  • Was just jamming this today. One of my favorite Jaco performances. Very well done!

  • Nice! which kind of Fender is that?

  • god damn your badass

  • This is one of my favorite Jaco performances(The entire Shadows and Lights DVD) Great playing my friend!!!! As always!!! :-)

  • @jcsgroove - Thanks Jackie! :)

  • very very nice, I love the way you lay back in the groove. I notice the poor impoverished music industry has removed all of the Shadows and Light clips from youtube. Shame.

I think Jaco was the whole orchestra on that video, unbelievable really. You can even see it on Pat's face, he looks over as if to say 'far out mate, you are amazing'. And Pat Metheny is no slug.

  • your playing is nice, but your bass is out of tune man..

i dont know if its the strings that are badly tuned or your frets

or maybe accidental bends, or wrong notes.. but probably there are no wrong notes cuz i remember this basslines very well!

all in all its very good

  • yeah very good job! have u got a transcription?!?!?!?!??!

  • Your cover is perfect!

  • Bass tab or sheet music please!!

Ive probably asked before, you've no idea how many times I come back to this video...

  • buen sonido...

  • and thank you for that!!!

  • Wow, I'm impressed! Congrats!

  • You're welcome :) Don Juan... is less known than the others albums but is awesome too (Speak to me,Walls of Jericho with Wayne Shorter)

Did you know that Wayne was supposed to be in Shadows & Lights but she couldn't have him due to records companies issues?

  • @Fjord76

Joni had to "settle" for Michael Brecker! Wow!

  • @5891jonathan i know it's gonna sound weird but to me, Brecker is a saxophonist.Shorter is a musician.

  • @Fjord76

No, I see that distinction. Not weird at all.

  • @5891jonathan That's just the way i see it you know, i must be one of the few musicians or music lovers considering Brecker as a "mere saxophonist". Composition and style-wise, Wayne's solo albums from the 60's simply redefined jazz music (not to mention his works with Miles and Weather Report or what he still does with his 4tet nowadays...saw 'em twice by the way...words can't describe)

  • Joni & Jaco:

    Heijira (1976)

    Don Juan's reckless daughter (1977) feat.Wayne Shorter.

    Mingus (1979) feat. Wayne Shorter.

    Shadows & Lights (1980)

Great post Joao, too short as usual but still great ;)

  • @Fjord76 Thanks Greg! :)

    You're right! 3 studio albums not 2...

  • Genial!! ¿sabes tocar tambien "black crow"?

  • I'm sure you've been asked hundreds of times, but have you got notation or tab for this please?

    Thanks,

    Rowan

  • this is NOT JACO playing...his fingers are much too fat and short!...jaco had daddy long leg fingers....sheeeeeeeeeesh

  • I'm french and i have to admit: in France, we kiss on main street^^

    nice plaing by the way

  • Well done mate. One of the best basslines that Jaco ever recorded within a song.

    Thanks for the video

  • What a great musician and what a swing.

  • Blessings to you bro!

  • great feel m'dude! I didn't even know Jaco played for Joni Mitchell.

  • @ChicagoBassed Thank you Sharay! :) Coming from you it means a lot, believe me!

You should check the live album/dvd "Shadows and Lights", great band, Jaco as a sideman comping amazingly. He also recorded 2 studio albums for Joni. If you cannot find them send me a PM.

And thank you so much for your videos, I've learned a lot with them. And every time i see those church videos i still get blown away aha :)

  • Grande!!! Avresti la tab?

  • GRANDE

  • Excellent..

  • Oh dude, that ruled! I like how you got that bass line down at 00:58. Do you think that the phrase at 00:30 is a slide? Rulz again! Awesome playing! So smooth. Rad.

  • Dude, you gotta finish the tune! Lol That was superb! Great tone and phrasing!

Now go give your parents a big bear hug for giving you all the help with those music lessons. Very well done! Bravo!

  • that was an awesome bassline

  • one of my favorite bass lines of all time, very nice job too. If I were you I'd try playing the verse on the E string instead so you can play that 4th fret harmonic on the 9th fret and you can include the A string so you get that C# in there, but thats just me. Were you using the neck pickup at all?

  • @catalystdrums123 oh I just realized you're getting that C# just fine nvm that comment. Everything else stands :)

  • Great playing, but you left me hanging. Please finish the song. I'd love hear the rest.

  • That´s great. Greeting from the trebuchet stranger from omegle

  • Bravo! Giampaolo Angerosa da Napoli.

  • loved it

  • Excellent work! And thank you for taking the time to work out how to make a decent video.

  • Great playing!

  • Great post m'man!

  • wow, what a touch!!!I particularly like the "ghost notes". Don´t worry about your day job!

  • You YOURSELF are a bass PRO, been playin for 20 years and you blow me away> Thanks!!!!! wow OMG

  • Really nice playing and sweet, sweet tone!

    Keep it up man!

  • Man thats great playing!

    I love that song

  • You look like Marlow DK x)

  • VIVE LA FRANCE !

thx for all your vidéos !

  • This is cool. Great Jaco tone! 5 stars.

  • Nice!

Playing right on top of the frets, that's the Jaco tone. Somehow his playing fit perfectly with her songs.

  • DAMNIT i hate you! That playing is quite amazing.

  • Keep it alive , you've got the tone, harmonics - IMO this was the greatest band ever put together - I could listen to it forever -

Can someone put the Shadows and Light videos back up again? ...Pretty Please?...

  • And I forgot to say... this live DVD version is way better than the album cut that's also great - but Jaco really brings this version alive.

  • Don't do yourself down. This is a fantastic take on one of the best bass lines ever. You've even got the tone right down. How do you do it? I'm not a bassist, by the way - but this is just the business.

  • @midlander4: Thank you very much! Ok ok, i'll change the description slightly :)

You can get a similar tone by using mainly the neck pickup, and playing directly over it. And I couldn't agree more, this live version is just brilliant, played by a great band.

  • SWEET!!

  • you said: "Not really perfect and note for note" But you have superb.feel!!!.

    Excellent!!

  • Thank you! :)

  • Glad to hear from you again

  • yes, finaly the new sandokan! Great to hear some joni mitchell. you're righ
