omg when did they stop using the you can tell it is mattel it's swell thing if they still used it it would prob be you can tell it's mattel it is hot lol
hi BarbieCollectors, wow impressive video collection...and you say you are only 14...wow... if you don't mind me saying... I think you got a future working for Mattel... well, I have very much enjoyed all your vintage videos...thank you for posting them.... I never saw old Barbie commercials before...it was fun watching....smile.
I always loved this clip,very fun,zany and 60's kitch! Oh to find a original AG bend leg Barbie like in the commercial...back then only $3 or $4...now I would have to shell out $300+ for a good one. The ad is wonderful and glad to see it on here.
My sister had that Ken doll shown, at that time. Hah, the ad doesn't talk about how if you bent the leg of the Barbie forward instead of backward that the joint broke and/or if you bent the legs too much they clicked and evenutally wouldn't stay in place (I always imagined little sprockets inside holding the legs bent !) FUN to see this ad. Thanks for posting it.
What a swingin' commercial! (The beat of the chant sort of reminded me of part of "The Music Man.")
First they got the bend legs, then the twist-n-turn body a couple of years later...that is, Barbie and Skipper got the Twist-n-Turn waists; Midge and Alan got dumped, and Ken went on hiatus for awhile first I believe...
LOVE, LOVE LOVE this Barbie doll commercial. I'm a collector of these dolls and these commercials had a cool simple elegant style thats classic. And the woman doing the "rap" is GREAT! Wonderful commercial.
The rhyming is annoying but the commercial is otherwise cool! The girl with the glasses and blonde pigtails almost looks like what would later become the P.J. doll. (Except P.J. didn't wear glasses, but DID have sunglasses with round frames similar to what the girl's wearing.)
Why cant the barbies we have now be this cool?
AlphaStatus90 1 year ago 41
Back then people actually took pride in their work. Thats why they look cooler and better than the ones they make now.
irockursocks62 1 year ago 48
@vbuttons
Also because airtime costs money so as it's a long commercial the made it shorter by having her speak faster
Also it drills it into ur skull.... for example I want a Barbie with the 'new Barbie look'
And i'm 15
