Too much thermal paste, just a little at the center of the cpu is okay, no need to paint them all over the place, it's very dangerous if it's leak below the cpu.
About the air flowing, you done it right caused the airflow will take the heat outside due to the fan side!
wt a stupid guy thermal compound on the cpu and the heatsink.. should only be applied to the cpu becuase the heatsink surface is bigger than the cpu the thermal paste will be forced out to the sides and over the sides of teh cpu and even the motherboard !!!
@pakigangster12345 oddly, the manufacturer actually advises people do apply thermal grease to both the CPU and the contact point on the heatsink. No idea why, I'm sure it's not necessary.
what kinda disgusting looking rig is this? did you need that cooler for the chip ya had? what was wrong with the stock one ya had on there? and ya sure that thermal paste was'nt tooth paste? yikes
thanks for the video! At 5:23, which direction is the air flowing? is should be to the left (straight outside), right? I have the same setup but when i feel the air it seems to be going to the right towards the RAM modules. Have i done something wrong??
I love the paste ,,way man slap half the bottle on ,,that does harm ya know,,just a small pea size,,,also he protects the new heatsink withe plastic case, but slaps the mobo on the floor and treats it bad,,wow
@nickfighter28 i didnt notice him treating the borad like crap, and if u didnt notice he put the heatsink in plastic so it wouldnt roll around dipshit. lol but this video is epic fail anyways, he like a 2 year old in art class painting on all that thermal paste. lmao
is it worth buying a zalman 9700 for a amd phenom II x4 955 BE? is the zalman going to make less noise than that stupid amd stock cooler? someone pls respond
WOW, The cpu will fail becuase that is way to much compound. The compound is only to transfer heat. Use a thin lare of compound and make sure it is evenly spreaded. I use the credit card method.
Love the way people are saying to much paste. Its not Arctic Silver its Thermal grease ZM-STG1 , This is the EXACT way your meant to apply it. So stop hitting on the guy when this is exactly the way it says to do it on the tin.
No matter how much thermal compound he smears on it, it will outperform his previous air cooler for sure! But hell, it is way too much i agree with u guys...
incase you didnt notice thats the paste that comes with zalman coolers and you literally paint it onto the cpu unlike other brands that come in a plunger, applying to the heatsink maybe overkill but perhaps instructions specified otherwise. no need to pass judgement with no basis.
He's painting the thermal paste as if he's painting the wall or something....wtf...the amount you put on your CPU is already fukin much...now you are putting it again on fan base...You are a NOOB
are you sure there is enough thermal paste on the cpu and the cooler? It's better to squeeze the rest of the tube out of it, so that there's nothin left.
If i plug it straight into the motherboard without the fan controller will the fan just run at 100%?... because 1) i lost the cord for it & 2) i dont need to control it anyway i want it going 100% all the time
Yes. I used the same cooler for my old P4 3,4GhZ and the temperature went down to 40°C from about 65°C (with the old fan). The controller isn't needed to make it work properly. Anyway, I have to agree with the others; too much thermal paste!
@mickeyliveshere: Only if it is thermal paste with silver-oxyd. Silicon thermal paste does NOT conduct electricity.
It does come with it yes. Dont listen to the guy who says retailers take it out to sell because its this tiny little 1 shot of paste so you cant sell that
holy crap batman...How much thermal paste can you use. Crap load on CPU then the cpu cooler. I mean i understand people might not understand thin layer and put to much on cpu. But this guy by far is the worse out there
i mean my intel Extreme i might have put alittle to much but god its like yea ok alot
Im watching this to check out the brush thermal paste
Im like wow thats to much paste but whatever then he puts more on fan im like omg.. Also even tho he is on concrete or tile floor i always put my anti static band on you never know
As a quick guide this is ok - doesnt go into enough detail in regards to retention clip orientation, measurements of the fan compared to PSU and Graphic Card or even orientation of fan compared to case fan - these are all very very important
WAYYYYYYY too much thermal compound. DO NOT USE THAT MUCH. A speck the size of a grain of rice is all you need...any more and it hurts the performance of heat transfer! Spread it around really carefully with a razor and you'll have a nearly translucent layer of compound which is what you're supposed to have.
no, he did not use too much paste. This is exactly how you are meant to apply this zalman thermal grease. You paint it on the cpu with the brush it comes with. Go to the zalman website if you dont believe me.
hate to break it to you, but you're wrong too. the fan is facing the correct direction in this video. i own one and can see the orientation of the fins on the fan, not to mention that i can feel the airflow direction with my hand. oh and don't forget the documentation which indicates this is the correct direction of airflow. but hey if you want your heatsink on backwards, that's your business.
First off all not ever case is the same and second I like for the heat to blow out the rear of the case and on into it. If you like the heat to make circle in your case that is up to you. I do have one myself is how I know the fan was install incorrectly. As I stated I made the same mistake myself when I first installed it. Also, did it cross your mind that your fan might be on the other side of you heatsink?
if you have space of more than 15 centimeters between your motherboard and the case cover, it will be fine.. the cooler itself is 14.2 centimeters tall. i just bought the black one and it keeps my quadcore amd chip under 50c.
Thx dude you really helped me out!!!.Its not hard but i was kind of nervous cause its my first time.I also read the comments and i know i need less thermal paste..
It's not far too much really - it's that thermal grease you apply with a brush like nail polish. It's very thin and that's how the instructions tell you to apply it.
would cool much better if you put less thermal paste on (non on the heatsink, only on the processor) and if you put it in the right way, you want the fan blowing to the case fan not the cd drive.
yes, it will, it is equipped with all necessary accessories for most CPU's available today, I'm using it with Phenom II 720 - max temps in stress it reached was 39 degrees :)
some cases hav mobo trays has a hole where the cpu is located, with those trays you don't have to, but if there isn't one you have to remove everything because the cooler's retention plate needs to be installed behind the mobo.
man i would have thought that these zalman fan would have performed well but after watching these vids i would never buy one my arctic cooling frezzer7 pro does way better than these zalman ones and way chepper also
Probably; I use the NT version of this heatsink myself (anodized nickel with green LED fan), and I get 55-60C in a 24C room with my e6600 OCed to 3.6 GHz
And these readings were when I had a G80 GPU kicking out heat, mind you. It's much cooler now that I downclocked my CPU to 3.2 and my graphics card the cooler 55nm G92b
one thing i would do is note the load temps with speedfan and run a seperate cpu stress utility with coretemp and note any differences in readouts. speedfan isn't very accurate, at least for me anyway. there was even pretty big difference with idle temperature when comparing speedfan's readout and the readout from my bios.
just a thought : ) now you gotta upgrade to a 45nm processor and start overclocking that sucker!
I really want to get in to building computers and such, but I'm very intimidated with all the wires... especially on the motherboard. How do you know what goes where?
me i hope to get soon a job to pay myself some classes and learn how to build a computer if you have the money to learn what a are you waiting for i know that the wiring goes together with muting the hardware together so its easy youll learn go for it
You don't really need classes, just a friend who knows computers or access to a computer with internet. It's fun to deal with the hardware after you get the hang of it. :)
Would you like some CPU with that thermal paste?

