  • oh because 2 miles is SOOOOO far! PEOPLE can walk two miles....horses can do much better. Wild horses cover MANY miles in a day....

  • What a beautiful thing to see human and horse working together. What a spectacular way to get that beautiful percheron out and about... just a fine stroll and a great warm up before work. That's how you keep a horse healthy; stretching those big muscles. I envy those still allowed to bring their animals in public. My horse, kept in a quiet suburb of LA, is to remain ONLY on the small property due to local zoning laws. Even my dog, certified for therapy, remains unnecessarily chained up.

  • @havinfar2muchfun you can see the trust the horse has in his human companion, he is completely calm and relaxed. That is a special thing you can't force. It makes me smile to see an animal so well cared for. I know that the video was put up to show 'cruelty' but it shows the exact opposite.

  • I also agree that the horse looks relaxed, healthy, and not at all spooked.

Don't get pissy everytime somebody has a different opinion than you.

However, I don't really think that the city is a place for a horse.

  • this horse looks relaxed and not spooked at all looks healthy too leave them alone... o wait you don't have a life

  • This is the most ridicules thing i have ever seen. That guy wouldnt stand a chance in hell of hanging on to that horse if he got spooked and bolted. These majestic animals do not belong on the streets of NYC.

  • You're right. They belong in a beautiful Colorado pasture don't you think?

That's where I'm used to seeing them... and that's where my sisters appaloosa stepped in a gopher hole and broke it's leg when it was only 3 years old.

Should I explain why a broken leg is a fatal injury to a horse or do you want to keep your happy Colorado horse pasture mental image a little longer?

  • i am entitled to an opineon, which is i dont think horses belong in the middle of NYC. I am truly sorry your sisters horse had a fatal injury at pasture but no need for sarcasm. I have owned and loved many horses in my life time and the happiest i have ever seen them is when you turn them out and they run and frolic with other horses!

  • I don't think people should have a horse running around free in the city because the horse could get hit by a car and freaked out real easily. That horse seemed calm, which is very good. If a horse were to freak out in the middle of the street that would be very hard to deal with.

  • Well to please the die hard extremist ,they will never be pleased in whatever they see, thats proven,as al the horses that are working, look extremly well fed, groomed and shod.TheDept of Heath and aspca seem to quite satisfied with as many inspections they do regularly.Whatwe would benefit by not giving the animals the best care we can?Two very qualified vets ,1 a Prof from Cornell and the other a aspca consultant and vet for he mounted police testified no abuse whatsoever.

  • The ASPCA testify they want a ban on this industry in NYC. The NYC audit report stated that the dept of Health did not do the required inspection and no field exams at all.

  • @horsesinnyc acctually that was a long time ago why dont you mind you buisiness and get a damn horse that horse is capably fine of walking and he is enjoying the fresh air you say everything is cruel why dont you jsut go ban bikes to while ur at it?

  • My stable is shown on you tube's Maria on the Move,Ms.Derr spent the whole afternoon at my family's stable and loved it.

  • You really don't see the stalls where they keep the hores. and clinton and shamrock and byrne, why don't they post the videos of these "stables" . they can post videos of "petards" but not the stables. it says a lot to me.

  • @horsesinnyc they have acctually go to stopliesseetruth he shows the stables learn the truth extremist

  • We open our stable doors every single week for our Equestria, riding for the disabled. We have a NARHA Certif instructor, tons of horse loving volunteers working with our horses and ponies, and everybody has a great time in my stable and are very pleased with every 1 of my animals.

  • A horse most certainly can be led on the sidewalk, its notconsidered a vehicle unless the horse is hitched to a carriage. This horse was calm and didn't cause a threat to anybody, and it belongs to me.There was movie called Enchanted and we were hired to have a 2nd horse on set.

  • Would you stop with that lie. that horse was bound to a carriage in front of tavern on the Green and there was no film crew at all.. This is why I don't believe anything your industry states because of all the lies that I am aware of.

