@timh97sg1 everything i stated is well documented and pretty reliable stuff. I'm not 100% sure about the exact numbers (neither are historians) but the partisans were dominated by ethnic Serbs especially in 1941-42. I agree with you about wiki and only mentioned it in response to another comment.

Well if you looked it up on wiki u should know that in late 1941 the partisans in Serbia proper were 23000 and in Croatia 7000 (a disproportionate number of which were ethnic Serbs). The first anti-partisan offensive was in Serbia (Užice) and it was in the Serbian parts of Bosnia and Croatia that Tito found most of his recruits. Historian Tim Judah notes that in the early stage of the war the initial preponderance of Serbs in the Partisans meant in effect a Serbian civil war had broken out. Bye.

You must remember that Croatia had a big Serbian minority which was being systematically wiped out by the Ustashe and it was this minority that formed the bulk of the "Croatian" partisans. Even though they were ethnic Serbs they were deemed Croatian not for their ethnicity but for the territory from which they came. By far the biggest percentage of Yugoslav partisans therefore are ethnic Serbs from Croatia and Bosnia.

The first partisan uprising started in the Serbian town of Užice (Užička Republika - there's even a popular Yugoslav movie commemorating the event). Tito was half Croatian half Slovene. Yugoslav documents confirm that ethnic Serbs formed around 80% of partisans in 1941-42. At this time the % of ethnic Croats in the partisans was very low but it increased in 1943.

@bossmastercheif First army resistance in EUROPE not just Yugoslavia was in Brezovica forrest,near Sisak.It considered 79 ppl,and trivia,one of those ppl was Janko Bobetko,famous general in Croatian war for independence 91-95.About number of partisans,I looked on wiki,in 41-43 was like Croatia 150k,Serbia 15K LoL and so on,only year when Serbia got biggest number is 44,when Tito abolied Chetniks and they all put red star instead of their two-headed eagle.Salute.
