L just died in the episode I was watching. I go and look up, "Does L come back to life?" I was already on the edge of crying, then it says, no he won't. I started crying and then instantly watched this tribute. I am sitting here crying right now as I type. Light instantly became my least favorite character in the series when L died. Damn the bastard.

The creator of Death Note said that if Ryuk had never dropped the Death Note, Light would have gone on to be a very successful detective and a very good guy. He might have even ended up working with L (without plotting to kill him, that is.)
I blame Ryuk. He messed up hundreds of lives for his own entertainment.
@Gatomon2009 In Death Note 13, they said that if Sidoh - the original owner of Light's notebook - had never lost it, none of this would have happened. If he hadn't lost, Ryuk never would have picked it up and dropped it in the human world and, in turn, Light never would have found it. But Sidoh is too cute and lovable to hate, so I still blame Ryuk and his boredom. ^_^

I maintain L was by far the cleverest character in the series.
Light had the advantage all along; he knew everything about the Death Notes while L started off completely in the dark. But L alone managed to work out such a strange concept of 'Shinigami' and 'Death Notes' -- not to mention the fact that he knew all along that Light was Kira. In fact, before L's death (at the hands of a Shinigami -- not Light), he was just about to negate Light and Misa's innocence by disproving the '13 Day Rule'.
I would have gotten to this part months ago but my sister told me that L dies so I was afraid to watch them for like all summer and a bit more cuz I didn't want him to die

This anime is just awesome!!For me "L" is a LEGEND, not Kira known as Light. He was the one who could have changed the world, not kira, most importantly without murdering anyone...Although he died, his efforts weren't blown away, but used by Near the most, but also Mello..But in the end it wasn't Near that won...no...it was "L"

Just think of it this way; it took a GOD of DEATH to bring him down. Light had two death notes, a woman with shinigami eyes, and two shinigami and he still needed to sacrifice Rem in order to win. If Rem hadn't of killed L, Light would've lost way earlier.

@robes725 Rem was trying to make Misas life longer. I think if Rem had killed Light, Misa would probably commit suicide, and her life would be shortened.

@Bow2ThePro Ya but L had to combat things that were considered impossible. There was no logical explanation for any of the killings. That would be like if i could kill someone by looking at them. Logic says that's impossible and that all I did was look at the guy and so cannot be the killer. Light wasn't as smart as I think he could of been. Given that he had a logically impossible method of killing, there is no way he should've gotten caught.
In Higuchi's car when Misa told him that she was Kira 2, Rem killed a person for her and why she didn't die there??? She was supposed to die 3 times^^

@HIKAJO Good point, I'd assume because killing Watari doesn't directly help or hinder her fate, killing L does. That's why. Also, it takes 40 seconds for the death to take effect, so maybe she wrote the two names in a row then waited for her inevitable destruction.

The are opposite, yet they compliment each other in an odd way. I think L didn't leave a successor on purpose. I think he intended for Near and Mello to work together somehow. But L was amazing. I'm not sure if I like Near more, 'cept that I didn't have to watch him die and that he finished L's work. L's sacrifice was not in vain.

L is a legend. The best character created ever, period. I was really devasted when Light you know...That's why, even if it sounds bad, I was actually a little happy when Light died. @SahrMalik I agree. I get so attached to anime characters that if one that i really love dies or something similar to that I'm in complete shock. Or even people from books. If one of them makes some kind of terrible decision I'm like "...Screw this." And chuck the book away or refuse to watch the show. Eventually I go back to it . But I'm still ticked about it. Its actually kind of sad how attached I get to people who don't actually exist compared to the fact I can barely stand actual people.
I like the moment where L has a dozen marshmellows stacked on his spoon, and he's about to try to put that thing in his mouth, and Light and his dad are lie "RYUZAKI!" and he drops in and says "WHAT?! theres no need to yell in unison!"