two layers of it (one on the cpu and one on the cooler) wrecks it all!

Probably; I use the NT version of this heatsink myself (anodized nickel with green LED fan), and I get 55-60C in a 24C room with my e6600 OCed to 3.6 GHz
And these readings were when I had a G80 GPU kicking out heat, mind you. It's much cooler now that I downclocked my CPU to 3.2 and my graphics card the cooler 55nm G92b

thanks again

remove both intel heatsink & fan

alright thank you very much :)

one thing i would do is note the load temps with speedfan and run a seperate cpu stress utility with coretemp and note any differences in readouts. speedfan isn't very accurate, at least for me anyway. there was even pretty big difference with idle temperature when comparing speedfan's readout and the readout from my bios.
just a thought : ) now you gotta upgrade to a 45nm processor and start overclocking that sucker!

I really want to get in to building computers and such, but I'm very intimidated with all the wires... especially on the motherboard. How do you know what goes where?

You stop being a canuck and ask your viking friend, Oh, and they mostly just match up, and the ones that don't have wiring diagrams usually

me i hope to get soon a job to pay myself some classes and learn how to build a computer if you have the money to learn what a are you waiting for i know that the wiring goes together with muting the hardware together so its easy youll learn go for it

You don't really need classes, just a friend who knows computers or access to a computer with internet. It's fun to deal with the hardware after you get the hang of it. :)

i visualise where the wires are coming from and where they go but dont worry about them if ou get stuck have a look at the mobo manual :)
