  • @helendamnation THANK YOU! The inside was awesome!!!!!

  • I'd love to make a Harry Potter one but i couldn't cut up a book!

  • @TinyLittleLouise maybe you coudl cut it up, save the leaves and go rebind it somewhere. ^^ That's what I want to do. ^^

  • I love books and I cringed at the cutting of the book but dam that was pretty cool looking :P

  • typical modernage inventions "let's cut the text of a book to make me feel pretty!"

I like the idea but i think glue isn't the best solution, maybe you can reinforce the adhesion from the handles with studs, also glueing the fabric over the awesome looking print on the inside made me a bit sad.

    Fun project!

  • chiliconholly approved :)

  • I work at a public library and this is a wonderful alternative to just throwing books away or sending them to recycling. We get tons of donated books every year that have lots of issues that keep them from being put on our library shelves. The first and foremost being that they are so old that the pages have turned yellow or are falling apart. The second has to do with mold and mildew. I love books just as much as the next person, but you have to get rid of some of them eventually.

  • If you don't like deconstruction of a book. I too have trouble with deconstruction of a book. But the idea is superb!, you could easily color copy the book cover and transfer them to cardboard, or to 5x7 or 6x8 canvas panels. The panels replace the book cover. You could easily use anything as the panels.

  • the music at the end is from ollies dance experience :)

  • A person wearing a bag like that (or even having one) would make a terribly huge negative first impression to me.

  • he just removed the pages off the cover, he can easily keep the pages, replace the cover with paper and the book is readable again, its not as if he ripped the pages to pieces

  • Noooo, how can you recycle a book!? No matter how sweet the purse is, destroying a book is a sin!

  • @anczis if all the pages fell out already it's not a sin

  • @thedudsonette Well, I'd still rather repair the book than make a purse. But I'm a book freak and the purse is still nice.

  • @anczis yeah me too but i mean if the pages never existed and only the cover i'd still do it

  • Nice work!I really enjoyed this, you make it look so easy, and there was no faffing about with long boring explanations on how to do this. :)

  • why waste a book and destroy it? Use a normal cardboard!

  • I LOVE IT!!! I will definately try it...at least once :)

  • Fantastic.

  • Love it!! Doing cloth wipes for #2. Did cloth diapers, but not wipes. Unfortunately, the wipes go EVERYWHERE!!

  • This is a cool Idea for books that pages are missing from, and/or got wet and are no longer legible! Thanks!

  • Awesome!

  • COOL !!

  • wow that seems like lots of work, but I really wanna try it, any quicker way?

  • OK but it's wrong to ruin books you know.

  • @slendersail Not if you're recycling a book that wasn't being used.

  • @Gabby0342 That's silly. There is no such thing. Books can wait hundreds of years for a new reader so again, it isn't right. Just like you're taught not to make "ears" or write notes on them. I guess being of the internet generation you were not aware of this?

  • @slendersail I can understand where you're coming from, but seriously, there are millions and millions of books. Plus, books are constantly being printed. If someone wants to recycle ONE BOOK, out of millions and millions that aren't being used, I don't see any problem with it. It's just being creative. It's like saying, "you shouldn't use fabric to make a stuffed animal, because fabric could be used to make clothing or something more useful."

  • @slendersail And I may be from the "internet generation" but, I love books. I read constantly, and I take care of my books and treat them with respect. Just so you know.

  • @Gabby0342 Agree, but libraries discard books all the time to make room for newer books. Plus, many older books have severe paper acidity issues. So, there should be plenty of books for crafters to re-purpose.

  • @BeckyIB I think you replied to the wrong person. I was saying that there is nothing wrong with making something out of an old book.

  • This is AMAZING! I'm going to get the stuff and try it out tonight!

  • This is a very creative idea.

  • Make one from the Bible and give it to a nun :) Jk

  • @DDSmusicals to be honest thats a great idea in fact my mother in law is a nun so yay birthday solved!

  • i love you! if you are straight you're going to blow by mind!

  • Nice job. I like the inside artwork on the book though. Too bad you covered it up.

  • i watch this a million times a day

  • I really think this is good! Plastic bags would be cooler and earth friendly to make and even be nice. I hope you post something like plastic bags into better bags and not needing to crochet. This would be cool

  • wow dis is a master piece ;) luv it !

  • thats so cool :)

  • It's a cute idea but that bag would last about 2 days with my abuse. Maybe for a 2 year old girl.

  • Love this! The book cover is for handbag and the book pages can be used for paper bows and alike.

