  • I am sorry to disgust and upset. But the indiscrimate bombing of WW2 German civilians was done to destroy morale and beat them into submission. If you support that then you support the present Syrian government shelling of Homs - for exectly the same reasons. Beware of double standards despite the roar of Merlin engines and Lancaster bombers - great though they are, just remember why they were built and what they did.

  • The men flying these in WW2 must have had balls the size of water melons.

  • Great stuff of course, but let's remember that these aircraft and those who flew them were under orders - starting with Churchill - to commit some of the worst war crimes of WW2. The German people did not deserve what they got. By the way, my dad was a commando and my mum a submarine hunter in the Battle of the Atlantic and I'm proud of both of them.... but...

  • @Theandyhumphreys i disagree with your comment. the german people all supported hitler and his manic idealism. they had to be stopped and bombing was a legitimate part of war since the germans bombed coventry first. do not dishonour the thousands of brave men of bomber command (who's casualty rate was 50% some of the highest of the war) by implying they committed atrocities.

  • @Theandyhumphreys You disgust me. No more needs to be said.

  • @Theandyhumphreys

    You disgust me.

  • @Theandyhumphreys Really? I am not too sure as to why you think in that manner.

  • Now go FLY that thing already!

  • my grandad was a F/E on lancs in 44 Sqn, so i'd loved to know how he'd have felt watching this video, how familiar it would all have been

  • Beautiful old bird! We have one at the RAAF Museum in Perth. Sadly she is only an indoor static display, I don't think her engines turn anymore.

  • Excellent video. I had to listen to this with my headphones on. The roar from those merlins almost gave me a headache because the volume just had to be turned up. What a beautiful sound coming from her. Definately a favourite of mine. Thanks for uploading this. Lest We Forget.

  • Good to watch. Am going to show my father as he was a rear gunner during the war and will enjoy listening to that unique sound.

  • What a nice aircraft!

  • 3:19 eargasm!!!

  • one of the best videos on youtube, what a wonderful place youtube is... We can see alot of great things on here. Amazing video, i have a deep connection with these old wwii planes dont know why, just have.

  • @fIRsTRATmAN

perfectly understand, although i know its ridiculous i swear these aircraft have personalities.

souls, almost, and thats significant coming from someone with a moniker such as mine ;)

ive been to too many airshows where they grumble and complain, refuse to start, then finally relent and go tear up the sky sounding like shackled thunder.

  • Wow, no. 3 starting up sounded awesome. Loved the way the mighty Merlin shook the entire plane when in burst into life! What a video....

  • its an amazing sound when you are very close to it.

  • 4 Rolls-Royce Merlins?

  • That plane is beautiful. but at the same time looks absolutely evil!

  • It would be great to see this aircraft back in the air in formation with the BBMF Lancaster at a Duxford airshow.

  • excellent feedback, thanks mate. i thought they were ungrateful to him for saving them.

  • flying fortress?

  • Is this the flying fortress?

  • worse thing was not to re-elect Winston after the war. such ingratitude.

  • @Rico8458 Churchill was a (debatably) good wartime leader, but his hatred of the working class, his lack of touch with the empire, and his total incompetence as a peace time politician should be noted. Churchill was a real bastard, which is why he did so well keeping the Germans out of the UK (that and the Russian winter, lest we forget).

  • what a beautifull noise

  • A wonderfully, proudly ugly plane! I love it!

  • @whowantsabighug

Ugly !?!? you dummy this aeroplne is beautiful !

  • @24262748 No... it's beautifully designed, a fantastic symbol of Britain's war effort, an amazingly deadly weapon of war; but an aesthetic abomination, but it's a war-machine designed for killing, it isn't meant to look pretty.

  • @whowantsabighug

Ugly !?!? you dummy this aeroplane is beautiful !

  • i have this plane in aces high lol

  • Sadly, few of the WW2 generation are left and soon WW2 will no longer be in living memory, all we'll have are second-hand sources. How wonderful then, that these beautiful birds are still around to pay testament to all those who served, and to remind us of their sacrifice. Makes me proud! Long may they fly...PS. heard a whisper that the Kirkby Lanc has got the funds to make it fly....true?

  • @592139 My Great-uncle recently passed away, he served in The Royal Australian Navy during WWII, and bore witness to great tragedy on his ship. He is another living link lost to the ravages of time. My fear is that when the last man rests, academics, politicians and the politically correct brigade will manipulate the memories of the past to suit their own dubious agendas. "year after year more old med disappear, someday no one will march there at all..." Lest we forget. Dasha

  • @The1dasha read theandyhumphreys comment and see what you think

  • Some very good audio in this video. I rode in Jane in 2006, and Im booked up again for 2011 - and I cant wait. Thanks for uploading.

  • Use GOOGLE to find stuff. its great!

  • Thankyou for a great overview of a legendary aircraft. I had the honor of having a neighbour who was a pilot of the Lanc. and flew with 12 Sqd. Wickenby in WW2. Like most all of those incredible heroes, he was somewhat reluctant to speak of his time in service. I was very lucky because he would relate some of his memories of this time, to me. Aircraft like NX611 serve, not to glorify war, but to remind us of so many "ultimate sacrifices" made. Cheers and best wishes from "down under ".

  • Quite sure that this aircraft could fly, wouldn't it be a dream to have "Just Jane" "PA474" and the Canadian Lanc to fly in formation, what a sound that would be!!!!

  • @maninweecounty I live in the city that the Canadian lanc is, and it's a real treat to have it do a fly over, especially when there is an air show happening. Out of all the planes that do fly overs you can ear that one and know what it is. And it generally end up having me dashing out the door to catch it :)

  • @maninweecounty Would be fantastic wouldn't it ?!?!?

  • @maninweecounty Better still, the Canadian Lanc, Just Jane and the BBMF Lanc in formation over Derwent reservoir...awesome

  • thats a great video, the plug in, the prime, the nursing of the throttles and the glorious sound, you dont get the true impact unless you are in the cockpit when they fire up

  • You mean Hitler?

  • Amazing document! I've always been a Lancaster fan, it's great watching how they make the mighty Avro roar :-)

  • Symphonic!!

  • simply fantastic, brings a tear to your eye dosn't it these things were built when we were still a great country before corrupt and incompetent politicians allowed parts of this country to look like down town islamabad

  • @1MrTurd We stil are a great country it's just that things have changed all we have to do is get rid of Cameron and get the labour party back in power and it will pick up

  • @1MrTurd i hear that ! nice to see someone speaking their mind

  • @1MrTurd That's what having an NHS and comprehensive schooling leads to :-)

  • @1MrTurd really well said, could not agree more

  • @1MrTurd Fantastic indeed. I'm glad you feel the same as I do. As you say, great shame this once magnificent country has been ruined by useless politicians. I am British and proud and love my country, but dislike what it has become in very few years.
