What is really awesome is that Duncan Phillips wasn't even the original drummer until 1997. He was their bassist and keyboardist! Peter Furler was the original drummer until he took over lead vocalist duties.
I saw them during the Go tour and the spinning drums were impressive, regardless of who did it first or who did it best. One thing the others probably can't say is that they built the rig themselves, like Duncan did with his own hands. Now that's cool.

The Newsboys were already doing things like this in the 80s, and Slipknot didn't have their debut album until 1998. I have all of Slipknot's CDs and none of the Newsboys' albums, so I am not at all biased - Just the facts. ;)

I went and saw them at the 2008 King's Island Spirit Song. They were awesome. It was my first concert and it was awesome. Casting Crowns and The David Craowder band were also awesome.

I see it as a great symbol of his talent as a drummer, as well, that he can keep his composure during such a stunt, and never falter on one single beat. Old or new trick, it's still cool. :)
