  • You know it’s weird. Most you tube top responses include some reference to firsts, arrows to knees, or something off topic/racist. All of the game theory videos however have this weird habit of being intellectual and fair. It’s probably just "mat pat’s” audience consisting of reasonably reasonable people. But hey that just my theory, my... yeh I’m not doing it...

P.S. keep up the great work dude. Your videos have got to be my favorite, thanks for everything.

  • I havent enjoyed a show this much since AVGN, I love the visuals, I love the voice over, I love the pacing, I LOVE this show

  • man you may think we in the Netherlands are racist around the holidays because zwarte piet is black but in reality he is a symbol of non racism and humanity, you see sinterklaas found zwarte piet in a slave trade, he bought him, freed him and out of gratitude piet became his trusted manservant and friend. (plus we tell the kids hes black because of the pitch in the chimney)

  • oooooooooooh heeel no

  • The actual reason Piet's Black is because of the soot in the chimneys, Zwarte Piet go down chimneys aswell, much like Santa himself. So therefore his face is black. And besides Christmas is actually the American taking on Saint Nicholas Day. We call him Sinterklaas, you call him Santa Claus. See the resemblance in pronounciation? Funny thing though we celebrate both Saint Nicholas Day and Christmas, while they're virtually the same holiday.

  • @SilverLuna07 he man holland is top

  • @SilverLuna07 exactly. thanks for explaining it to the ignorant masses of dumbnass Americans. but we celebrate crstmass becuase of cristian heretage remember, santa claus is just an aded bonus for the kiddies...

  • 4:04: that's Kyle Schwartz

  • I think you might have forgotten something... the KRAMPUS!!! Saint Nic used Zwarte Piet to "punish" mild offenses so his black slave instead of presents gives charcoal pieces, but if the kid was BAD and I mean really BAD good ol' Santa Claus would release the Krampus? Who is the Krampus? Well, basically,in the origins of Santa Claus he is well... a saint, a warrior from God that fought against the DEVIL and won, so the devil is his bitch once a year.

  • @Kajinumberone Just to finish my little stupidities, the Krampus is the one who kidnaps you in a bag and lay the smack down on you with his claws, trident and just beats the shit out of you

  • Hey, I came across this a couple of weeks ago, and this is great stuff. I really hope you do tackle Zelda soon. The timeline that was published in Japan would justify an episode all it's own (like how Ocarina of Time could produce three possible futures).

  • could you do a skyrim game theory please :D, even thou i now i is possible that there are much contet

  • off topic, but yay you finaly got your ass in gear and reuploaded some of your older episodes on blip tv :D (also it's the only thing i watch on blip. so feel special :D )

  • 'copyright used until SOPA passes and shuts the internet down' LOL

  • You should do a video on Assassins Creed, the game already has a large amount of historical figures just a somewhat confusing plot, so there would be a lot to work with.

By the way amazing show, probably my favorite thing to watch on Youtube.

  • 'Hey i got a idea for a theory. Just how close are we to making a real life T virus?'

  • This video was extra funny because I'm from the Netherlands... I laughed my ass off when I heard the song that played during the credits xD

  • What happened to the Pokemon episode about those kids' gambling addictions?

  • You know what would be awesome? A game theory on Megaman.

  • You like to use eggs as representations, don't you? This is probably the 5th time you've used them. Please don't rhyme for multiple minutes; basic end rhymes are good for a couple of lines. I prefer your well placed puns, clever Photoshopping, and double meanings because they're just more clever where end rhyming becomes predictable. For instance, when you said weary at the end, I knew your next rhyme would be theory because you were wrapping it up.

  • how about the doctor and his TARDUS

  • Just to point out that Saint Nicholas was a greek who lived in the region of actual Turkey.

He is the patron saint of children and other stuff. He became a saint after saving the lives of 3 children, etc...

  • OH SHIT I live in the Netherlands and its really weird to see sinterklaas in your episode XD.

  • The skin color of zwarte piet is actually a reference to the Moors. The Moors conquered Spain in the Middle Ages and tradition says that sinterklaas is originating from Spain. Because sinterklaas was accompanied by one zwarte piet (later more) it has been told that zwarte piet is a Moor. When this tradition started in the 19th century the black helper represented punishment and because Moors were seen as savage people (people were racist back in these days) this link was created.

  • CANT WAIT TILL SKYRIM,ZELDA AND CALL OF DUTY!

