I've made a similar argument with people I know. I hate how Hollywood makes these cookie cutter films and always have to end on a good note. They did it with the movie Dodgeball. The original ending to Dodgeball was to have the Globogym team win. Ben Stiller even subtly bitches about that at then end just before his character sings the Milk Shake song.
@adayinthislife To be honest, it's happened already and will probably continue to happen (as much as I hate to say it). You only have to look at the many high school shootings, disgruntled office/postal workers, etc. Humans are becoming more selfish and apathetic - or maybe we've always been that way but now it's more apparent!
you can make a movie where the protagonist dies in the end and still have a good movie... uwe boll basically just stole from a better movie (falling down) and added shock value to get mindless idiots to rent his straight to dvd piece of shit film. rampage didn't go straight to dvd bc there was no audience for explosions and killing. it went straight to dvd because he is a terrible filmmaker and this was a terrible film

rampage is a very good movie, proberly the best movie boll will have made ever... so enough hating him, watch rampage and u will be "hey that was awsome",
But beware people, as we have fun in the safety of our homes we must realize thoughts are things. This movie came from the thoughts of a real person and turned it into an internationally shared reconstruction of a massacre really happening. That is quite the the dangerous thing. This could really happen, has already, and if it comes again and YOUR the one affected I'm sure this kinda shit won't be awesome anymore. So smile at the goodness of life.
I watched it yesterday and the first thought I had of why the director made this was to play off of America's obsession with violence, particularly violent video games such as GTA, Gears of War, etc, and to make people realize it's not all fun and games when this type of reality happens (Columbine). After all I did get it of PS3 netflix. Then I realized, as I have fun playing GTA I was also having fun watching this.
I kinda felt the whole time this movie was a play on peoples domestication. How people who are faced with a crisis and start running. This is one of the very reasons why our society is doomed to fail. If we want to be free we have to responsible for that freedom. This guy starts shooting people. The only people who shoot back are cops? Thats a fantasy.
He burns the fake money because he needs the real money for his "plan". Watch the end again, where he rants. He plans to cleanse society. He's going to use the money to buy more supplies to continue his "cleansing".
i liked the movie . but the only thing i would complain about is when he burnt fake money to prove his point, wouldnt he burn realy money to prove his point ?? :)
@thatasiankid45 Would you? I seem to remember him talking with his parents in the beginning of the movie about saving to pay for college, needing to move out on his own, etc. Burning the real money would probably make that difficult once again...
@thatasiankid45 No prob. I watched again myself yesterday. I like how it differs from the typical conventional movie genre of same old same old & the fact of you don't see many movies with someone gunning down random people.
He was burning "Real Money" to prove the point of his friend, the all-talk-patsy. This dude LOVED fucking money. That was kind of the whole point of the movie... But I guess all I did was just watch it and pay attention.
@thatasiankid45 He was pretending to be his friend, who would have been burning the money to make a political statement. He really wanted the money. You missed the point of his plan of blaming it on his political nutcase friend.
@thatasiankid45 He only burned the money too make them think it was devon, or whatever his name was. It was just too put blame on the other person. He probly did all this just too rob the bank and get money.
@thatasiankid45 You have to be of the right mindset to understand the movie. He didn't like people, he thought them stupid, right down to his friend. In the end, no, he didn't care about money, and no, he didn't care about people, but he can't burn all the money, and he can't kill all the people, so he had some fun, blew off some steam, and profited. You can't win in this world, but he came close.
@thatasiankid45 Wait wait wait wait, didn't he burn the money not as point, for he didn't believe any of that philosophical BS, but just to make everyone think that the real money is destroyed where in reality he has it?
That was one of the twists to the story. He wasn't making a point of his own.
His friend kept ranting about money being evil, in that restaurant, and on his video blog, so the dude with the suit made the fake money to burn to help make his friend look like the one who was in the suit. ;-)
His friend kept ranting about money being evil, in that restaurant, and on his video blog, so the dude with the suit made the fake money to burn to help make his friend look like the one who was in the suit. ;-)
@thatasiankid45 Actually, I think he burned the money not to draw attention to himself. I mean nobody would believe that he magically got rich, it would seem suspicious.
@he wanted to point the finger at his friend because his friend (evan)was the one talking about money is not everything so he burned the fake money to make it look like his friend (evan) was the one behind the killing spree
@thatasiankid45 Did you watch the entire film? Did you? Many things in life evade you, don't they? The point was made, regardless... for all intents and purposes 'the money' burned to the ground. It's about a culling of the population so the rest have some breathing room and someone taking some action, no matter how outrageous it was, as well as having a carefully laid plan for the scapegoat/martyr. P.S. He split the 'real' money between his friend "the martyr" & himself so he could disappear.
Rampage was actually a pretty bad ass film i really enjoyed it , actually shows how dum gucked up ppl think and the lengths theyd go yo fo what they think is right
I do 100% agree that screenings are a fucking cancer that I cant stand. That is why we get the same shit. It kills creative minds, and I'm stretching when I put that title on Boll, but you see in this instance he actually puts together a great filmthat would never have came to light with a traditional screening process.
