@robynn0405 I don't know Betsy Sharkey well enough to know. Although I've read some of her columns/articles before and she has only focused on white actors, ignoring minority actors who also contribute. But in this case here, I think she was more trying to say that here's a mainstream movie with a black female princess character. Most of the time, Disney has used white characters.

Loved this movie! Lots of Disney Classic potential. Tiana is a strong, hard working woman. I think that's important for any girl of any race to see. I was glad to see there was a mixture of different people in the audience. That shows this movie can be for anyone.Keep up the good work Disney!

I agree. I like that they didnt make her character like every other disney princess where the character seems to just sit there and wait for her dreams to come true. I like this movie alot! has some really good messages

Don't get me wrong, It looks beautiful, the animations but lets take a look at whats really going on. Take the main character's mother for example, why is she working for the white family? Why set the story in a time when there was more racism and segregation? And Disney once again turns to animal morphing to avoid. I know I am ranting here, but I have so many issues with this movie. "What matters is what lies under the skin." says the fairy god mother of this tale.

Eudora's a seamstress and mentioned that Charlotte was her "best customer" implying that she did indeed have other customers and works by commission, whether white or black as long as they pay. As for New Orleans in the 1920s, they chose it for it's rich musical history, being the Jazz Age and all.

Believe me, the Disney company wouldn't deliberately set itself up as racist. Of course, there may be issues here and there,but only for those who insist on being absolutely politically correct.

I find this review very offensive as well. Betsy needs to take a hard look at herself. I am biracial and it's just a fact that some people *cough* will never understand how offensive this movie is. Anyone can have big dreams. I just find this racist. On top of that I don't like the voices of these characters, the yes ma'am and I autta's sir, reminds me of the crows from Dumbo, remember them?

Sounds like you are overly sensitive. I'm from a highly diverse family and none of these things bother me in the least. Crows in Dumbo included.

One of the greatest movies of all time; Gone with The Wind. It's set place in a highly racist era and in acted out like that. Does that take away from the movie? Not a bit.

A good movie transcends what you as a person should deem acceptable and not.

Actually I love this movie

TheOmegaParadigm, My uncle voices the part of Ray the cajun fireflly. In no way shape or form am i in any way trying to cause a problem. I have had to deal with the fact of controversy personal due to the fact that my uncle was a very large factor of it in this movie. I am simple stating that what the reviewer said was rather offensive. Now i might of misinterpreted it, and if i have i am sorry. This movie is amazing, and your right, lets not anything effect it.
