Our farm has 3 seperate wells on it. My step-grandfather's well water gets dirt and other stuff in it because the pipe itself is at the bottom of the water table or the water is just real shallow. The 1 at the barn has a broken pump and the 1 at our house is 100 feet deep. What happens when the power goes out. Hand pumps are 600 dollars plus for a well more then 60 feet deep. Solar power is expensive due to the temporary high wattage draw from the pump when it kicks on.

I've been preparing for a long, long time, and if it all goes down, we can make it. No mortgage, almost no food bill, 10 years of property tax money saved, and my last purchase is my well, which goes in this fall. I'm sure glad I got my permits before they change the rules. WE LOST OUR HOME TOO, and we worked our entire lives also. Great jobs and all. But I started back then, and knew I would never live through that again, and NEVER depend on anyone but me and God. Tell your parents to cry, get mad, then get up, and get started again. Don't let a bank ruin their lives. Life will be really different, but boy is it good in the end.
