  • @mrjordanwell I quoted the show Archer for that comment, pull the board you broke in karate class out of your ass, geez. If I had the time to study an art, it would be either Krav Maga or Jeet Kune Do.

  • @meaneyedcats Karate? The Dane Cook of martial arts?

  • @TheBoogeyman1313 Karate is an amazing martial art, I learn Krav Maga, HapKiDo and I hope to learn Bu Jitsu and Aikido.

Karate is a great martial art, albeit watered down.

  • @TheBoogeyman1313 tell me what your ``martial`` expertise

  • Is this offered as a proof of concept based on the movie, or as a real world defense technique? A few thoughts...you are responsible for every bullet that comes out of your gun, whether it hits its intended target or not...as such, those wide sweeping movements seem imprudent...also there is shooting from retention as well...in such a scenario it does not make tactical sense to extend the weapon when it can be fired close to the body.

  • Both participants have an interest in maintaining control of their weapon while keeping the opponent's gun aimed away from themselves. That lends itself to a fight that goes like what you see, where two skilled opponents attempt to balance the positions of their gun and their opponent's gun until one maneuvers into an optimal position. You dodge a bullet by not being where the gun is aimed and getting in close allows control on the levels required, as our highly choreographed example shows.

  • wow people get seriously offended with this gun kata stuff. Hey retards, people are just having fun playing around with it. I'm talking to you meaneyedcats, atter0 and others' comments i didn't bother to read.

  • @holymcshizlet

Because they appear to be doing it like they seriously think its good training for self defense.

  • Anyone who tries to pull this off in a real gunfight deserves everything he gets and more. It's crap like this that gives real karate a bad name.

  • Possibly the gayest fan boy mockery ive ever seen. Cock the wrist and shoot him already

  • Why's that dude wearing a motorcycle helmet?

  • this is stupid hold the ohters guys wrist witrh one hand and shoot him in the stomach with the ohter...if any of you have ever held a gun it would be clear to you.

  • The only way this would be more awesome would be if they should given the participants pantball guns and make this an actually sport!

  • yeah, but like karate this would be shit in a real life encounter. like karate this only works if the person your fighting is also useing the same style as you.

  • 0:10

    Bang. Shot to the torso.

  • Oh, for fucks sake... This is so ridiculous. BTW gun is almost useless against an aggressive person at that distance anyway, even if he had no special training.

  • This is not gunkata. This is QCC the japanese police and army use.

  • I want to see it with airsoft pistols...

  • Slightly less impressive than I was hoping...

  • That would be a fun thing to learn, no body would be able to stop you from taking their gun away from you within close quarters

  • Wait, the guy with the black belt, what martial art does he teach. (...or has gun kata really been around that long for it to have masters and such)

  • @Densetsu004 this is a karate class that teaches something similar to gun kata, never mind been around long enough, gun kata isn't a martial art at all

  • WTF? You actually train for that useless stuff? Oh well, people know how to make the best use of their time...

  • @arekuso78 They were probably just doing it for fun.

  • Lol, its Kali

  • lord...don't watch movies and be like "Oh shit I can so do that"

  • Cracked anyone

  • @justinhillary2010

    Yep :D

  • Why is one guy in a helmet?

  • If I stand more than 3 meters away?...

  • geeks

  • read up on Bat Masterson 19th century gunfighter

  • why do they always aim for the head?

  • this actually looks more like dancing than fighting to me

  • @DarkGezeugs thats because your stupid.

  • @L1MB091 more likely it's because i do fighting and dancing and this definitely is closer to a dance (which doesn't mean it'S bad, though) however, the complete absence of any intellectual content in your answer suggests arguing with you is useless anyway

  • @DarkGezeugs My apologies. It is Kali.

  • I'd make a killin bettin on the fact the real life gun kata spectators won't make it home alive

  • Original gun Fu master.. Indiana jones

  • Ok, in addition to not standing within arm's reach, SHOOT THE BASTARD FIRST. If you can't kill him, SHOOT HIM IN THE PELVIS.