This anime is just awesome!!For me "L" is a LEGEND, not Kira known as Light. He was the one who could have changed the world, not kira, most importantly without murdering anyone...Although he died, his efforts weren't blown away, but used by Near the most, but also Mello..But in the end it wasn't Near that won...no...it was "L"

Just think of it this way; it took a GOD of DEATH to bring him down. Light had two death notes, a woman with shinigami eyes, and two shinigami and he still needed to sacrifice Rem in order to win. If Rem hadn't of killed L, Light would've lost way earlier.

@BonJoviFanboy I just dont understand.. why did L have to die... Rem could have easily killed Light.And it would have all been over. I felt like I lost someone close to me when L died. It was a weird feeling.

@robes725 Rem was trying to make Misas life longer. I think if Rem had killed Light, Misa would probably commit suicide, and her life would be shortened.

@robes725 Rem would of never killed Light, because Rem needed Light to rescue Misaa AND Rem had feelings for Misa. in ep 25, when L died, L had permission to test the 13 day rule, & Rem realized, at that moment, he HAD to kill L, because if they ruled out the 13 day rule as a possibility, then Light & Misa would be under suspicion, or worse. Understand? Ls awesome. He always lives on :) Read the manga & the 3 special death note books, it'll make u feel better!!!!!!

@BonJoviFanboy I've watched deathnote several time , at the first few times i was on Kira's side, then i loved L after ,but i like em both.
Do not forget, L had the entire police force with him,he had the devices he needs, money,men power,a huge building with everything he needs,
Light had the deathnote, and he did kill L with a plan that is close to be impossible, but it worked
They r both awesome,L is smarter,But light got him because L was figuring out somthing, that was never there before!

@Bow2ThePro Ya but L had to combat things that were considered impossible. There was no logical explanation for any of the killings. That would be like if i could kill someone by looking at them. Logic says that's impossible and that all I did was look at the guy and so cannot be the killer. Light wasn't as smart as I think he could of been. Given that he had a logically impossible method of killing, there is no way he should've gotten caught.

@HIKAJO She didn't, she killed them one after the other. Watari has a heart attack and hits the delete button as he is dying. Then L dies next.

@HIKAJO Good point, I'd assume because killing Watari doesn't directly help or hinder her fate, killing L does. That's why. Also, it takes 40 seconds for the death to take effect, so maybe she wrote the two names in a row then waited for her inevitable destruction.

Killing Watari doesn't count because Watari isn't the person hunting Misa, L is. Even without Watari, L would continue looking for Kira.

@HIKAJO Watari wasn't threat to Misa, he wasn't able to capture Misa and later kill her, while L would do that sooner or later, now, what I mean is, Watari wouldn't kill Misa and when Rem killed Watari, she didn't extend Misa's life, but when Rem killed L, she did extend Misa's life

If the 13 rule is fake then L can say you too are still under suspecion but he don't kill them or let me tell you something misa can say this as light said " I am not aware of that maybe I am kira by force like unconciously " .. you see there are lots of options L have against the second kira because he know that the second kira is under the first kira's command so if light told misa say that you are the first kira .. rem will kill light ^^

@Akatsukifanred I love Near. But I think L knew that the two of them would have to work together. I mean, think about it. The way those two personalities are. The are opposite, yet they compliment each other in an odd way. I think L didn't leave a successor on purpose. I think he intended for Near and Mello to work together somehow. But L was amazing. I'm not sure if I like Near more, 'cept that I didn't have to watch him die and that he finished L's work. L's sacrifice was not in vain.

L is a legend. The best character created ever, period. I was really devasted when Light you know...That's why, even if it sounds bad, I was actually a little happy when Light died. Is that a bad thing? I wish L was still alive though =( I stopped reading the manga and watching the anime for a while because I was in such shock!

@SahrMalik I agree. I get so attached to anime characters that if one that i really love dies or something similar to that I'm in complete shock. Or even people from books. If one of them makes some kind of terrible decision I'm like "...Screw this." And chuck the book away or refuse to watch the show. Eventually I go back to it . But I'm still ticked about it. Its actually kind of sad how attached I get to people who don't actually exist compared to the fact I can barely stand actual people.