  • "Zwarte" means "Black" so his short name is "Piet" not "Zwarte", is in "Pete" not "Black" :p

Zwarte Piet or dressing up like him is not racist... He just happens to be black. Is that a reason to avoid him? You're falling in the same trap as the silly people that called Jinx racist. Just because someone is black doesn't make it racism. By the same logic we would have to make every character in the world be white to avoid racism. Hmm isn't that a racist comment?

    *kinda offended Belgian

  • @Veneni7 Please don't be offended. You bring up some really excellent points that should be addressed (and not just by us)...

    1. I used "Zwarte" for the meter of it (2 syllables instead of one) and because I liked the sound better. Chalk it up to poetic license.

    2. I don't mean to call Zwarte Piet and dressing up like him inherently racist...I try to avoid taking a stance on the show because we deal with some heavy issues and, like in this one, I don't have a right answer...

  • @Veneni7

    3. Your point about playing black characters is one that the world needs to figure out. Blackface in the US is a tradition that began out of hate. Its signature look is one that Piet shares. But here, it is done out of love of the character. Does one culture ruining it make it universally bad?

In a lot of ways, it reminds me of the swastika, which was a symbol of peace before Nazis changed its meaning in the public eye. Does that permanently brand it as offensive?

  • @MatthewPatrick13 Yes, it all comes down to presentation. There's a Belgian tv-show about Sinterklaas and ZP and there he is clearly presented as his friend and helper, absolutely not degrading like the blackface thing, so nobody here makes a problem out of it. By the way did you know they DID make a problem about the cross on Sk's hat? They changed it to a plain red one this year xD

PS: I'm not really that offended, don't worry ^^, keep making shows, they're awesome!

  • @Veneni7

    Dutch imput (Translated for you):

the main point with zwarte piet is that he's a black male serving a white person, which indeed doesn't mean jack, but some moral-knights feel it is their duty to bitch about anything which can be seen as racist, a big a stretch it may be.

also, if everyone was white, we'd probably just focus more on sexism :)

^that was a joke btw, for any idiot who thought i was serious. the smiley should've tipped you off.

  • Oh I know dat jewish kid, it's Kyle's cousin named...Kyle.

  • An episode about Portal or Fallout would be great but I'm happy with everything you do.

  • Cool episode, especially because you included the Netherlands and our Sinterklaas tradition.

    (I'm from the Netherlands ;))

Couple of things though: Zwarte pieten are black because they are covered with soot (don't know if this is the right translation though... I mean the black stuff that's in the chimneys).

They don't use brooms but a roe, which is basically a bundle of twigs. But nowadays the roe is for the most part left out though.

  • i'm black but i never saw Jynx as racist. i just thought the ppl on the subject were bitching.

  • Yay Dutch ending Credits :D Daar word ik nou blij van :)

  • I don't know if you watch The Venture Brothers but they had a Christmas special featuring Zwarte Piet. They figured out they couldn't get rid of him and had to wait while he beat one of the main characters with his broom.

  • @cubefreak123 For real?! What episode is that? I really need to see that XD.

  • Comment removed

  • @Otamie It's on the season 1 dvd if you have it, barring that this is most of it: video.adultswim (dot) com/the-venture-bros/punishing-the-wicked.html

  • Not only talented, he is also creative^^

  • The person's name is Kyle's cousin Kyle

  • Great episode

I myself live in the Netherlands and love St. Nicholas

The part of Black Piet has become since 5 years a real political point during this time of the year

I myself find it fascinating to her peoples opinions about it.

What I would like to add to this episode is that the origin of Black Piet comes from Germany

They're Beast how punish those how have sinned ones a year

The story of the devil comes closes

This is another example that Santa Claus is a stolen concept from St. Nicholas

  • Didn't expect to see sinterklaas in a game theory ep :O :D

  • Great episode.

And that kid's name is Kyle Broflovski, he's the cousin of Kyle Broflovski and they share the same name.

  • Relative good research here Matt. I dealt with the subject myself and written a script about it, when I was still studying to become a history-teacher (which I now am). Personally I think it's too bad you're not mentioning the modern perceptions on the St.Klaas and Zwarte Piet characters. Yes, they have indeed been used as a pedagogic-tool to make children behave, but that's something from at least half a century ago. Your video, while entertaining, lacks nuance and is therefore not that good.