if i ever saw the main character in real life...id probably punch him in the face and yell "WHY THE FUCK DID YOU LET THOSE OLD FARTS IN THE BINGO HALL LIVE, BUT KILL THE BEAUTY SALON FULL OF WOMEN?"
Rampage was a very, VERY good movie although some of Uwe Boll´s movies weren´t good. Siegburg was crap, postal was crap and so on, but Far Cry & Rampage are very good. I like them!
It's just not THAT original to make a film without a happy end... and Rampage definitely is not an original film. And Uwe Boll is definitely not the coronation of independent movie making.
@fuzzywzhe So this was your first movie without any plot, without any dialogs but with tons of violence? :-)
It's a bit of a shame, that money making businessman Uwe Boll presents himself as some kind of an outrider of independent movie making. He makes tons of pc-game-adaptions - not because he likes the games (in fact, he mentions in another interview, that he NEVER really plays), but because it's easy money. This has nothing to do with independent movie making. This is pure commerce.
@BatOtaku13 People were excited for what M. Night was doing. Then look. One good movie is luck and Rampage was NOT good. It wasn't a movie, but his fantasy of killing everyone who wronged him.
I'd talk about why I think Rampage is a load of garbage but I'm afraid the people who actually like it will hunt me down and shoot me.
But they'd be justified in doing that I guess, because of, like, the economy and, stuff.... and I didn't make their coffee with the right amount of foam - Unforgivable, I deserve to die!!
Aaaah, Uwe Boll, my dear compatriot and god awful freak of nature. "Ich hasse Dich, Du blödes Arschloch." Hah! That'll show him... bastard...
Still, I'm gonna give the fine doctor one last chance by watching "Rampage". Of course it won't redeem all his past fuck-ups, but maybe he's actually off to a new start. We shall see.
The problem is people see people getting gunned down, and immediately throwback to societies expectations of such murderous acts. They rant that it's wrong, and refuse to even think about the real message being portrayed in this movie. It's a shame, and I'm not really surprised people refused to even review this movie out of fear. This is an important movie for our time. Maybe 50+ years from now people will begin respecting it to a larger degree.
@TheThunderhammer The shame here is that people like you like to rationalize the importance of mass murder. Ya I get pissed off at the world, but Im not a self centered jerk like you who thinks they are the only one entitled to be a victim and no one else so its everyone else that gets to be punished. Give me an f'n break.
At first I thought I would hate the movie. Then I started to understand the rage behind it actually began to agree with him. Didn't agree with the killing spree. Just agreed with the emotion.
Forced birth control might be a better option, heh
Rampage is the one movie that when after watching it, I would watch it again. I didn't like the way they used the cameras, but it makes up for it by not being like all the other BS movies that are completly unrealistic.
The movie was straight badass and it is a great watch when you're the complete opposite of sober.
@ookami500 Then why don't you shoot yourself in the head and end it all if you are so into this kind of thing. Oh wait. You won't, because you and a lot of others like you are cowards who want to dwell in their own self centered self pitying and never considered how anyone else is a victim. Whawaawaa.
when i saw Seed it's like he read my mind about writing about a super psycho killer character. The news clippings ruled... 666 people killed hehe Max strikes again!
He is saying just what I have been thinking about movies nowadays.
They are all the same formula over and over again and it is just getting tedious.
I watched rampage and though it did seem a lil extreme it was daring and that's one of the aspects I liked about it. It shocked the hell out of me and made me think which is one thing most "Hollywood" movies seem to purposly lack these days.
We both have two completely opposite opinions of this movie, which is fine; You could have completely skipped the entire first 20-30 minutes of the useless dialogue and headed straight to the time where he started building his armor. The coffee shop, the work place or the chicken coup is by far a terrible back story into why he went insane. Why did he massacre the entire town? Why did he make a speech about corporate cash. None of these were answered in the film.
Uwe Boll is full of shit...he's as independent as a crackhead...
Just because no studios want to produce him anymore, he thinks he's independent...as if he makes something shocking and edgy then he'll catch the attention of hollywood again.
He's so full of shit, he wouldn't know an independent film if he walked in on it fucking his mom.
fucking asshole in crowd, thinking he is all badass for stepping up to uwe boll who has done such crap films...PLEASE, yes he sucked on other films but you CANNOT DENY that Rampage was a good ass movie...
@daft9punk Rampage fucking sucked bro.... 40-50 minutes of absolute USELESS dialogue that made no sense or had anything to do with the story at all. The only decent (because it sucked so bad that I found it funny) was the 76 recorded kills he had (not counting the other 100 that died from a gasoline nuke -_-). The filming could have been done by some man with turrets and no one would have been able to tell the difference; he's THAT bad.
@BigManInCanada I just watched the film on Netflix. It was only around 15-20 minutes before the action started. And while it was a bit boring, it was a necessary build-up in order to understand the character.
@TheInfiniator I suggest you watch it again, There isn't any character development until around 30 minutes into the film (Do not say him being in that fast food joint was him developing...) Then once the killing was over, it was another 15-20 minutes of just useless filler dialogue ... But I rather enjoyed the killing scenes though, they were funny :-P
@BigManInCanada You said there was "40-50 minutes of useless dialogue." The beginning shows us how crazy the dude really is. Whereas regular people would be extremely upset about the incidents at the coffee and burger places, he actually wanted to kill those people. His parents suck, they don't care about anything. His friend is a pompous idiot. The whole world pisses him off, because he's nuts. Everything leading up to the action was needed.
