I was a watchman on the Maumee when she was the Calcite II and my room bunked right up against the windlass room. Scared the hell out of me one night when they let the break blocks loose to let the anchor fall. I thought we hit somethin so I ran out on deck in my underwear with a life jacket on. Ya kno you've been had when ur at your fire station in your underwear and everyones laughin! You still sailing? Keep up the good work and the videos!
that's noisy stuff! I knew the son of friends of my dad in the UP...he worked the radio on an ore carrier and came home when Superior froze...now I wish I'd asked him more about that but in the late '40s, being a little kid, well :)
Thats really cool I have only worked the electric gear driven type. Looks like your is located in the focsile. ours was on top and lifted our 2000lb navy stockless anchor connected to with flashbutt links and nine shots of chain.
