  • Why cant the barbies we have now be this cool?

  • Back then people actually took pride in their work. Thats why they look cooler and better than the ones they make now.

  • @vbuttons

Also because airtime costs money so as it's a long commercial the made it shorter by having her speak faster

Also it drills it into ur skull.... for example I want a Barbie with the 'new Barbie look'

    And i'm 15

    x

I think you got a future working for Mattel... well, I have very much enjoyed all your vintage videos...thank you for posting them.... I never saw old Barbie commercials before...it was fun watching....smile.

  • I had that Barbie doll! She cracked so much when you bent the legs. They should've called her Arthritic Barbie!

  • You can tell its Mattel, Its swell! :) I <3 this!

  • hope they can make all the barbie doll move like that!

  • Damn, that was a lot of words to spit out in one minute.. that lady should consider a career as a rapper.

  • holy crap they look different then :P hehe

  • So catchy!

  • it almost sounded like a rap... someone should redo this lol

  • omg they don't have the barbie like that now they can't sit down in chairs!!!

  • Love the song, its so catchy!

  • Is that a . . . RAP?!

  • Woweeeee please let me know where i can get this clip it is sooooo much fun.thanks !

  • clever and catchy song.....

  • The first Barbie came out in 1959.

These dolls with bend legs came out in 1965.

  • I always loved this clip, very fun, zany and 60's kitch! Oh to find a original AG bend leg Barbie like in the commercial...back then only $3 or $4...now I would have to shell out $300+ for a good one. The ad is wonderful and glad to see it on here.

  • This is cool. :) I always wondered around what time did the bendable legs come out.

  • barbies sure have changed,

  • I LOVE THIS COMMERCIAL!

My mom still has her old skipper doll and on VERY rare ocassions I even play with them (haven't a couple years tho)

  • I'm guessing it was between 1962 and 1964...

My sister had that Ken doll shown, at that time. Hah, the ad doesn't talk about how if you bent the leg of the Barbie forward instead of backward that the joint broke and/or if you bent the legs too much they clicked and evenutally wouldn't stay in place (I always imagined little sprockets inside holding the legs bent !) FUN to see this ad. Thanks for posting it.

  • ok, look at the before and after with the hair!! haha, daaaaang!

  • lets see its all barbie teressa or kelly no ken skipper orned WHY? oh and they look the same to me!

  • Fabulous! I wish I could remember when these commercials were originally aired.

  • I love this commercial

  • thats my mom!!!! did you know that!..you guys dont ebliev me dont you...it is my mom that was when she was nine!

  • sure it is

  • Really? That is so cool!!! She was lucky!

  • you can tell its metel its swell

  • I had a skipper, omg! What happened to her?

  • What a swingin' commercial! (The beat of the chant sort of reminded me of part of "The Music Man.")

First they got the bend legs, then the twist-n-turn body a couple of years later...that is, Barbie and Skipper got the Twist-n-Turn waists; Midge and Alan got dumped, and Ken went on hiatus for awhile first I believe...

  • No matter what I do in my life, I know I will never be able to generate as much excitement as this commercial.

  • what a great quote =)

  • LOVE, LOVE LOVE this Barbie doll commercial. I'm a collector of these dolls and these commercials had a cool simple elegant style thats classic. And the woman doing the "rap" is GREAT! Wonderful commercial.

  • The rhyming is annoying but the commercial is otherwise cool! The girl with the glasses and blonde pigtails almost looks like what would later become the P.J. doll. (Except P.J. didn't wear glasses, but DID have sunglasses with round frames similar to what the girl's wearing.)

  • barbie is the only doll diva, she is unique!!

  • This is the best Barbie Commercial!!!!

  • My mom had a barbie like that actually she had 12 when she was little and when i turned 5 i got all her babrbies and they look exactly like that

  • Barbie is my best friend too :)
