I had to ride Greyhound recently, from Washington DC to Florida to watch the last space shuttle flight, and they had very strict rules about what people could and couldn't bring on. No pepper spray, even my Leatherman (I'm an engineer, and frequently carry small tools with me) got confiscated and I had to mail it on ahead (at least they didn't just take it), but I felt very unsafe, especially at the rest stops in strange cities where they make you get off. And BTW, although "dead time" is real, your comment explaining it it incorrect. "Dead time" is simply the time spent in detention prior to sentencing.
Whether or not it is applied as credit to the sentence is at the discretion of the judge and local laws. In Canada, credit is given most of the time although they recently passed a law to not allow judges to give 2x dead time credit (2 days credit for every 1 day detained used to be very common).

The united States does have more crime due to it's much larger population, if canada had as large a population as the United States then canada would have higher crime rates then the United States due to canadian criminals being released early. And BTW, although "dead time" is real, your comment explaining it it incorrect. "Dead time" is simply the time spent in detention prior to sentencing.
Whether or not it is applied as credit to the sentence is at the discretion of the judge and local laws. In Canada, credit is given most of the time although they recently passed a law to not allow judges to give 2x dead time credit (2 days credit for every 1 day detained used to be very common).
