Prav401 You're quite right, The relative minor of A is F#m. But C#m will work because it's diatonic to A, although it's not really a true substitution. All he's really doing is as you say, is playing the Phrygian mode..starting the A scale at C# which he incorrectly calls Db, because he's in A. It obvious he's pretty knowledgeable about music, but maybe not all the intricacies of music theory. Either way, it's an interesting scale choice, one I probably wouldn't have thought of in a solo.

GloriaUSB It's an F6 played at the 8th fret. F bass 5th string, A on 4th string 7th fret, D on 3d string 7th fret. That's all he's playing. No 5th in the chord. Normally an F6 would be F A C D but he's omitting the C.

one of the best most underated guitarists EVER, love it! now to be a typical A-hole guitarist myself; the Db is not the relative minor its the 3rd of A major also know as the phrygian scale from the modes. Also the 4 note chords he plays are commonly called shell voicings. I know im gonna get crap for correcting here but screw its all in the spirit of fun and knowledge of our instrument!!!