  • We certainly were there doing the movie Enchanted,I own the omly lavender carriage inCentral Park.I am needing to argue with chilish banter ,I am on the advisory board for Equestria, the wonderful program we host in our stable every week.I click on this video cause I enjoy seeing 1 of my majestic percherons. The greatest satisfaction is that non of these phony orgs will ever take my herd of horses away, and Mr.Avella made it quite a fool of himself! BYE BYE Mayoral Candidate! NY ! shows 4%

  • why dont you post a video of those stables??

  • There was no movie set. it was in front of tavern on the green and it was attached to the carriage and stood in line with the other carriages to pick up fares. that is a fact.

  • This horse seems calm to me...

His body language seems like he is used to it. No ears back, or anything. He doesn't seemed spooked or "angry"

  • yes, but the horses don't live in the park, their stables are miles away and they have to endure traffic, heavy traffic especially during rush hours. Also if you see my other videos you will note that these horses live unnatural and unfit lives in NYC. This large city is no place for horses. peace

  • He shouldn't be on the sidewalk and he's not dragging a carriage full of fat tourists around. (yet)

Probably a fresh horse brought in to replace the one that dropped dead from exhaustion

  • Calm not at all bothered horse being walked to a carriage at tavern on the green..

    whats the big deal?

Looks like a very chil-axed horse to me being handled appropriately

  • Except he's on the sidewalk which isn't allowed.

  • This has been a NYC staple since 1862. There must be a better way to do this without getting rid of them.

  • @RR01, sometimes we must let go off the past if it is detrimental. In this case, these horses are the victim of "tradition". These horses don't belong in such traffic and kept in such conditions. NYC should be ashamed of itself. The horses don't belong in NYC in the 21st century and why force them to live such miserable lives. this is a poor reflection on NYC. I call NYC- Cruelty and the City

  • You may be right. I was just trying for a compromise

  • I agree totally horseinnyc, these horse do NOT belong in conjested traffic, not been able to roll or run after a hard days graft. You can not substitute a herd of horses for cars, a car cant be a look out for danger while the horse rest's therfore the horse can never truly rest!

  • np,ASPCA tried for years to no avail to compromise with this industry. Unfortunately, NYC environment and lack of oversight is cruel for these poor horses

  • Your right and it will end. Some powerhouses coming into the fray.

You will be surprised who the hero turns out to be.

    History in the making

  • 2 RADIOREPORTER01 WTF!? How can you be on both sifes of the issue? What a clown you are!

  • I'm a clown?

Look in the mirror, you see either a clown or a delusional person. Let me know, even though the response will be that of a clown or someone with an illness

  • i know its funny coming from him

  • I am thinking if the carriage mustn't have been danaged if another horse can pull it.Maybe the other horse lost a shoe or was ill,and the replacement was going to go.This horse looks well adjusted not scary and strong.

  • Yeah. And pigs can fly, and my butt spouts quarters. Horses have NO PLACE in NYC traffic, and that is not "well adjusted" body language. That is the body language of an exausted, beaten down spirit of a horse who never gets to run and graze, and who goes "home" to a stall that if I reached my two arms out, I could touch the walls on either side -- too small for the horse to lie down. Watch the documentary BLINDERS to get a fucking clue. It's on cable TV this month.

  • Well said Indio156, glad some people who know about horses can read their body laungage and no what a horse needs!!!

  • I thought of that too. I'm sure a lot goes unseen.

  • Not anymore. I'm making a list and checking it twice.

I'm taking info from both sides. Seems like the carriage owners show upstate a lot and the animal rights people show whats going on in the traffic.

I'm not taking sides but it seems like the owners are wrong and the others are right.

But we will examine all and decide then. If you have info, please contact me.

  • This is very strange. If this guy is walking his horse to Tavern on the Green, presumably to be hooked up to a carriage, it begs the question - what happened to the first horse? There have been countless accidents that never get reported in the media.

  • That was my question