@TheInfiniator Additonally, what useless dialogue occurred after the action? He comes home with the money and talks to his parents for about two minutes. Again, they're so full of themselves that they don't even take the massacre seriously. And then it cuts to the video he made for about another two minutes.
@BigManInCanada do u hate movies with subtitles too? The dialouge was trying to express his everyday life. Life is boring and mundane. Then feed a bunch of killing on the news. It makes total sense and it needed to be in the movie to set the tone of his rampage. Sit there sober and watch it.
@TheLeathershadow I don't like movies where the subtitles are unnecessary, yes. Well he did a hell of a job throwing out how boring his life is, almost made me fall asleep watching it. You are talking to a Canadian, no way in hell I can sit still and stay sober *wink*
@daft9punk No it wasn't a good movie. It was amatuer. Shaky cam fail on all parts. Also, 50 minutes of killing innocence doesn't make for a real/good film.
@daft9punk He kills a bunch of people predicated on a bad coffee drink, water in his salad and the fact he has to move out of his parents house. He SAYS overpopulation, but he kills all those people and pins it on his friend who has philosophies he disagrees with. He kept saying no one did anything, and after all those people died, he made it look like HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING. The movie has glaring moral and plot holes. The main character has no spine in the movie, so why should I empathize ?
@Rawr5649 The problem with people like you is that you try and rational everything. The guy is crazy, psychotic. Do you think there are explanations for the things that Charles Manson did? Look at the Charles Manson interviews, He brings up good points... but the guy is nuts! Yes I know technically Manson didn't kill people, but you get my point. The character hates people in general. The movie was amazing and original, go watch your chick flicks and stfu if you don't like this style
@25bjeff so you're saying you enjoy movies of a random guy just walking around killing people. Why not just play grand theft auto? How did this guy afford his invinc-i-suit by working for low pay as an auto mechanic. I mean, he couldn't even afford his own apartment. In the movie, he didn't want to seem nuts at all, he had been planning this out for awhile. He ordered macciados, which are a bitch drink. 2 shots of espresso with a dab of foam. I'm a huge fan of the genre, and this movie sucked.
@Rawr5649 I enjoy movies that make you think. Which is exactly what this film did. It was different, shocking, and thought provoking. My friends and I were discussing this for a while after it was done. How did he afford the suit when he couldn't afford an apartment? Did the thought that he couldn't afford an apartment cause of the suit ever occur to you? I bet not dumbass lol. What does a COFFEE drink have to do with anything, HE'S CRAZY!
@25bjeff this movie made you think? End of argument. You need to expand your repertoire. There is a reason actors refuse to read for his movies. That suit would have cost him 10s of thousands of dollars if you include the truck full of explosives. You enjoy Uwe Boll movies and they make you "think" I'm not the dumb ass here.
AMG HE'S CRAZY (waves arms) this movie sucked and you should feel bad about "thinking" about it Uwe Boll sucks. You probably love Michael Bay movies too
@Rawr5649 Guy gets mad about water in his salad, and coffee drink. He gets mad. Guy devises plan to kill a bunch of innocent people on loose morals. Guy kills people. Guy pins it on a friend who's morals he didn't agree with. Roll credits. What a mind bender
@Redrik666 I spent over an hour watching the movie trying to give Uwe Boll, one of the most universally disliked directors on the planet, another chance. Cringeworthy. 90% of the people who enjoyed it just like gratuitous violence. Sad that he won that crowd over so easily with such loose ethics.
If you think this movie was about violence you sir are a moron.
And if you are a movie critic just stop.
This movie is about how some guy flips out because of current US society.
You can see how angry he punches the bag when listening on the news about yet another oil spill.
In his mind all those innocent people are immoral because they all care just about the money they spend money on the shit they dont need, they pollute etc...
@1DarkMasK1 yeah it's "Society" like how society has crumbled down so far that water got in his salad, or how society is so bad now that people can't even make a proper macchiato, which by the way he asks for wrong. Who wouldn't want to kill hundreds of people because their parents want them to move out or they didn't get the raise they wanted. The guy's a fucking cry baby and the violence is the showcase. If you think anything else, you're really easy to entertain.
Yeah And in Real Life Eric and Dylan killed bunch of kids because they call them fags couple of times even when they didnt kill the ones who call them that.
Like I said before you are a moron in your world all shool shootings happen because everyone is a crybaby right?
@daft9punk Rampage was terrible. I watched it on free netflix a month or so ago, and it was so bad it pissed me off. The plot has more holes than the people he shot. If I'm going to watch a guy go nuts and kill a bunch of innocent people minding their own business, I've got to be invested in his reasoning. His reasoning is loose, and he pins the killings on a guy whos philosophy he despises. So why bother in the first place? He's not going to get credit. there is no message from him.
Uwe Boll needs to stop comparing his "movies" to hollywood movies. Technically, I guess he makes independent movies, but It's not like he made all those badly adapted video game movies for art. Licensed movies usually break even on the popularity of the license alone, regardless of how bad the movie is.
And at least hollywood actually makes a few decent movies, and they don't look like some angry foreign guy directed it and missed the entire point of the source material it's based on.
Love it,how he speaks of a serious issue goin on in the industry, been hapoening sinc the late 90's from what ive seen. Phoenix is a prime example.