  • @pavo6503 The whole point of gun kata is sticking clear of the traditional trajectory of return fire. The whole point is that regardless of the distance, you're not gonna get close to the guy.

  • I'd love to watch this just as long as it's not Live Ammo Exercises Day.

  • How to defeat this technique: DO NOT STAND WITHIN ARM'S REACH OF YOUR TARGET.

  • @pavo6503 true but as soon as both of you are out of arms reach you are both open to get shot.. If you can avoid the gun being pointed at you or better yet disarm thats all the better.. I'm not saying this demenstration is practical but if you get in an altercation while your firearm is still on your side or something of that sort and it is close range then having a little knowlage and practice of this type of thing isnt a bad thing

  • @pavo6503 Or sniper rifle. Even better, NUKE THAT BASTARD FROM THE ORBIT!!!

  • Is this choreographed or dynamic? if it's dynamic and you can actually avoid being in the line of fire that way then this might actually have a little bit of practical value.

  • why don't they just pull the trigger after they bow to each other? I bet it's much easier.

  • Wax on, wax off, wax on, wax shoot.

  • looks like they are showing off then actually fighting. Well, in reality, most martial art has become just show off. In real life, one proper hit and ur down.

  • @mindsoulbody LOL Are you even a Martial Artist? Cause that's something that wouldn't really come from a Martial Artists mouth...

  • @ZemZeeBeatz What I meant is, what THEY are showing, the gun kata, in real life they have many forms to deal w/ such threat. And here, they are just doing it as preplanned. The kata done in all martial art is to discipline and make your mind, body work together. But in this case, even having such moves are somewhat useless. To be precise, look at some of the military techniques for handling gun-at-point situation. Most martial arts have become show-off. Their true forms are always deadly.

  • I'm guessing this is just for fun and show. In that context, it's entertaining :)

but because I feel like it:

practically, that sucked. the barrel crossed your bodies many times. the point of a practical gunkata would be to keep the barrel from ever coming inline with any part of your body. once it does, you're considered shot.

  • Who teaches you? Christian Bale?

  • The smarter man would just take a step back and shoot the other in the face instead of groping him

  • @Damuse8191

the problem is though that they are already up close and a second it takes to step back will also be the second which allows the opponent to aim

  • @DarkestFayt 1 second isn't always enough time to aim.

  • The movie is hilariouse, this is even more hilariouse...

Trying to poke someone's eye with gun...

  • Cool. Now show us the scene where he saves his "wife" from the police. Im not being sarcastic - I just really wanna see it!

  • tango? xD

  • real world equilibrium

  • real? in kimono? on tatami? dreat, this is real..hahaha

  • @kakaroto6662 I don't see any kimonos in this video.

  • what kind of a faggot is not bulletproof. people are retarded. if youre going to fight then at least devour the heart of your oppenent after you defeat them as well. how else will you gain their courage?

  • arent they gonna shoot ?

  • gunkata disco

  • Not bad

  • gayest shit ever die in a fire

  • The reason why guns (and other projectile weapons) were invented is so that an assailant does not have to get close to a target to kill. What's the use of having a gun when its wielder deliberately walks within inches of the target? I know that some small-caliber firearms are inaccurate at long range, but even then, a shooter doesn't need to get so close. The only way I see a use for the gun kata is if you were the target, and your gun-wielding assailant is foolish enough to get up-close.

  • @CITIZEN9135 The only use for gunkata is to be awesome and entertaining for an audience to watch. It succeeds at that, and that's all that really matters.

  • @CITIZEN9135 could be useful in close-quarter situations, such as buildings, tunnels, or ambushes. If it's effective don't discount it as a utility.

  • lol nice

  • This isnt gun kata...rather it is gun fu. Gun Kata doesnt invlove hand to hand techniques.

  • The purpose of Kata is learn basic techniques. Any sort of free style work would be done after an understanding of basics is complete.

  • can be proven that it works thats good close quarter fighting but say 3 to 5 feet would be hard to do right.

  • well, gun kata was invented to look badass in movies, but what is being displayed in the video would actually be possible. if your opponent has slow reflexes, that is. but if he gets an arm length away, you'd need teleportation skills to dodge

  • @Asm0dis

Actually it is no problem. You just have to evade bullets that have an average velocity of 800 km/h.