  • @Koranenmerg But hey, that's just my theory ;)

  • @Koranenmerg It was either nuance or rhyming couplets since getting into the finer details of Zwarte and Sinterklaas would require a more standard writing style. For Christmas, I thought I'd sacrifice some of the information for style (though I did write out a full script tracking Zwarte's origin from Norse myth and all that before converting it to couplets). Sorry you were disappointed.

  • @MatthewPatrick13 Disappointed is such a harsh word. It was still a great episode that I enjoyed much. I didn't see the Jynx/Zwarte Piet crossover, so kudo's there. It's just constructive criticism; keep up the good work!

  • I respect your research, I don't know if your really from US (never trust the internet), but thanks for showing the rest of world of our (in your opinion) racist holiday.

  • Saint Nic's black Petes are actually black because they climb through the chimney to put present in the houses.

  • `Well Sinterklaas is actually a separate holiday on 5 December. We have Christmas to 2 days even! 25 and 26

  • Man, I cant wait for a skyrim episode.

  • Another Pokémon episode of Game Theory? AND it's done in rhyming couplets?

This computes. This computes juuuust right.

  • @MatthewPatrick13 i believe that is kyle schwartz and the book is richard scarry best christmas book ever!

Ps @Xander767 I'm coming for you! form Xander764 I'm only 3 number lower but i will get a higher score

  • The jew is Kyle Broflovski cousin Kyle Schwartz

  • weeeeeeeeeeeeee~ Zelda episode~?

  • OMG A Game Theory episode on Zelda O_O that would be the most awesome Christmas present ever... considering how underwhelmed I was with Skyward Sword... :(

    CANT WAIT!!!

  • Impressive that you did the entire thing in rhyme.

  • You wanna know what I learned pat? FUCK BELGIUM! AIN'T NO WAY I'M EVEN TOUCHING THAT LAND.

That and they burnt that waffle you used for the picture.

  • lol the book is Richard Scarry's Best Christmas Book Ever! and the south park kid is kyle's cousin i think >.>

  • I don't know what the book is, but I think it's by Richard Scarry

  • @TheAtticus19 Okay the Jewish kid I know: Kyle's cousin Kyle from South Park

  • Fun fact: Jinx was meant to parody of a subculture of japan where girls put on extreme amounts of make up. Pokemon's creator didn't even know that the pokemon looked like a stereotypical black caricature.

  • @8balls122 fun fact, watch the Game Theory: Pokemon Part 3-part 1, he talks all about that.

  • @ChanceDeath My name is Matthew Patrick, and I approve this comment.

  • And thank you for another episode. I feel smarter after each episode. I bet it was pretty hard to ryme like that.

  • This episode was good.

  • I think I just learned something about Christmas...

  • Wow! Ever think about taking up a freestyle rapping career? That was impressive! And I never would have thought Jynx was racist if I was that episode growing up. Kids really wouldn't get the historical references, nor would it plant a seed of racism in their minds only to grow into a massive peach tree of hate... But I'd also like to secure my lead by saying... A very merry Christmas? (Also, I just saw that episode last night, and I don't remember a name... dangit!)

  • I really don't understand how this isn't more popular.

  • Sint doesnt actually "replace" Santa, Sinterklaas is celebrated on December 5th and we celebrate our two days of Christmas on the 25th and 26th with Santa.

And i personally dont think Zwarte Piet is racist, the clothing is more closer to fantasy than current stereotypes.

  • Okay, your rhyming during this made the episod all the more better. Please tell me you did that all by yourself. Because if you did, that'd make another awesome talent under your belt.

Good episode, Great Theory, Awesome Rhyming.

  • Zwarte piet is black because he enters a house trough a chimney to deliver presents.

  • @FruityLoopsM Based on my research, that's actually a newer twist to the story that has come about as a means of explaining away the potential political incorrectness of the character. It's interesting...he actually has about five different origin stories, but the devil one or the "St. Nicholas freed a slave who joined him" seem to be the earliest ones.

  • I think racism is largely to do with intent. Stereotypes are bad, yes, but unless they are used with the intent of causing offence, It's not the same. But I'm a white boy with my white privilege, so I don't count :P

  • also do a rayman ep

  • Oh btw, where's that promised "Daisy Theory" Episode?

Get your ass on that shiz.

    no rush XD

  • @JanembaJanemba wich episode did he say that

  • @key099able The episode where he first announced he was joining with the Punk Effect. It's in the credits. Forgot which episode specifically though.

  • i cannot wait until the zelda ep

  • Christmas special! Yayy!!

  • Jynx

  • merry christmas game theory!!!!
