No. The adult cat is a male, and isn't responding to the kitten because cats do not have "families" that include the father. If it were the mother cat, she would have attacked whoever was holding her kitten.
Momma Cat won't recognize its kid if you touch it after they are born, they smell different from the natural oils on your hands D: Hope you're bottle feeding it :c
I think your tabby has some Egyptian Mau. As for handling the kittens too often and the mother rejecting not so. A first time mother cat could reject that kitten knowing something is wrong with it, or just doesn't know how . I have been around cats all my life, and its encouragement given to the mother, but if you move the kittens too much, she will find a more quiet spot to put them in. THAT you don't want to happen, you would be amazed where mom cats try to hide the kids.
@LEGOswimmer You also have to keep in mind you could make the kitten sick if you are sick. Thus the mother rejecting the kitten. SO keep those "paws" of yours clean. :) Also the kitten can be born with Leukemia if the mother has it, and the immune system of the kitten is not strong. Thus rejection of the kitten. Again encouraging the mother that everything is okay, and she trusts you is a good way to start, but hovering and consistant touching of the kitten is not highly advised.
@starcatcher3333 ok, i see where your coming from now, you just said "you cant touch kittens if they are too small." you left out the sick part. i would never touch a kitten if i were sick! i volunteer at a cat shelter so i know i thing or two about kittens too. washing hands is top priority.
@LEGOswimmer I always waited until they were one or two months old. I cannot stress enough, keep your hands clean before and after picking the kitten/s up. Sigh...I should have been a vet.
@starcatcher3333 i hadcats and kittens my whole life,i can assure u that u can touch the kittens since the first day, actually its very important do touch them as soo as possible to make them as tame as possible.if u dont touch them for the first 7 weeks they wont probably be particularly friendly with humans
I haven't been around cats near as much. But one time I took in a nice feral cat who had her kittens in the winter. After I picked them up to put them inside of the house, the mother /did/ reject them. I think that had a lot to do with her being feral. I was lucky in that case though. I got a dry towel and rubbed her down with it, and then rubbed down the kittens blending their scents. After a few hours she came back and let them nurse again. Whew!
Oh so cute!!I have a spotted tabby too :) But you know, you shouldn´t touch kittens so small, if the mother doesn´t recognize their smell afterwards she might reject or even hurt them if she feels her other kittens are threatened...
@LaChatteGrise We've had lots and lots of kittens over the years, and with each one we've always picked up the kittens to look them over and check for fleas and other problems, and also to get them used to humans very early. If at first you pick it up for about a minute in full view of the mother cat, put it back and walk away for a while before doing it again, the mother becomes used to it and realises you're not going to hurt the kittens. Eventually you can carry it around in a pocket.
Oh so cute!!I have a spotted tabby too :) But you know, you shouldn´t touch kittens so small, if the mother doesn´t recognize their smell afterwards they might reject or even hurt them...
Little kittens often will mew and sometimes make a chirping noise when they are unsure of their surroundings, and they want their mother (mamma) cat. Our cat Peaches, has 4 baby manx kittens, and if she hears them crying for her, she comes running in fast to see why they are crying.
If she hears kittens on TV, she starts pacing around the room, and looks for the kitten that she hears on TV (or computer).
When she calls her kittens, it's either a loud mewing (cry) or a trilling noise (urrrk).
We have four tabby cats that used to live in our house with us but my mom kicked them out because they kept ripping up the furniture n chet. LOL but i ocasionaly sneek one in. Aha

Tambellina985 - I agree. That was cruel to do to the kitten and to the mother. In fact, at the very end of the video you can hear another cat and it sounds angry. Probably the agitated mother trying to get to the kitty. Was she locked up in the pet carrier? I hope to Hell not.
I once tried something similar with my family's old ginger tomcat and a new born kitten that was dumped on us. The tomcat tried to eat it! Needless to say, we kept them away from each other until the kitten had grown up a little...
This is so funny how that cat walks away and meows at the end after the kitten does. But if that big tabby was my old Thomas, he would probably be like, "What the heck..."
I thought he was going to eat him. :/