  • mehh, it looks ugly

  • @lyrics4eva100 ....-____- there are areas where you can buy used books there..i seen that in my local library

  • Instead of glueing the handle tabs, I think it would better and sturdier to sew them straight onto the fabric you lay inside the book. Also depending on the thicknest of the bookand your budget, you could use fabric nails. They have the 1/4 to 1/2 inch heads and the nail lengths of about a 1/4 inch. They used for attaching fabric to wood for seats and such. It would make the adherement of the fabric and book stronger. Instead of handles you could sew in a shoulder strap from the same material.

  • COOL...!!!

  • cute....but i don't think i could do that to a book. i hated when he covered up the end paper with the fabric.

  • How exciting! I am going to make one for my daughter and make some more to sell. Thanks

  • @WiredGamers fuck u

  • Now you have explained in detail how to make the bag maybe you would consider showing us the finished article !

  • I did this as soon as i finished watching the vid but i used a book called sirena which had a mermaid on the front so it ended up nice :)

  • effort in running =D it gives excitement hahah

  • Well done video!

    Clever idea.

  • What a great idea! You can create your very own "designer" clutch bag! Its innovative and being green at the same time.

  • neat idea................and great recycling too! I just wonder how sturdy it would be using just glue to fasten the fabric down. I don't imagine it would last long if you put more than one or two lightweight items in it!

Just a further note for the cutting while using a rotary cutter..............obviously, this young man is experienced in using a rotary cutter, but the blades are VERY SHARP, TRUST ME I KNOW, so please use with a craft ruler as intended (available at Walmart, etc.)

  • This is awesome, thanks!!!!!!

  • my sister was going to do this to twilight because twilights disqusting and she wanted to destroy her copy but I convinced her not to because who would want to carry twilight with them all the time!?

  • Do you wanna a SEXY AND SOCIAL DRESS with SCARF?!

    2 in 1?

    LOOK MY CHANNEL!!

    =)

  • Looove It!

  • Pay attention nay-sayers ... he actually said "old recycled book". Sheesh! Great idea, simple to do and pretty darn clever. I think it's a great job, thanks for the ideas and clear instructions.

  • This is really cool:) I didn't no u can make a purse out of a book:)

  • I think that is really COOL! You did a great job. Thanks for showing us. Don't know why people think that the book is worth hundreds! You get very, very, very few books worth anything if they are OLD! Very creative and definitely worth much more made into a bag than it was putting it in the trash.

  • Comment removed

  • why do people assume that the book is worth hundreds?

  • I've never seen a guy sew before.

  • Thanks for trying anyway.... LIKE :)

  • so, in other words, you did have a really vintage expensive book, but you say fuck it, im gonna cut it up and smear it with glue, then put tacky fabric on it, and call it a purse, give it to the special person in my life, then find it in the trash 1 hour later. sounds like a plan. congratulations, you have now spent several hundred dollars on a peice of trash.

  • I never knew guys sew.

  • I think this could seel for more money than people think. I think it depends on the cover you use and how you market it.

  • This was nice... not very practical... but nice!

  • Ooh my god! what in hell did you do with that book? People don't destroy books like that!! what's wrong with you?!!

  • 0:00

  • I am definitely sharing your video! Hehe, loved it :)

  • I am definitely sharing your video! Hehe, loved it :)

  • Cute, easy to do, interesting, definitively I like it.

  • Why did you cut the triangles in half and then sew them back together?

  • Comment removed

  • @juciylisa123 would like to see this.....

  • What a tramp. Hes probably wearing shoes made out of old milk cartons

  • lmaooo0o instead of doin all that you could take the money you spent on the glue, scissors, gas lol etc and buy a bag and keep the change smh

  • wow O.O

Im going to try this :D

    Looks awesome n.n

  • OMG...I still have that very book! Seriously. Been carting it around for ... (not going to say how many years!) Could never, ever, take scissors or craft knife to it...Sacrilege!! I even remember that TV series...lol

  • wow.. i <3 it.

  • Not a bad idea, coming from a dude.

The purse was cute Small.... But cute !

  • I love this! I have a book that I've had for years. The pages are in horrible condition but the cover is still great looking. I have bought a new copy of the book and this is a GREAT way to use that extra book I've been keeping for aesthetics! Thanks so much!

  • UNREAL! who'da thought!!

