  • Great Job dude, that tutorial was really awesome, I'am looking into joysticks for my new PS3 and I'am not sure if I should buy a Standard or Tournament Joystick, but I think either way I will mod it after watching your vid.

  • My friend I want to ask you if this stick is similar to the one MadCatz made for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom for the Wii. This would be my first MOD and I would love to switch the stick for a Sanwa one with and American style TOP. Is is as simple as you make it look? What tools do you reccomend? Another thing, do you any idea or sugestions on how to replace the art the controller has (Tatsunoko background)?? I would like to replace it with a solid color background.

  • what did you say at 2:39? "This is a (something) version of this" no disrespect just can't understand what you said.

  • @Killcycle1989 I think he meant this (what he was pointing to, the original madcatz joystick) is basically a generic copy of the sanwa sticks

  • thanks for this simple and insightful tutorial...now all i have to do is wait for my sanwa parts to come in the mail..

one question tho'...how much would you say having sanwa parts instead of the madkatz ones improves your game?

  • thanks for vid very helpful & detailed

  • @dinodoedoe my bad i just saw that you mentioned the buttons in the tutorial

  • @dinodoedoe do you have a tutorial on how to replace the buttons

  • How much of a difference would this joystick make I ordered it with the plate.

  • Where can i find the Vinyl Dye?!

  • @imPuLs1v3 Any auto store

  • will the button light up?

  • I modded my joystick using your text guide, and it looks beautiful. However, my bubble ball won't stay fixed in place. Do I have to do something with that "screw" in the center of the joystick panel, or what? Is there any way to make the balltop stay in place without gluing it? It hasn't actually come off yet, but it is kind of annoying to be playing with a balltop that slowly unscrews itself as you play.

  • @strn13 This would be a Seimitsu balltop/joystick, by the way.

  • Outrun music!

  • I'm wondering WHY we should replace the stick. I mean, I grew up with a square restrictor plate, but is that the only difference? or is the MadCatz jostick (the actual joystick piece) the same in quality?

  • @NitghVision absolutely not of the same quality, my man. the top notch sanwa used here is god-tier compared to the barely adequate stock madcatz stick. all it takes is one hadoken and you can tell. lol.

  • what the difference between madcatz and sanwa stick????

    they look like the same

  • Go lose some weight, get a shave, get a job, and trim those nasty finger nails

  • Thanks a lot for this! :D I mashed my light punch button too much and broke it so I replaced it with the all punch button lol. Works just fine cept the weird coloring. :P *Favorites*

  • is the pcb the exact same on the xbox TE?

  • Where could I get my artwork printed off in the UK? Cheers man! Good vid!

  • very easy to understand well constructed video, thanks very much.

  • Really good video, thanks. I also like your enthusiasm lol :)

  • You sir are great. Thanks a bunch, I will buy that arcade stick now and will upgrade it when i get 2 secs

  • I upgraded my fight stick yesterday by following this guide. Everything was smooth and simple. Thanks.

  • Right now, I can only change buttons or the joystick cuz of money. What should I change first?

  • @MrOnekneetoe Joystick.

  • Is it possible to use American style joysticks? Like the competition style ones?

  • @The1337sandwich I tried but the base of the Happ sticks are just to big. It won't fit.

  • @The1337sandwich yeah i hate the "gumball" sticks. i prefer the american style sticks far more

  • @ToonFreak559 Yes

  • Hey how do you get new artwork for Se sticks. (I know that is probably a noob question. But it would really help out if you could tell me)

  • @FallensBlackouts There is a link in the video description with step by step instructions.

  • @Dinodoedoe Ah sorry, I should have looked first. Thanks tho :D

  • good tutorial

  • I tried removing the connectors for the buttons (switching them for Sanwa buttons) but I accidentally pulled the wire off the tip. Is there any way to fix that?

  • @xXAntiHero666Xx Crimp a new connector and reattach.

  • cool music

  • Nice elevator music!

  • he looks like E. honda

  • can i put a JLW-TM-8 in

  • To buy parts:

Look up dshot 8 on ebay.

He's like a direct sanwa vendor or something. You can get the sanwa stick, buttons, and an extra octagon restrictor plate for 56 bucks total. He let me pick the colors, included the ball top for the stick, and shipped everything same day, brand new.

Helpful tip: Sanwa buttons actually have the name "Sanwa" engraved into the plastic.

  • @motleyfellow - I bought mine from him too :D

  • how about the JLW-TM-8 will that work too?

  • would the sanwa buttons with the mounting nuts work too? also do u really need to buy a new joystick or could i just buy a 8 wa gate?

  • sweet! now that i can get the buttons out i can do the color swap before i order my parts and get my new art

  • How does the octogon gate feel? I always played with the square and i love it for the shortcuts to moves i could pull off

  • Do you have to use that speccific Sanwa stick? Or can you use another Sanwa stick, like this: Sanwa Joystick JLF-TP-8YT

  • @E7ECTR1CK That will work fine.

