  • i am getting idea's for my home server install. new to this whole thing and i am going to put some version of 7 on it. dont want to take a lot of time learning a whole new OS like linux plus from my knowledge, linux has driver issues...thanks for the upload, just bouncing from video to video getting a good idea of what i can do.

  • @fightingfalconfan WHAT?! Take that back. Linux, DRIVER PROBLEMS?! WHAT MORON TOLD YOU THAT! I have a wyse thin client with NO drivers running linux, it instlaled all the drivers instantly and runs better then with windows

  • @iToasterman I dont remember, it was in 2007 when I worked at compUSA and was helping out a customer find the networking cards. He had told me linux has driver issues. But still; I dont want to take the time to learn a whole new OS like linux. I personally dont have anything against that OS just like I dont have anything against the iOS when i am an android user. I just like something that will work for me and I already know my way around.

  • @fightingfalconfan .... im not a ios user. you assume the i means apple?! only apple?! and linux has driver issues?! >:O

  • @iToasterman: He said he had nothing against iOS being an Android user. Also, your comment about having "a thin client with NO drivers running linux" was a little inaccurate, everything requires drivers of some sort or another. Anyway, please stop arguing over which OS is better than that OS, I really am getting sick of it now, I will have to disable comments if this keeps up.

  • @Guru01010 were not arguing about the better os. he also assumed im a ios user even though i;ve stated on many places i perfer android... and if you read my comment, " it instlaled all the drivers instantly ..." I didnt have to hunt down drivers, it just loaded them on its own. btw, how mutch is WHS

  • @iToasterman guys, all i ment from that was an example. I never assumed you were an iOS user..just using it as an example since i know their is a huge argument on wich is better, iOS vs android. I personally could care less about it, I use android and it suits me, I have yet to try out the iOS platform but i have used ipods before. Anyway, on the drivers thing my Linux knowledge is outdated considering i have not used it since 2004. I just know windows better is all.

  • @fightingfalconfan we all knows windows better, why are you leaving wp7 out of this?!

  • @iToasterman whats that?

  • @fightingfalconfan windows phone 7

  • @iToasterman oh. because i have not personally used it and I barely know anyone with a wp7....I have friends who have both android and iphone so wp7 to us is really non existent...sorry

  • @fightingfalconfan so you like android and ios and windows but dont know wp7 from anything tech wise. but you don't seem to like ios... or wp7 e_e

  • @iToasterman i just have not personally used wp7. i would use ios if i could afford it. I am right now using a Samsung transform with android 2.2.2 and it gets the job done...little laggy though. I am waiting for the galaxy nexus to come out with 4.0. I also don't like being tied down to apple with having them fix any issues. Prefer to do it my self.

  • @fightingfalconfan change ur launcher and close background apps to fix lag also use simple backgrounds i use a apollo, also the nexus has 4.0 already and is out already :D

  • @iToasterman Thats just how the phone is, my launcher is completely stock and i dont have any real back round apps to speak of. main one in pandora. Yes the nexus is out already for every carriar except mine...I am on sprint. the last carriar to get any upgrade. I already know it has 4 on it since i have a tech friend who loves android like no other. he tells me whats good for android and stuff. but thanks anyway.

  • @fightingfalconfan root and unlock it... xda forums ;P

  • @iToasterman tried, it dont take.

  • @fightingfalconfan change to golauncher :P

  • @iToasterman I am just not going to bother with it any longer...going to just buy the nexus when sprint releases it. Thanks though :)

  • @fightingfalconfan So your gonna buy it when its 8 revs out of date? :P btw im canadian so i don't know how bad it is in the usa for that

  • @iToasterman sprint, is right now the last to update the phone system. Verizon is the first, and t mobile and Att are right now in the middle. I would switch to Verizon but i am bound by a contract by sprint. I don't want to pay a 200 usd cancellation fee. I don't know how Canada is with cell phones; but here in the U.S. if you cancel a contract you can get up to a whole month's bill in a fee.I hate it, but its all we have here.

  • @fightingfalconfan D: here it can be up to $500 :/

  • @iToasterman yeaouch! mine would be upto 200 bucks! i dont know what that is in Canadian.

  • @iToasterman i know... :p

  • People that make comments like these other retards clearly do not know what they are talking about. It is all about the right tool for the job. Linux has it's advantages and it has many...many disadvantages, windows has IT'S advantages. Certain things are easy to do in linux, sometimes easier than windows, some things are easier to do in windows, there are quite a few things that really don't even exist in linux or they are hard as shit to do, don't come and bitch at someone without good reasons

  • Wow pretty nice setup. Are you running it just for file sharing/backups? Seems overkill to have such a high spec for that use, but personally i'm always more interested in power usage.

If you were into power usage, you could probably pull the graphics card (depending on the bios) and let it run completely headless. The right version of win7 will let you use remote desktop or whatever theyve called it now lol.

