  • I've watched at least one documentary (no joke) on each subject mentioned in this song. It saddens me that my generation is oblivious to what is going on.

  • 74 people disliked?! how?

  • It's about how Billy Joels generation got all this shit dumped on them when it wasn't their doing.

  • <333 learned in history. LOVE THIS SONGG my new fav and i cant get over diz <3

  • at 3:15 why does it have 1 date on the left but a different one on the right??

  • @xCheers1969 the lyrics are describing events between 1964 and 1989.

  • @artemispursuit4 Actually it was from 1949-1989, I remember learning about the Korean War from 1950-1953, and he mention North/Korea near the start of the song so it must be from 1949-1989, plus you can tell by the dates given in the lyrics.

  • @Dak17SJ xcheers1969 was talking about the lyrics that started at 3:15, not the entire song.

  • @xCheers1969 it was to show that everything that they listed was between those two periods of time.

  • @Genesis1864 @artemispursuit4 Thanks I understand now :)

  • I have to memorize this song for my Theatre Class... I love the song, but it takes a lot to memorize it. Something about a game involving concentration for every word. Idk, but all i know is I'm going to memorize this song! ;)

  • @ohisaacification same here except she just showed it to us today but I'm in 8th

  • Ryan started the FIRE! -The Office(:

  • we did a school thing with this. it was last year in 7th grade. everyone picked an event and either dressed up or brought a picture. the teacher took pictures of everyone who participated for it and put it into the video. good times :)

  • This should've been put in response to all of the wars that the President Bushs' started. Blame them not USA

  • @Darman2361 And Obama continued.

  • @Darman2361 Even though this song was written in 1989, before Bush? Dumbass

  • @LittlePikachu Hence the reason I said SHOULD'VE

  • I came here from Russell Howard.

  • EVERY HUMAN INDIFFERENCE STARTED THE FIRE..

  • I know, i'm going to learn my history from this. The dates help a lot.

  • what started the fire was all the mother fucken asshole dick fucks at manchester valley high school.

  • You it would be interesting to see this song get remade for today's world. I mean while it may not be as good as this version if done right it could be almost as good as the original, but thats only if who ever is doing it keeps the spirit of the original, unlike what happened in "Right Round" where they changed it to a song about strippers.

  • @Bowserboy129 i see what you mean, adding like 9/11 and our economy..

  • Although WE didn't start the fire, the government is starting another!

  • I learned more in this song than in my whole year of History class

  • @Thebestplayer969 I know....have you looked up any of these events? actually interesting..........like children of thalidomide

  • @Thebestplayer969 my history teacher didnt teach anything after world war 2 everything before was fair game though and i learned alot

  • @Thebestplayer969 yea so much what schools teach us

  • @Thebestplayer969 That's because the Cold War and the years after World War II in general seem to be taboo subjects in most schools. Probably because the US launched a propaganda campaign that focused on teaching children everything good about the US but glossing over those areas in our history that perhaps aren't so nice to look at. It's gotten better in past years thanks to a heaping helping of liberal guilt, but there's still a lot they won't tell you.

  • @UnlabledLabler Yeah, I hadn't even heard of the Cold War or Korean war until my eighth grade year, that was the same year I found out we had actually lost a war!

  • @Thebestplayer969 history class is the first place i heard this song.....Thank you Mrs. Harden

  • @Thebestplayer969 I learned more hearing this song than 4 years of high school and a semester in college

  • @Thebestplayer969 Same man. But the best part was we played the song 5 times, and the whole class sang it. :D

  • North Korea, South Korea, Marilyn Monroe.

  • rich alvarez sent me here

  • singing karoke while friends stare at the sceen trying to keep up while i have back to screen priceless

  • Ryan started the fire!

  • Is it weird that I'm doing Social Studies homework while listening to this song?

  • @YayMoreZelda4Me

Why would that be weird, in any instance?

  • lol i always thought it was "trouble in the SEWERS"

  • Greatest concert i ever went to was when Elton John and Billy Joel did a face to face concert, now that was only 2 and a half years ago, im 16 now and it is still my fav concert of all time, compared to The Eagles, Tom Petty and Poison, this was the best and still is and i will never forget it

  • @YourMumJC Wait, scratch that, just re-listened. Yes, I do. Fuck.

  • Don't really agree with what he's saying in the song, but it's a classic nonetheless :,)

  • @YourMumJC ??? color me confused. Which part 1950 or 1961? or we didn't start the fire?