  • @VannevarBush yeh but their size is extremely small people seem to think of them as a moving wall, the same way a human catches an arrow 1 way is knowing where he's aiming and when he fires another way is intense focus, since you dont want to catch a bullet look at the muzzle of the gun and simply move an inch left or right, or if in a close up situation like this being shot is highly probable but still the chance of escape alive is very high, for masters

  • @chatanwarrior

I think it is more or less luck. And I suppose that masters know that.

  • @VannevarBush yeh, in any fight even without guns involved its luck

  • RPG KATA hahahahahaha...

  • Wayy to slow.

  • #WHAT #LOL #OMG #FAIL #FTW

  • Is gun kata even possible?

  • Not very impressive. It's obviously choreographed, and hasn't been practiced very well, either. They wait for the opponents to finish their moves before attempting to counter attack.

  • @0101181920 Its a Kata, of course its been choreographed.

  • i want to learn those!

  • Step back and shoot?

  • @Erkyos Or kick them?

  • Hint: pull the gun to your hip, so he doesn't grab your wrist? Ok? Thanks. Bye.

  • ahaha I'd hate to be watching a real gun-kata fight, I'd get about six to seven bullets in my ass.

  • It'd be pretty sick to watch a legit gunfight going down in this fashion.

...From a safe distance, of course.

...and maybe behind some bulletproof glass for good measure.

  • and a riot shield :D

  • nice choreography

  • friggin asian people.

  • This is possibly the only occasion you'll see where the Sweeper beats the Grammaton Cleric :P

  • Slick.

  • Yeah......I like Equilibrium a lot more XD

  • Meanwhile, all the innocent bystanders watching are accidently shot by stray bullets :)

  • hahaha lol acciddental mass murder

  • but with finesse.

  • @nopudding4you haha yeah

  • @nopudding4you They signed the waiver dammit! :O

  • Name of the song plz

  • wish i knew how to do this man it'd be so handy if someone was robbing you

  • Why so serious?

  • These guys were just having fun, fuc. you guys ruin EVERYTHING.

  • it's not gun kata

gun kata is when you shift your position quickly and efficiently to aim and fire.

ur right this is just fantasy, but they are just having fun.

  • moulikv, could you tell me where do you train krav maga so I make sure to never train there?

Anyone with actual KM training would never do so many things seen here that I won't bother extensively listing, but I'll leave some:

    - turn your back on the opponent

    - break your own line of sight with the gun,

    - remain at mid-range once parried, and not close to knee/elbow distance

    - parry the gun instead of grabbing it

    - parry sidewards instead of down

Dude, get your facts straight before talking.

  • this reminds me of escrima, only without the sticks or knives

  • totally not

  • im guessing you havent seen the footwork, or the systematic disarms. if you replace the guns with knives, then you'd see

  • BLAM! at 0:27

  • if you want the upper hand at all, all you have to do is make your opponent turn around and fall back, shooting him while in the proccess.

belive me this may look cool but you are going to get so many straight line scars from bullets if you tried this in real life.

  • dont think that would happen every but guess it can sharpen ur reflexes

  • It looks cool in movies, but never try this in a real gunfight. it doesnt look cool when ur brains are all over the pavement. whats the point of having a gun when ur close enough to kiss 'em?

  • Thats genrally the point.

  • why was he wearing a helmet... legit

  • Shame?

  • This is called "Krav maga" it was only inspiratoin for Equilibrium,

    (THERE IS NOTHING LIKE GUNKATA)

  • it's beautiful, but useless...=(

  • Dance class...

  • lol

  • For real life it's obviously useless, 'cause the speed of a bullet once fired pretty much eliminates any advantage created by the gunkata technique. You can be a heck of a master, but be shot by accident :)

  • You are right.

btw, when you keep looking the review of the other pages, some of them are actually thinking it is useful.......I just want to tell them.

  • This stuff's meant to be used if someone pulls a gun on you from close range. The ACTUAL gun kata, that is. And it's only a very small section of the full-scale training.