  • Great tutorial, I think I am going to try it. One thing though, I just read on shoryuken forums that an octo restrictor in a SE stick causes problems.

  • Thanks so much man, one of my buttons kept getting jammed lol

this video is very helpful keep up the great work man!

  • When replacing the buttons, does it matter in how you reconnect the wires or no?

  • @genomyoshida it does not matter.

  • Why did my stick melt when I put it in the oven like you did?!!!! Damn it.

  • lol....jangofatt

  • Replacing the restrictor plate is purely optional. The square restrictor plate comes stock with these Sanwa joysticks. Many prefer the octagonal restrictor plates but I've actually come to warn up to the square plate.

  • Doesn't the restrictor plate come with the joystick?

  • Sun you are a lifesaver I copped a SE stick and the LT button got shot to shit in a matter of days I called madcatz and I was gonna ship it to them but after watching this I might just go to amazon and order some sanwa buttons it'll probably be better than shipping it to them so they can replace the buttons with the same crap thanks again

  • now when i order the joystick do i have to buy the octagonal restrictor plate? what exactly does that do?

  • @lshsballer if you ever notice on your SE Where in the corners they feel like 90 degree angles its a little harder to pull of hadoukens and shoryukens with it, it makes it a bit more smooth kinda feels like theres no corners.

  • @spartanDSK hmm i have noticed this, thank you for the insight. I'll be ordering that too then.

  • idk why i lol'd at the oven scene.

  • this is REEEAAALLLY easy. Im gonna fix up my TvC stick in the next week.

  • this is going to make my gief game a ton easier.

    thanks for the video.

  • Is that a custom built cabinet that 3s in

  • Do you remember the measurements/resolution for the laminate?

I checked the guide in the video description, but I didn't see it.

  • Also, what size buttons are you using here in the vid?

  • @tsdcs 30mm

  • Wow, this is an easy mod! I might actually get off my ass and do this in the near future.

  • dude can you tell me this i bought 8 seimitsu ps-14-kn buttons can these buttons light up if so how and if not what buttons do you have to get i have a TE stick thanks

  • thanks much! used that to switch the stick, soo much better. stick was easier than the buttons which i did a while back.

  • hello, my ball doesn't spin. I mean, i tried to screw it away, but it's loose. It's like the metal part inside the ball got fucked up....it's loose and i can't screw it anymore. What can I do? I'm thinking about cutting the stick so i can get it away, but i don't have the correct tools. Any advice? It's really impossible, i hold the ball and screw with the screwdriver, everything spins but the ball remains in place.

  • You may need to replace the shaft, which means buying a new joystick assembly. Try a rag and pliers to twist the ball top.

  • i need to fix one of my buttons on my fightstick one of them sticks and only responds when it pops out of the socket.

  • I have a TE stick and a modded SE stick...only problem is the Madcats wiring harness on the SE broke as there was a ton of glue on it. Im confused on how to set up the harness part connected to the pins on the board itself. I know the way the Sanwa harness connects to the JLF and I assume it goes the opposite on the board any thoughts?

  • What kind of stick and how damaged is the wiring harness?

  • Its my Madcatz SE SF4 stick. The original harness that came with it is junk now, as the end connected to the board (not joystick) completely came out of the plastic snap in piece. I have the JLF in it and the Sanwa harness has a plastic snapin connection to the JLF..but the ground and 4 direction going to the board of the stick are loose meant for soldering. I just have no idea how the other end lines up with the stick PCB.

  • is the guy who sings the end song the same who sings the Datona USA songs on Satern?

  • Yes, his name is Takenobu Mitsuyoshi.

  • Whats up, just wondering whats the model number for the sanwa buttons you're using?

The buttons... well, the MK on my SE has just completely gone so I'm looking to replace with proper parts.

As I've never modded anythign myself before just want to be sure I'm getting correct parts which fit / work properly.

Thanks dude, fucking AWESOME video for me.

  • My written walkthrough is in the link in the upper left window. The Sanwa buttons you will need is Sanwa OBSF-30 Pushbuttons

  • You good sir, are a life saver.

Thanks for the video and timley response.

    5* +Fav.

  • Awesome! Great video and funny too!

  • I added a link for a step by step walkthrough on upgrading the Madcatz fight stick with Seimitsu parts. Check it out!

  • never did a mod and first time owning

a joystick can i use the same octagonal restrictor plate on my TE.... great vid btw

  • great vid..

  • nice vid gonna do this soon

  • If those jackasses at Capcom would have just went with Hori again, there would be no need to mod the damn thing. Nice work on this man.

  • BTW: I have to say, whoever did the art for that modded stick must either be an artistic genius, or just some hick from Kansas.

  • You do amazing work sir. ;)

  • This is quite groovy. Thanks for putting this video up. I think it will be a good way to show those who may be a bit squeaming with modding how easy and simple it can be.