  • sucks because, is not low power consumption 650w lol, is not linux based operating system(could be a virtualization server for several servers), has too much ram just for the crapy win7 (this ram could be used for the virtual machines to run).

So just to run windows7 that is the worst scenario as a server. And the case is full of cables everywhere.

    For me thumbs down.

  • @jpng81: Well, if I knew this video would turn into a pissing contest of "Mine is better than yours because...!" I would have never bothered uploading it. As far as power goes, it does DRAW 650w you 'tard, that's simply the PSU rating. I didn't want a Linux server, so I didn't build one, fancy! You can never have too much RAM. What is wrong with you people, get a life or go play in traffic. Either way, stop turning a "Show & Tell" video into a fucking pissing contest!

  • @Guru01010 Don't take me wrong... but that's not a server, it's just my opinion, i just think you could take so much advantage of that computer configuration.

Windows7 needs 1Gb of ram just to start working minimaly... in linux you would only need 90Mb of ram to start the server.

If you don't like visitors comments, take comments off... duhh.

  • @jpng81: I don't need a Linux lecture, I know fully well what it is and is not capable of. I put Windows 7 on there because I wanted Windows 7 on there, end of. Run your own crap how you want to. Enough.

  • @Guru01010 sorry but your ignorant. ain't a damn thing linux can't do to satisfy your needs

  • @xmodrock: Jesus, how many more times do I have to tell you people! I know what Linux can do, I run a Debian system at home, I admin Linux systems at work. I WANTED A WINDOWS BASED MACHINE! Get off your goddam high horses before you fall and hurt yourselves.

  • @Guru01010 the question is why!

  • @xmodrock: Because it's what I wanted, it really just boils down to that. Also, at the time of implimentation, CUDA support on Linux was lacking and I wanted to use the machine's idle time for BOINC computation. The bottom line is simply this, it did what I wanted it to do, which is a good point to make to anyone on either the software or hardware front, if it does what you want it to do with as little frustration as possible, stick with it, if it doesn't, consider changing.

  • @Guru01010 i suppose thats good enough reasoning

  • I put silica gell in my computers to :D Nice set up man but come on clean that wiring up you want it to run as cool as possible, and Btw everyone saying its not a server STFU you can't bash the man for having highish grade parts in his server just because your running shitty p4 dell's as servers.

  • The way you pronounced xilent sounds better ;)

  • weak...... ugly case and crappy setup. buy a lianli

  • @pjstasyna1: Care to explain your comment?

  • that computer looks like it could do some gaiming.

  • so sad and lame.

  • Nice setup thought u would have maybe had a separate network or raid controller but still nice for a home setup.

Ignore all the other comments about overkill comments. It's a server people things like Power supplies, high amount of ram etc is part of a server. its better to have a little extra power in case something does happen to any part of it same with making it reliable it needs to be u don't want a piece of shit holding all your files and one day dies.

    good vid

  • pretty cool server, bet that thing can play some games as well lol

  • Why not Ubuntu Server Edition 64-bit instead of Windows 7... And 8GB OF RAM??? oh yes because of windows 7... That's not really a server, that's a gaming PC with some extra drives in it, referred to as a server.

A REAL server is a machine setup for low power consumption and low cost. Mine (For example) Is running Ubuntu Server 32-bit on an AMD Athalon XP 3200+ (2.2Ghz), Shit OEM Board, 512MB DDR2, a 360W PSU, and no video card. I get full 1Gb/s Transfer speeds and can admin via SSH.

  • how do you keep those 3.5" HDs on those 5 1/4"? kit?

  • OVERKILL all

  • @Pankmachina: Not overkill, works just fine, thanks for your concern. :)

  • @Pankmachina no such thing as overkill

  • 1. OVERKILL POWERSUPPLY 2. Overkill VIDEOCARD. Seriosly... :s you can use vnc, it dosent need a viro card as it reads from the ram. Not the video card...

  • @iToasterman: lol How about, having more than you need is better than having not enough? An under used power supply is much better than an over used one. A GT 8500 is overkill? Oh please. lol It's a POS card I had lying around, not only that, but how do you intend to install the system without a card in it?

If you don't have anything more constructive to say, stay quiet.

  • @Guru01010 Remove the video card, but a video card like that is overkill in a server, so is a 600 watt psu XD why didn't you try 400?

  • @iToasterman: Video card like that is just fine in a server, it was surplus to requirements anywhere else, so I used it.

And show me a quality PSU from a reputible manufacturer with 6+ SATA connectors rated at 400w, why would I want to buy another PSU when the one I have works just fine? Just because?

Furthermore, try logging in via VNC with Win 7 passwords enabled, you have to have your desktop load straight away for VNC server to even come up.

  • @Guru01010 I can do that, but i stoped using seven until i get a sata supported power supply. But yea, itsn ot hard to get that with windows 7

  • Spider+Fan= Decap

  • btw, you have a very good cable management ;)) better than others :P

  • wow, very very nice hardware :D

    especially that dead spider xD

    cya!