So smile at the goodness of life.
kegmaj 1 year ago
I watched it yesterday and the first thought I had of why the director made this was to play off of America's obsession with violence, particularly violent video games such as GTA, Gears of War, etc, and to make people realize it's not all fun and games when this type of reality happens (Columbine). After all I did get it of PS3 netflix. Then I realized, as I have fun playing GTA I was also having fun watching this.
kegmaj 1 year ago
I kinda felt the whole time this movie was a play on peoples domestication. How people who are faced with a crisis and start running. This is one of the very reasons why our society is doomed to fail. If we want to be free we have to responsible for that freedom. This guy starts shooting people. The only people who shoot back are cops? Thats a fantasy.

He burns the fake money because he needs the real money for his "plan". Watch the end again, where he rants. He plans to cleanse society. He's going to use the money to buy more supplies to continue his "cleansing".

@thatasiankid45 Would you? I seem to remember him talking with his parents in the beginning of the movie about saving to pay for college, needing to move out on his own, etc. Burning the real money would probably make that difficult once again...

He was burning "Real Money" to prove the point of his friend, the all-talk-patsy. This dude LOVED fucking money. That was kind of the whole point of the movie... But I guess all I did was just watch it and pay attention.
BobbyHacker 1 year ago 2
@thatasiankid45 He was pretending to be his friend, who would have been burning the money to make a political statement. He really wanted the money. You missed the point of his plan of blaming it on his political nutcase friend.
DannyBoyo68 1 year ago
@thatasiankid45 He only burned the money too make them think it was devon, or whatever his name was. It was just too put blame on the other person. He probly did all this just too rob the bank and get money.
xxghostxxihmxx 1 year ago
@thatasiankid45 You have to be of the right mindset to understand the movie. He didn't like people, he thought them stupid, right down to his friend. In the end, no, he didn't care about money, and no, he didn't care about people, but he can't burn all the money, and he can't kill all the people, so he had some fun, blew off some steam, and profited. You can't win in this world, but he came close.

@heyufool1
That was one of the twists to the story. He wasn't making a point of his own.
His friend kept ranting about money being evil, in that restaurant, and on his video blog, so the dude with the suit made the fake money to burn to help make his friend look like the one who was in the suit. ;-)

pedrouceta6687 6 months ago
@thatasiankid45 Did you watch the entire film? Did you? Many things in life evade you, don't they? The point was made, regardless... for all intents and purposes 'the money' burned to the ground. It's about a culling of the population so the rest have some breathing room and someone taking some action, no matter how outrageous it was, as well as having a carefully laid plan for the scapegoat/martyr. P.S. He split the 'real' money between his friend "the martyr" & himself so he could disappear.