  • i don't care what you people say! i really like this project and iam going to try it. i saw a bag simiral to this one in store with handmade things and it was REALLY expensive! and there was another one with a wooden box instead of a book. EXPENSIVE!! don't be afraid to be unique! sarah jessica parker wore a big bird on her head in the movie, and people thought that it was cute, rather than reaeally ugly! BE UNIQUE! (and btw i would never do this to twilight books! i love them! ) x x

  • @ioka2008 Sorry I wnted to click thumb's up

    But i clicked thumb;s up (:

  • @xxreroxxable :)))

  • Iris, as you seem to be a nice person.I am not going to tease you.

My original comment was genuine but tongue in cheek.

I should have remembered that our American friends dont understand irony and some aspects of the British sense of humour. So thanks for your advice but i dont think i will be attempting this (or any other project) from this guy in the forseeable future lol

  • You could use magnets to close the bag!!

  • i'm sorry and take this a funny why but that looks like crap i bet at dollar tree they sell better stuff

  • COOL! SUPER COOL!

  • what a crock, what make one think the book needed to be " RECYCLED "

  • i would not give that to my wonderful woman...

me: hey babe, i just got u a present

girlfriend: what is it? (i hope its jewelry)

me: here you go! (showing the handmade bag)

girlfriend:What...the fuck.....is this... thats it, ur sleeping on the couch.

  • it would be alot easier to just go out to the store and buy a purse!

okay like 30 dollars for materials.....you could get a GOOD purse for that !

And why would you want to do that to a book! the book is worth like 100+ so you cut out the pages and keep the cover? what sence does that make?

  • Cute im going to make these out of childrens books awsome idea .

  • Cute im going to make these out of childrens books awsome idea

  • él es muy lindo xD

  • 1) When it comes to "expensive" books collectors want first editions. So even if it's a "classic" if it's not a 1st it's not worth much more than the paper it's printed on. (This excludes vintage titles or limited runs.)

    2) You can take this idea and make your own "book" from cardboard or balsa then print or stitch a "cover." It looks like a fun project with a lot of potential for imaginative folks.

  • @jumpdance24

What world do you live in where a 'vintage' book is worth that much?

  • WHAT AN UGLY THING

take 10 bucks and buy some psycho pills you moron.

minimum 30 bucks and a sewing machine you moron

    PLEASE ANYONE A GUN?

  • idk about vintage books but if bf or hub did this for v-day it would really melt my heart, especially if it was a fave book of mine..just not the one i own

  • I love it! I would use suede rather than fabric. Jumpdance24.....I see your point, but it's a great way to recycle a truly battered book. I would never rip apart a book :(, but if the condition was poor, I would consider it.

  • It's a lovely idea, but I could never cut up a book. I'm a true literature geek. The book used here was also a vintage book. It's actually not available in the UK and it's very expensive in the US. Maybe you could have used a cheaper, less rare book. That would be better. And, being a literature geek, I'd love a handbag decorated in the style of my favourite novels!

  • This is too cool~

  • hi....... great deals on thereplicabag

  • amazing :)!

  • I'm happy to see a guy doing arts and crafts :) It's not a bad project, I would try making one, not from a very old book--- unless the old book is unheard of and boring, least the pages can be recycled--- anyway, great project.

Did you just use fabric glue for this?

  • welcome China wholesaler website PayPalBuy doc com com accept paypal creditcard.

  • Wot a waste of my time

  • ha ha this is fucking stupid. Why the hell would anyone make one of those.

  • i'm going to make 1 right now

  • wow thats really good, and its really creative, I love working with my hands. art and creativity are my hobbies, this is a really fun idea to make a book into a purse, I wish I could try it out, but I don't have a sewing machine :(

  • ummm, yeah, i think i'll just buy a bag

  • lol "cleary im a dude"

  • What an ugly handbag , LOL .

  • like nice

  • So, let me get this straight.

Take a 'vintage' book (worth 20 to several hundred dollars)

    Cut it up.

    Smear it with glue.

    Stick cheap material on it.

Buy handles and poppers, cutting mats, cutters and other paraphernalia.(20 bucks)

    Work for half a day.

Hey presto .....a thing worth 3 bucks!

  • @jumpdance24 It's up to you how much the "vintage" book is that you use. Just because a book is old doesn't mean that it's worth anything today. The hardcover books I've used for these purses or other crafts were a quarter at a library sale or used bookstore, and most of them aren't even worth that much to a book collector today.

  • @Eruwenolorien

I was just teasing you mate!

Can you tell us if you make all your own dresses or buy them in ?
