go to a town or island such as lbi and go to a store called wave hog and a good board wud be either a zap or a victoria or an exile. any of those depending on how big u are wud cost 100-175$ but a wooden board which i wud suggest u start with wud cost about 20$ or 30$

just practice timiong when the water starts retarcting is usually when u want to start running for the wave thats the best way to learn then u can start to feel the timing more precise when ur getting better
