@phillyspartanfan Fruits release a gas called Ethylene which makes fruits ripen, which is why sticking fruits into paper bags will cause them to ripen faster. The principle behind this I believe is that by separating them, they come into contact with less ethylene, as each individual banana releases their own amount of gas.

Also keep them in the fridge. The skin goes dark more quickly so it seems like the wrong thing to do, but it's just an illusion. The fruit itself lasts longer.
