why doesnt he just play on a nylon string guitar and grow his nails out like a real classical guitarist because i personally find steel string sound annoying
@zoltanicalify you don't get what the term " playing with emotion " means then, It's the Dynamics / tempo shifts and a bunch of other stuff that is actually summed up by saying " great emotion "
But this kid has a pick on each finger, And what does a pick do ? Ruin Dynamics, you almost can't put Dynamics into it then, A pick is good for Rock / pop / Rhythm guitar in general.
Try search " Per-Olov Air " then you will understand what Emotion is
@zoltanicalify Their's a huge difference between a guy playing the piano Beethoven Moonlight sonate who is a 16 year old rookie, and then a 70 year old Music Conservatory educated legendary pianist.
It's not only If you play each note in the right order without missing a key, Their's a lot more to it, you make it sound like " Either you can play it OR you Cant ! "'
playing with Emotion Is the much bigger part of the puzzle then being able to play it.
@napischu how can you not see emotions??? Musicians with over the top emotions or gestures is a killer!!! Who needs all that?? Just by looking at him you can see his passion and love while playing the guitar!!! You just can't see it....!!!
@napischu I don't get you. If you want to see someone doing some weird faces then you should just watch some Mr Bean movies. If you want to listen to beautiful music then just listen. He was just very well disciplinated by his music teacher, the right thing to do when you're playing erudit music at an orchestra for example is to be neutral and try to play the song staying focused. Music is about thinking and talking with sounds, it's nothing to do with looks.
@desertodoatacama You're not a musician, are you? By emotion I'm not talking about making faces and gestures. I'm talking about playing from the heart rather than from the note sheet. This is something that comes with time and life experiences that shape you.
@napischu age kills you. age kills emotion. age kills synaptic terminals. i'd say really, young people have, more emotion and passion than anybody. you still think you can do anything, you could still invent a way to live forever or, be famous. anything. i just, disagree, that's all. i can see the point but, think the other side of the coin too..
and apart from that, what a beautiful tune and a beautiful arrangement and an amazing performance, on that we can certainly agree :)
@DOSEDcoUK Age gives life experience which helps you understand what the writer felt when he wrote the piece. This is something everyone experiences.. a better understanding in mankind and everything that surrounds it.
@greenbeaner69 Yeah, and with time you'll get a better understanding of how people feel in various situations (Because you've experienced the same) and can therefore give a more genuine emotional touch to the music you're playing.
@greenbeaner69 I'm a terrible guitarist, so there are none. But I do know a thing or two about music. You seem to be either a troll or just extremely easily provoked.
@napischu ur the one writing paragraphs. I'm an experienced guitarist who just knows a few more things about music than u do. I'm not trolling just getting my point across
@greenbeaner69 You must understand that I'm not talking about intermediate playing when I'm stating that he's got things to improve. Playing with feeling is way harder than learning to master techniques and is what separates a great musician from a true master. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about considering your superior experience.
@napischu hahahahaha great use of sarcasm. honestly I'm not trying to be a dick about it but come on man. u can't go around talking about techniques like dynamics, accents, crescendoes etc when u don't play an instrument and don't know much about music yourself. he plays the song with emotion. if you can't see it i feel bad for u. anyways I'm done arguing over youtube so don't bother replying
@greenbeaner69 I never said I'm not playing an instrument. Actually I play several instruments including guitar. I've even toured as a singer and I'm schooled in musical theory. I grew up in a family of musicians. I think I'm pretty qualified to have an opinion on the matter. You also seem to get the impression that I've only seen this video of Sungha. What I said is the impression I got from following him for several years on youtube.
@mukkohaha I'm not judging from only this video :) Just saying he's got a long way to go to be an equal to i.e Chet Atkins, Tommy Emmanuel among many others when it comes to feeling. The fact that he's this good at the age of 15 is very remarkable though.
@napischu Your absolutely right ! your a musician yourself i guess. otherwise you would not notice stuff like this. unless your a very critical listener.
He sounds to schooled, and to strict, But putting in the beautiful dynamics and tempo shifts are something you have to be extremely good to do.
And as i said before, if he would toss away those finger picks, he could have played this with much more feeling just by using his fingers. can you understand this point ?
@napischu i can play this piece myself btw, and i have to tell you it's much harder then it sounds. Perhaps he can't put feeling into it, because just playing it is hard already ?
That's why i can't put feeling into it, Just playing it is hard enough ^^
@napischu Could not agree with you more. Sungha is a terrific guitar player, and I assume the "cold" playing comes from all the discipline it takes to play like that at such a young age (I'm not talking about now, I'm referring to when he was freaking NINE). I believe that it will come with age, and while his playing lacks emotion, his age, his relentless devotion, and his humble approach (You never see him boast like most guitar players do) just win me over time and time again.

