  • Great video! Practical Karate.

  • Sad to think that "traditional" karate was not desined to defend people against the "non-weapons" laws or to promote health and this kind of thing... But to fight against civilians in the so called "streetfighting", most of all knew nothing about fighting... So it´s the same if I use my MT or KM or boxing to defend myself in a bar fight, o in a car fight... What a pitty.

  • Nice video!!

  • Goju! thats my style.. good to see some okinawan karatekas those guys are pro

  • the punches are sloppy!

  • awesome workout guys. loved it!

  • Very good !!

  • 1:04 LOL

  • Was that a korea's flag?

  • when? I did not see one even when I looked back.

  • No,Desconhecido,It's the emblem of IOGKF with kanji down each side of it.

  • i don't think this is the same as what i do, i do Traditional Okinawan Meibukan goju-ryu karate-do i think this is around the same lines but not EXACTLY the same, it looks pretty cool, i've been training in mine for just over 4 years and it just proves the point that with patience good things will happen with time things will get better and with practice things will reach perfection! am i wrong?

  • your definition of perfection will vary as you age, so it's not something you can actually achieve....enjoy the journey rather than worrying about the destination i say.

  • Looks hard, ouch!!

  • Very cool! I especially like the arm bar takedown at the end where he uses his knee to assist. I've never thought to do it that way.

    Osu!

  • no style can be learnt quickly, it takes time for it to be second nature, all depends on the person, generally doing it quick you wont get a feel for the art, any art, even wing chun.

  • 6May09

Many thanks for your erudite, incisive, invigorating comment and advice pama4242. What would the Martial Art world be like without such people as your good self?

  • im felix from fiji, thank for the video i have been practicing goju ryu for over 10 yrs

  • Why did you even post this boring grade school crap. At least show some real stuff

  • everone would be like you showing grade school stuff

  • if wing chun works for you so be it, goju ryu is an extremely powerfull style, when trained properly very effective in combat.

  • You sound like you would go down fast and hard...... You don't know how to fight do you ???.....lol

  • @pama4242 in a way karate is wing chun and vice versa.

  • hahaha, i hope everyone was hurt durring the making of this video ;D

goju ryu doesnt work unless you hurt yourself

  • 21Mar09 LOL. :)

ozfuji, how could you wish harm on your fellow man! Unfortunately, no one was seriously hurt but, apparently, the Kin geri 0:13 was a bit close, oh yes! and the fumikomigeri 0:18 landed on it's mark. A few minor smacks in the mouth etc caused through inability to block fast enuf.

Serves 'em right it'll steepen the learning curve.Normal dojo session really. Not had any deaths for ages now.Cheers, ozfuji :)

  • @fumikomgeri if there were deaths, the japanese government would have closed it down, no?

  • nice video. very ilustrative. :)

  • Thanks for the advice.

  • Is it true that goju ryu is more direct than all other karate styles?

  • I haven't tried all the other styles Bjjownsu

10 haven't had the time, Goju will do me ok.But I can say Goju and other traditional

karate styles,if taught properly, are "direct"

and practical. that's what they were devised for,not for any sporting purposes.

  • True very true. I'm going to take karate over the summer and how long does it take to get a black belt if you are dam good.

  • Difficult to say, but if you want a figure to roughly work, on I'd say at least 4 years.

    Beware of organisations offering B/Belts

in 2 or even 1 year. They're after your money kid, and, the quality of what they teach is,at best,"questionable". If you Google something like Goju ryu (or whatever style interests you)sites or Goju ryu forums I'm sure you'd find some interesting reading that may help you make up your mind. Good luck Bjjownsu10.

  • Goju ryu is a very good style of karate, Shoin ryu is also great, goju has more powerful techniques, wile shorin seems to have quicker techniques, so I suppose its a matter of what you prefer.

  • I agree, farorin, that's why I advise people to try different ryu if they can.I think it's very difficult for a new starter to choose. There seems to be a lot of "styles" around. If one

is a new starter how do they know what's what?It was only "luck" I picked Goju many years ago and it seemed it was as I imagined karate should be. I could have picked the "wrong" style, given karate up,and missed everything that Goju has given me.

  • Yeah there are a lot of styles everywhere, some of which are barely sports what to speak of martial arts, and someof which are truly amazing. I found what suites me through trial and error, haha

  • What's the difference between goju-ryu, shotokan, and kyokushin.

  • The best advice I could give, Bjjownsu10, is to Google and read up on all three, and/or find some appropriate clubs, have a few lessons at each. The difference will become apparent .

  • I want to learn Karate, but there are many styles!!! I'm looking for a type of karate that is realistic, hardcore, deadly, sporty, for self-defense, and effective.

  • self defense is more than against someone who does not know how to fight, and in truth it is best for inside fighting.

  • Once again ,you're right, nesunpassato But I'd have to slightly disagree in that it is against untrained attackers not someone who doesn't know how to fight..

There are many thugs who can throw a powerful punch or kick but they haven't trained. One should never underestimate

attackers no matter who they are.

  • then it is for a trained attacker as well. we can't expect everyone to be just as would be desired, thats why we work so hard...not to be the best, but better.

to anyone who does karate "book of five rings" is awsome book

  • Good video, I train in Goju as well. Nice, solid drills.

  • Hey Fumikomgeri! Greetings from San Diego California. Our main dojo is located on Coronado island headed by Sensei Miko Peled. But I attend that dojo's branch in Rancho Bernardo. I've been watching some of your other vids. Thanks for all the uploads man. Good training!!

  • Excellent IOGKF training - you have a great group of students, at all levels. Keep up the great work!

  • very good video, it's great to see people when they train karate at okinawa style, which is becoming very popular around the world. here in my country , Chile we try to combine the okinawa karate with the spirit of our ancient warriors "mapuche". so we try to get well prepare for battle, specially because we have a lot of thieves and burgles on the street and it's very usual to be engaged with a fight in the street, just because they want rob you or kill you.

  • This appears similiar to the liniage of Go-ju I was tought.

Hopefully Chile will no a greater measure of peace some day.

  • nice video, good hard training

  • Great Video!

  • never knew that there were so many goju dojo around the world :)

  • Wow Pecherin72, thats a comment I don't think any of us expected.. fortunately for all of us size is not necessarily an indication of quality :).

  • No, thank goodness not:)

  • Nice vid. Your club's a little bigger than ours:)

  • Goju is the real McCoy!

very nice guys. it's good to see how it can be applied effectively against laymen in the street environment! the black belt on the far right reminds me of george andrews!
