I am 27 Years old....And my Grandpa bought me Buddy's Greatest Hit's on CD When i was 13....And all i can say is that he had an immpact on me as soon as i heard the first song.......No one....And i mean NO ONE.....Could ever hold a candle to Buddy Holly And His Cricket's...Todays music Sucks...And Always will.
This takes me back, and I'm only 24. You never hear 50s and 60s on the radio anymore. The "Oldies" stations are all 70s and 80s now. This was a favorite of mine when I was much younger. Timeless songs like this never die.
I'm 64 and this was the very first record (45) I ever bought. It cost .99 cents, I believe.(which is a lot, come to think of it.. Maybe I'm wrong?) And I think the year was '57 or '58. (???) I was about 10 yrs old.
I was a junior in high school the day the music died. I remember to this day sitting on my front porch in Phoenix and crying. I have all his recordings. There was a great boxed set that came out a couple of years ago, with his very early recordings, including out takes. Very worth while investment. At Amazon, it's called "Not Fade Away: Complete Studio Recordings & More [Box Set]".
I'm 57 and my oldest memory is of my sisters birthday party (I was 5 yrs old) and hearing this song playing on her record player.I remember walking over and looking at the purple labled Brunswick labled 45 spinning round and how I LOVED what my young ears were hearing. My sis had to correct me on the lyrics though when she saw my parents and her girlfriends
laughing at me while I sang along with the record with what I thought was "Nakee Baby" but hey,I was only 5!!
@ancientpatrician You add a certain unmistakeable, unmasked class to the forum - not dipping into the vulgar is a tribute both to your upbringing and your native intelligence - nice job!
i'm 64 and this huge talent and his great songs never get old to me. i love driving up to a place with his music blowing out of my speakers. young people just look at me like hey old man what is that music? they will never understand, now will they?
@TheLadandLass I have listened to this my whole life! Back in the 90s when I was a little kid, i was listening to Doo wop, Buddy Holly, and Elvis while everyone else listened to crap. These songs are the soundtrack to my life and i wouldn't have it any other way. I only have appreciation for a great artist like Buddy, unlike the rest of my generation, and It's a shame that oldies stations don't play this kind of stuff now. Even 60s music is beginning to get obscure. long live Rock and Roll!
@TheLadandLass Some of us young people get it. I'm 27 and I grew up listening to Buddy's music. Now when I listen it takes me back to those happy days of my childhood, back when they used to play stuff like this on the radio...
@TheLadandLass I'd completely understand. You could drive round my neighbourhood with Buddy's music blasting the whole day! Heck, I'd pay you to do it!
@TheLadandLass i don't care what music you're playing, playing it so loud that people can hear it outside your car is just plain rude. I like this music but i have enough respect for other people that i know they might not like it...
@TheLadandLass I'm 17 and I would trade all of todays music for Buddy Holly and Frank Sinatra. A lot of people my age don't appreciate real music but some of us do.