dont get me wrong, sungha is far better than i will ever be. and im sure with age will come the emotion. just my views :)
@DJInspyr Of course we all have our own views. My view though is that the whole "lack of emotion" thing is hardly a proper argument. Different people feel different (or lack thereof) emotions while listening to so-and-so play. It doesn't really matter what the player is feeling, it matters what the listener is feeling. For example, I feel extreme amounts of emotion while listening to Dr. Wily's theme from Megaman 2. However, those instruments are indeed being played by robots (synthesizers)
About practicing: These are not difficult pieces. They do not require uber skill to play. Techniquewise, this is something that's on the level of 5th grade music school. It's not somethign like fire cadenza. What matters here is if it is played with feelings. And this is something that Sungha Jung, despite his young age, can do quite well. And this is something no amount of practice will give you if you dont have it. So thumbs up.
@apoc214 Sungha's arrangement is not difficult at all, ive been trying to play this song and so far im going good, i just need more practice.. but is not hard at all you just need to focus and put some love into it :)
@leparditas before you make a stupid comment like this do you not realize that his guitar is plugged into an amp or soundboard and so there is no need to have a mic in front of the guitar? Do you not see the cord plugged into the guitar? Did you think it was just a random wire coming out of it? Maybe that isn't even a real guitar he is playing?!?! And for the record if you look at the majority of his videos you will not see a mic are you saying that every single video of his is fake?
@tellorin real guitar dont sound that big ... the fact is that they used a tons of processors on this shit including reverbs small delays exciters and a bunch of smth else just to make this kid a youtube star...
probably they even edited his performance in protools or other DAW fixed mistakes , added extra notes for harmonies ect
and mastered this shit to make it sound like somethink from other world ...
in the end its all about the money people believe what he is so good and buy stuf
@leparditas except people have tabbed out his work, played it themselves, and have seen that nothing extra was added... why're you putting sungha down when you seem to know nothing about guitar?
@pawel6693 :) Sungha's said that he practices 2 hours a day when school's in session. During vacation, he practices a little more. He spends about 2 - 3 days for a new song. Meaning any new song (not sure about cover/arrangement/composing) that's uploaded under jwcfree was practiced by Sungha for a total of about 10 hours total.
does anyone know what type of fingerpicks he's using on his fingers? not the thumb one those are usual ones, but the other ones, they look great! amazing playing like always ;D
its funny, many of the people leaving comments are basically saying he's not playing it right, yet how would any of you know what the particular arrangement of music says? Further who are any of you to say that he is playing it wrong i'm willing to bet that many of you can't even play the guitar let alone play something of this caliber. So quit hating and listen to the music.
He played it much better when he was 9...The Poison of Shitty Pop Culture has once again won out again, and depribed us of a potentially Gifted Virtuoso; it's astounding how fast they fall :(
It's sad how certain people can only think to argue on the comment board of a video with such beautiful and artistic guitar playing. Don't be so naive and simply enjoy the music. This is the 21st century, you'd think people, as a whole, would be more open minded by now.
vietnam, thiland, china etc. communist controlled robot. fuck you, the people who built the infrasturcture of the western hemisphere did it because the people of the easter hemisphere have been killing each other for eons (thats a very long time for you sideways cunt) all asians live because we, white or black persons of the western hemisphere allow it---fucking barbarian gnome idiot. And for the record if you look at the majority of his videos you will not see a mic are you saying that every single video of his is fake?
tellorin 4 months ago
@tellorin real guitar dont sound that big ... the fact is that they used a tons of processors on this shit including reverbs small delays exciters and a bunch of smth else just to make this kid a youtube star...
probably they even edited his performance in protools or other DAW fixed mistakes , added extra notes for harmonies ect
and mastered this shit to make it sound like somethink from other world ...
in the end its all about the money people believe what he is so good and buy stuf
leparditas 4 months ago
@leparditas except people have tabbed out his work, played it themselves, and have seen that nothing extra was added... why're you putting sungha down when you seem to know nothing about guitar?

pawel6693 3 months ago 126
@pawel6693 :) Sungha's said that he practices 2 hours a day when school's in session. During vacation, he practices a little more. He spends about 2 - 3 days for a new song. Meaning any new song (not sure about cover/arrangement/composing) that's uploaded under jwcfree was practiced by Sungha for a total of about 10 hours total.

i wonder how his playing will be in about 10 years...
hoangbv15 5 months ago
its funny, many of the people leaving comments are basically saying he's not playing it right, yet how would any of you know what the particular arrangement of music says?
