just a suggestion, I can't tell for shure in the vid but it looks like you need to put a sleeve on the tip of your cymbal stand. If you don't have one it will cause 'keyholing' and ruin the shape of the hole in the cymbal. You can buy them ,or buy some plastic tubingat Home depot. and just cut off a piece, cheaper
Hey I have a question, does Zildjian make a 18 inch crash from the 60's? I just bought one and I wasnt sure if it was a crash or a ride/crash and the guy told me it was just a crash. Sorry not educated in the vintage stuff by Zildjian
Old As dont sell for as much as you would think. The Ks are much more expensive. How much you could get for it depends on the weight, size, stamp date, and condition.
I picked up a vintage zildjian ride (it's a 22' sizzle) that was laying around at my school but it has cracks in it....do you think zildjian will fix the cracks for me if I sent it in?
i hate zildjian because they are over priced and they just dont put the care and attention in to making there cymbals that i have seen and heard from sabian or paiste they just seem about the cash ok but they dont seem to care about the person buying the cymbal i am talking from personal use i went through 4 pairs of zildjian hi hats zht z custom zxt a custom i did not care for any of them and got 1 pair of sabian aa hi hats and loved them i also had the the same thing with crash cymabals.
Not to sound like Martin Luther King, but you should look at (play) and hear the "content of each CAST cymbal's character, rather than painting a whole company with a broad brush."
Nowhere in that statement did you mention the family. Now you do. Most people tend to define "sellout" as a cheaper lower quality product. Did KZ Istanbul ever produce a machine hammered cymbal? NOPE! Did KZ Istanbul have a variety of cymbal models to cover all types of music? NOPE. A Z and Sabian did and do have the variety to satisfy any musical style a drummer plays.
do I know the difference? yes I know the difference. Some people also call the German style cymbals sheet metal. but as you will find the only cymbal style that are actually cast are Italian style cymbals. and just an effort to let you know zildjian also makes non-cast cymbals, and meinl makes cast cymbals. and just because a cymbal is non-cast doesn't mean it will be like every other cymbal of it's kind. zildjian are just not my kind of cymbal. i prefer meinl. that's all.
The non-cast cymbals Zildjian and Sabian make are budget student model cymbals. You are totally wrong in saying that Zildjian and Sabian do not make cast cymbals. Your lack of knowledge is becoming VERY obvious now. These 2 companies CAST cymbals begin with B20 bronze INGOTS which are CAST. Before you post anymore, I suggest you research the process in which they are made. This information is easily available.
i never said once that zildjian doesn't make cast cymbals. i just said they also make non-cast cymbals. plus i've looked up the process before. but i don't care how a cymbal is made (cast or non-cast) my requirements are durability and sound. that's it. and i prefer meinl. i'm not trying to start a brand vs. brand argument. because i do like the k customs zildjian makes. but overall i just prefer meinl, that doesn't mean i hate zildjian.
What you said was ..."the only cymbal style that are actually cast are Italian style cymbals."
Since Zildjian and Sabian are not "Italian style" but in fact originating in Turkey in the year 1623, the inference you made was obvious. Could you please define "Italian Style"? Are you of the belief that in the year 1623 the 1st Zildjian cymbals were inspired by cymbals made BEFORE that year in Italy? Tell me where I can find THAT information. Please back up what you say with a reference.
Connor, you did your homework. I am impressed. However, As Hugo Pinksterboer ALSO explains, it comes down to semantics. Italian style cymbals look somewhat like a cymbal after the mold is opened. The ingot from Zildjian and Sabian are cast, then it is fed through rollers many times, each time in a different way as the thickness is rolled thinner and thinner. After the bell is formed by machine press (by hammers in earlier times) then the metal is hammered and lathed.
Fact is, you will find more musically usable Turkish style cymbals than Italian style. It wasn't that long ago that most all of Meinl's cyms sounded very bad. Another thing, why would durability be so important to you? If mounted and played correctly (after selecting the right type of cymbal for the job) then you should not have any problems whatsoever. Breakage almost always occurs from user error.
Yes 80, I have always liked cast bronze cymbals much better. Specifically a "bell bronze" called B20 bronze (20% tin) which are made in "ingots" that both Zildjian and Sabian (and many other companies) use. There are traces of other metals as well in that alloy. (silver for instance) There are so many variations sound-wise with this type of cymbal that the artist can truly get his/her own identifiable sound from them. A great example of this would be with old K Zildjian Istanbul cymbals.
well the zht and zxt arent the best cymbols u should try k custom a custom or z or thier new hybrid line a mixture of k custom{jazz cymbol} and z cymbols{metal cymbols}
Zildjian has a formula of metal alloys that is very expensive by itself, copper, silver, bronze, and titanium are very expensive. The prices of things are getting higher these days. and zildjian has more experience over sabians and paistes, zildjian has started in 1623 and what Sabian like 1984? So zildjians are better.ZBT'S ,Z CUSTOM, AND ZXTS are just b8 bronze cymbals, they have a higher pitch,so go wtih A's or a customs.Go with Zildjian.
hey relax man ok i am just talking from what has happened to me when i got zildjians i use sabians now i lke them alot more i dont like zildjian its just how i feel
Dude, you talk like there are no other good cymbals. For instance, I think that Paiste's alright, I mean, Signature's awesome, 2oo2's are one of the best, Signature Traditionals are great for jazz, Twenty's perfect for fusion, Alpha's great for Metal. Even PST5 sounds normally. and who cares when was Paiste founded? If they can make good cymbals, then it's completely okay with me.
Hey cool cymbal..if I may..what do you think an old 1960's Avedis crash would be like? Do you think it may go well w/ my Armand 18 thin and 20" armand ride? they said it is 4.5lbs..its for sale
i am looking to invest in some cymbals from the avedis series. I am an amatuer but my skills are growing daily. Could you please recomend me some cymbals (looking for a crash and ride-- i just got a pretty good hihat).
@cheeseplayswii Avedis medium ride is specific - not many people would like it. A custom ride would be better. Check out also Crash of Doom. Works cool as ride, but it is a bit specific. If you have k custom hi-hat, A's and Avedis' may not match it.
@cheeseplayswii I would personally Recommend Zildjian A New Beat Hi Hat's 14" , Zildjian 19" K Custom Hybrid Crash, and Zildjian 22" K Custom Dark Ride. I know they arent all from Avedis Zildjian line but I find these cymbals better.
you should've used some mics so this didn't totally sound like shit.