He makes polarising movies to make money, not to be an independent movie maker. He would work for every major studio if they would let him.
Like calvin said: "If you can't win by reason, go for volume!" - just replace "reason" with "quality" and "volume" with "violence".
But he knows how to make money and if you find that an admirable characteristic, then go for him!

He is saying just what I have been thinking about movies nowadays.
They are all the same formula over and over again and it is just getting tedious.
I watched rampage and though it did seem a lil extreme it was daring and that's one of the aspects I liked about it. It shocked the hell out of me and made me think which is one thing most "Hollywood" movies seem to purposly lack these days.
rattlehead66666 1 year ago
We both have two completely opposite opinions of this movie, which is fine; You could have completely skipped the entire first 20-30 minutes of the useless dialogue and headed straight to the time where he started building his armor. The coffee shop, the work place or the chicken coup is by far a terrible back story into why he went insane. Why did he massacre the entire town? Why did he make a speech about corporate cash. None of these were answered in the film.

daft9punk 1 year ago 31
@daft9punk Rampage fucking sucked bro.... 40-50 minutes of absolute USELESS dialogue that made no sense or had anything to do with the story at all. The only decent (because it sucked so bad that I found it funny) was the 76 recorded kills he had (not counting the other 100 that died from a gasoline nuke -_-). The filming could have been done by some man with turrets and no one would have been able to tell the difference; he's THAT bad.
BigManInCanada 1 year ago
@BigManInCanada I just watched the film on Netflix. It was only around 15-20 minutes before the action started. And while it was a bit boring, it was a necessary build-up in order to understand the character.
TheInfiniator 1 year ago
@TheInfiniator I suggest you watch it again, There isn't any character development until around 30 minutes into the film (Do not say him being in that fast food joint was him developing...) Then once the killing was over, it was another 15-20 minutes of just useless filler dialogue ... But I rather enjoyed the killing scenes though, they were funny :-P
BigManInCanada 1 year ago
@BigManInCanada You said there was "40-50 minutes of useless dialogue." The beginning shows us how crazy the dude really is. Whereas regular people would be extremely upset about the incidents at the coffee and burger places, he actually wanted to kill those people. His parents suck, they don't care about anything. His friend is a pompous idiot. The whole world pisses him off, because he's nuts. Everything leading up to the action was needed.
TheInfiniator 1 year ago
@TheInfiniator Additonally, what useless dialogue occurred after the action? He comes home with the money and talks to his parents for about two minutes. Again, they're so full of themselves that they don't even take the massacre seriously. And then it cuts to the video he made for about another two minutes.
TheInfiniator 1 year ago
@BigManInCanada do u hate movies with subtitles too? The dialouge was trying to express his everyday life. Life is boring and mundane. Then feed a bunch of killing on the news. It makes total sense and it needed to be in the movie to set the tone of his rampage. Sit there sober and watch it.
TheLeathershadow 1 year ago

Rawr5649 1 year ago
@Rawr5649 The problem with people like you is that you try and rational everything. The guy is crazy, psychotic. Do you think there are explanations for the things that Charles Manson did? Look at the Charles Manson interviews, He brings up good points... but the guy is nuts! Yes I know technically Manson didn't kill people, but you get my point. The character hates people in general. The movie was amazing and original, go watch your chick flicks and stfu if you don't like this style
25bjeff 11 months ago
@25bjeff so you're saying you enjoy movies of a random guy just walking around killing people. Why not just play grand theft auto? How did this guy afford his invinc-i-suit by working for low pay as an auto mechanic. I mean, he couldn't even afford his own apartment. In the movie, he didn't want to seem nuts at all, he had been planning this out for awhile. He ordered macciados, which are a bitch drink. 2 shots of espresso with a dab of foam. I'm a huge fan of the genre, and this movie sucked.
Rawr5649 11 months ago
@Rawr5649 I enjoy movies that make you think. Which is exactly what this film did. It was different, shocking, and thought provoking. My friends and I were discussing this for a while after it was done. How did he afford the suit when he couldn't afford an apartment? Did the thought that he couldn't afford an apartment cause of the suit ever occur to you? I bet not dumbass lol. What does a COFFEE drink have to do with anything, HE'S CRAZY!
25bjeff 11 months ago
@25bjeff this movie made you think? End of argument. You need to expand your repertoire. There is a reason actors refuse to read for his movies.
