @Bamananatic He was clearly saying 2 statements, and stupidly didn't put a comma or exclamation mark or other punctuation to separate them.

He was calling it a fake and the maker a liar.

  • @Bamananatic there was susposto be a comma but you just had to be a douche and prefect a stupid comment on youtube.... does that make you feel big?

  • @singingstudio05 Yes, it does make me feel big.

But why did you feel the need to post that comment? There are already hundreds of people pointing out it's fake, so it doesn't make any sense. Or does that make you feel big?

  • @Bamananatic yes it does make me feel big... look we could go on with this all day... we both are big

  • Fake and gay

  • Fake as shit

  • Fake!

  • they had to realize they weren't gonna get away with faking this shit. idk what they were thinkin

  • Only on Brainiac can you get this kinda fake video.

  • These sort of videos are crimes against society by irresponsible scientists.

Faking a video for science sake is as bad as publishing something in a peer reviewed journal by doctoring the data.

This video should be pulled by the authors.

  • @chemnuke this video is 5 years old so shut up

  • @chemnuke who said this was faked?

  • @chemnuke This, my friend, is something called "entertainment".

  • @bradrayp You're referring to science fiction, to which this video clearly does not claim to represent from the first sentence.

When your "science video" leads to a false urban legend, you are simply spreading idiocy.

    Do it legitimately.

  • @chemnuke In the end, it's just entertainment. Why does it matter so much that it's "fake"? And besides; what's the "false urban legend" that you claim to have exposed?

To recap, things blow up, it's cool, I like the show because it tastes good on my tongue.

  • @bradrayp this fake, with a detonator, or a a legitimate few grams of potassium in H20 done by a man without special effects? both entertaining, the other being true

  • @DemoticTruth I really just don't understand what the big deal about it is. So what if it's fake? It's still fun to watch things blow up. If you know what's real and what's fake then good for you. Don't spoil it for the rest of us.

  • @bradrayp Then go watch star wars, or perhaps movies of an atomic bomb blowing up.

  • @bradrayp Why does it matter that someone falsifies something in the name of science? Is this a serious question?

  • @chemnuke Why sure it is. Besides, how can you even prove that it's fake? Please show proof before you go criticizing something that you're apparently "an expert" on.