  • It looks like beautiful, but it is useless.

It is just the movie tricks, it never works.

Just check the basic knowledge of the SWAT and the military units, etc. You will know how to use guns and disarm guns in real life,

    that is all.

May be we can discuss how beautiful these

movements are, but that is no point to argue about the gun kata in real life.

  • every fan of kata knows that it is meant for entertainment only. But so? If you managed to master gunkata in real life... there'd be noone to fight properly.

It is built to look brilliant. that is all.

  • Gunkata isnt useless, its just pointless. Aikido, Ninpo, and other martial arts all have extremely powerful gun disarming techniques which actually break your hand/finger instead of just pushing the gun out of the way.

  • Most of the disarming techniques don't usually account for you having a gun in your hand as well though...

  • that's a good point.

  • Then again, there were plenty of oppurtunities I saw in the video for either of them to shoot either.

And if their guns where similar to the ones in the Equilibrium (i.e. fully automatic) then it would be even less effective.

  • True but the principle of gunakta is deviating the line of fire from urself which is a fundamental part of any anti-gun technique. those techniques usally divide themselves in 6+ moves and actions which makes them extremelly complicated and only a true master ever stands a slim chance of success.

  • In my gods honest opinion think gun Kata if useless.

I mean think about it all the opponent with a gun has to have is a strong grip, strong arms and a good reaction speed to kill the user.

  • this aint real world for shit...

u can clearly see there is a flow to it

if the opponent cant match the flow none of this fancy stuff actually works...

  • then hte opponent loses

  • no all it would be is some kid swing his gun around and being flashy while hes being shot up with a 9mm

  • well since you know you're about to jump back you should be able to shoot faster than he reacts

  • Everyone, please. Movies, and most other forms of entertainment, are supposed to be over-the-top, fantasized versions of what reality can be; that's what makes them entertaining. Maybe Gun Kata isn't the most practical way of fighting in modern warfare, but who really cares? Relax, and enjoy the spectacle for what it is; don't bother each other with senseless fighting over something that one person crafted for the singular purpose of entertaining the masses across the globe. Just enjoy it.

  • Well said man, well said.

  • I know I l ike hope people try to simplify a situation like this. "Just walk backwards." Gun kata is just an over exaggerated version of CQC just like movie sword fights and gun fights, in real life it only last a few seconds, someone is gonna get hurt or die eventually.

  • Here's what you do in reality if Mr. Black Helmet man tries to gunkata you: walk backwards until he can't slap your gun then shoot him. Martial arts have and always will be almost completely useless in war, even in the age of swords and spears it was useless because you fight battles as a unit not an individual, man to man combat in war usually lasts about 1 to 2 seconds. Kungfu and karate look cool but just look at the boxer rebellion if you want to see how well they work in reality.

  • These guys are just having fun, relax all you karate wannabes. This would look much better with muzzle flashes similar to the Equilibrium movie.

  • Lulz

  • bullshit

  • Throw a grenade!!!!!

  • ... riiight. That was a dance. Who seriously thinks this is going to help? You might (very small chance) be able to slap someone's gun away once, unless you run or shoot them they WILL get that gun back on you and you WILL die.

Oh, by the way, if someone steps up and puts a gun in your face, odds are you're not gonna get that gun away the first time, the correct course of action is to GIVE THEM WHATEVER THEY WANT.

"Self Defense" is about not getting into that situation in the first place.

  • So long as you know the basics (and your opponent doesnt) you could easily beak someones entire arm and disarm them as they tried to stick you up.

Its not as improbable as you appear to believe.

  • If the other one really wants to shoot you in case you don't act like he wants, you'd be dead. Unless you are a Martial Arts expert, everyone would be faster at pulling the trigger than you are at taking his gun away

  • It depends if they're stupid enough to get point blank and actually press the gun to your flesh. At that range I am confident that even I could disarm them (and possibly even break his hand in the process, definitely his fingers)

  • Can you move your arm faster than he can move his finger? Probably not.

