All of these acts have contributed so much to society, and Madonna is one of them. There are not a lot of artists who were amazing singers AND innovative influential performers like Madonna. There's Michael Jackson, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Queen... most other influential acts like U2, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley (+ everyone below) were just average singers.
Yes she can sing, not as expertly as someone like Celine Dion, but she would have gotten nowhere if she couldn't sing. I love her a lot and find her a very brilliant woman. No one puts on a concert like her. No one. Its like theater. When loosing an argument about Madonna being a better singer than, say, Celine, Mariah and Whitney, the Madonna fans ALWAYS brag about her 300 million record sales. There are thousands of immensely talented singers who will NEVER have the type of publicity, opportunities or the number of record sales Madonna has had.

In fact, the better singers aren't often the most creative ones. Being a better singer doesn't make you a better artist. All of these acts have contributed so much to society, and Madonna is one of them. There are not a lot of artists who were amazing singers AND innovative influential performers like Madonna. There's Michael Jackson, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Queen... most other influential acts like U2, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley (+ everyone below) were just average singers.

Yes she can sing, not as expertly as someone like Celine Dion, but she would have gotten nowhere if she couldn't sing. Music isn's all about fancy singing - look at the friggin Beatles, the Stones, Dylan, Springsteen, the Who, Bowie..pretty much most rock bands actually. Even disco divas like Diana Ross and Donna Summer weren't crazy singers like Patti Lupone..yet all of these artists still made great music and great performances! Madonna is not only simply one of them, but also one of the best.

I think that Olivia Newton-John sings the best "Don't cry for me Argentina". I just thought I'd throw that in there. I like both Madonna and Cyndi. I think Cyndi has the better personality but she put on concerts, not really "shows" as Madonna does. I don't think Madonna has anything to do with Cyndi dropping out and putting out records.

Agreed. The holy trinty of pop music is Elvis, Michael and Madonna. No Madonna's not a great natural singer, however her pop music is GREAT. It's amazingly produced. Madonna is also an amazing entertainer, to see her live is an experience that dazzles the senses. To say her only talent is marketing is to sell her short. Oh and I do love Ms.LuPone, however Madonna rocked the film version.

Oh dear, I forgot to answer your question. Well, truthfully I have too many people that I like to listen to. I can't really pick anyone! But If I must pick some, then the singers I like the MOST right about now are Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga. I think they're both really unique and creative and gutsy and not afraid to step up and do something different! To me it doesn't matter if someone's weird, or gay, or different, or... well, whatever.
