1988 GMC 305 open headers

have you driven it with the open headers? i have the same truck with a 350, my exhaust broke after the y pipe and its killing my low end power, the truck bogs down pretty bad. did you have the same problem?

Uknowmetom I've had long tubes an straight pipes on my truck which is exactally like that truck year an everythin except its got a 350 and i aint burned any valves off an i run the hell out of it lol

ok it was the z28 that was rated at 345 lbs of torque. mine was 170hp@400, 255lbs@2400. thats a L03. some Z28 came with LB9 so to use the t-5, which made from 205-230@4200, and 285-300lbs@3200. the rest are L98 which is the 350,so they are all autos, whole diffrent story. I think the point is that the 350 has more options and respons to mods lots better than the 305, but dont count them out, they can make torque

@Dodgeram591 thats not true. i got a 305 and it has enough torque to move the entire body of the truck at idle to 1600 rpm higher the rpm the more it moves and its an extended cab. its a 95, K&N, Glass pack. mostly stock.

@johnprice1000 Yea, Ive got a 97 With the 305, people always tell me its a whimpy motor untill they ride shotgun and feel that its got balls and the low end torque twists the truck.

@Dodgeram591 Actually, a 305 has plenty of torque, just no horsepower. I have a 1986 K10 (Pickup) 4x4, with a 3 speed, with granny, and a 305. And it has plenty of torque, but it's all bottom end. The 305, make's 240 LBS of torque, at 2500 RPM. And 150 HP, at 4500 RPM, or something like that. But these engine's were built, to pull, not to race. Plus my model, and newer, were built around the EPA, which killed the 305. It was choked to death, because of the EPA.

its a 88 im almost sure its injected ,i think all those like a rock body style trucks are fuel injected and the earlyer body style ones are carbed

yea they started F.I in 87 last year of that body style and first year of fuel injection those are rare trucks

sounds just like mine starting up except i have stock manifold and y pipe on and all that but a flowmaster 40 on but its got that same sound with the high idle when you first start it