Human reaction time is 0.2 seconds. unless you can move your arm completely and get out of the way in about .3 seconds you will at the least be grazed. Chances are you will swing your arm and he will pull the trigger, simple as that. If this seems like such a pressing issue, look at Krav Maga. That stuff is designed especially for disarming people.

  • Doesnt matter. If he tries to mug you and reaches for your wallet, then you can get him without any issues. Besides, he doesn't want to shoot you and he knows it, murder is slightly more serious than theft.

  • That is dependant.

If a drug addict has gone days without a fix, chances are that his brain is going screwy. Enough to shoot you to get the money on you for their fix.

Drugs do that. Wonder why people do them...

  • A fair point, but if someone is that far gone I suspect he'd just shoot the first person he came across, and I wouldnt have to worry about it... Sounds cowardly, but then again, that first person could be me. Still, after that, the games up for him I guess.

  • My only question is...on that first shot, what if he misses? Do you run, giving him more chances to hit you in the back, or do you shoot him back, and try to nail the gun out of his hand?

  • Personally if he's that close and he managed to miss me I would dash forward and put the heel of my palm up into his nose. Odds are he'll drop his gun with the shock and then he's pretty much fucked ^_^

  • heel of palm to nose wouldnt just stun it would kill

  • Even better.

  • cause it makes u feel amazing.

  • Drugs make you feel amazing?

How about AFTER the High? Is it worth it?

    I say NO.

  • Lol

    it is worth it.

Being all burnt out and shit.

  • It's official...you're fuckin' stupid.

The CORRECT approach to this is "Fire while moving away and seeking COVER."

Above all else, if you're point guns at each other, SHOOT THAT MOTHERFUCKER FIRST.

  • Its official, you obvioulsy dont understand the criminal mindset. They want you to feel afraid, they want to be completely in control of the situation, so they will most likely initiate physical contact with you, to press home the point that they are in commmand.

TLDR? They will be close to intimidate you.

Also, in this debate we never said that the victim (ie, me) would ever have a gun. Please read the comments first before you make a fool of yourself.

    Regards, Alessio

  • If you're in a situation where a guy has you at gunpoint at close-range, the chances of you disarming them before you take a stray bullet are HIGHLY UNLIKELY.

More people are killed in stick-ups by trying to attack their attacker than they are killed in cold blood. The FIRST thing you should do, for example "Gimme yer wallet" would be to just give them the wallet.

What's worth more? 20 bucks, or your life. As for understanding criminals...well, I'm a cop.

Stop watching kung fu movies, kid.

  • Your'e not a cop, your'e a racist asshole. Nice videos you got there.

    Spare us your bullshit.

  • If I'm a black man, talking about the shit that black people do to make them as a people look bad...that makes me a racist? How about you pay some fuckin' attention to the videos and actually watch them.

  • What about this? When they have the gun on you, give them your wallet. Give them a chance to turn and walk away with your wallet.

Now you pull out your gun and shoot the fucker in the back of the head while he has his back turned to you. Take your wallet back and call the police to mop it up.

  • What if you don't have a gun? What then?

  • and get arrested and go to proson for YEARS because you shot someone in the back of the head while he was walking away from you. don't spreaqd this type of misconception, kids read this crap and believe alot of what they read on the internet

  • As for understanding criminals, I am a mother fucking criminal, and we don't think like that. If somebody pulls a gun on me and I have a gun on him I'm going to shoot him as quickly as I can so I don't get shot. We really don't think that much into the psychological effects of what we do, if you have a gun people tend to fear you no matter what you do.

  • It doesn't require that two people have guns, it only required one. In that situation all the gun kata user would have to do is get you close enough and disarm you. No big deal if you know what you're doing. The point on fear is also a good one, and it shows the cowardice of criminals, as they try and force their own fear onto other people. A brave citizen is more than a match for a 'mother fucking criminal' with a gun if they keep cool.

  • look you sound like you're either 12 or retarded, you obviously have no idea what you're talking about, if somebody pulls a gun on you and asks for your wallet you give it to them, if you try to fight a man with a gun you will lose

  • Look, you type like you're either 12 or retarded. Try for some full stops.
