@annie10103 I was confused at first too. The country he's from isn't Bulgaria, though. Roald Dahl created a fictional country called Vulgaria which is a play on the actual country of Bulgaria. If you look at the scene where Baron Bomburst's air ship docks at his castle it's written on the side of the balloon part.

@MichaelSirois The castle they use is Neuschwanstein castle in Bavaria, Germany. I think they did not actually film in Bulgaria is because, at the time, it was under the Soviet Union's sphere of influence, therefore they had to find an alternative location to film.

1. I didn't know the baron and all that was not actually happening, although now I can see how they do some squiggly fade in or whatever when it starts
