He expanded greek culture and way of life outside the borders of greece that way ensuring the survival of Greece/Macedonia itself. As opposite to what english did to scots and irish, and indians, australian aboriginies which were blatant genocides! Alexander kept the conquored culture intact keeping its idenitity and prosperity.

My interpertation to this speech: Every man have destiny to fullfil but by "falling in love with all the things in life that destroyed man", we lose the sight of this destiny.. All the things being: comfort, luxury, peaceful life, no need to work... etc.

Once you reach a certain level of wealth in spirit, physical or emotional level, you don't accept any lower deeds than that once reached. In other words, a stupid example: If you get rich you don't want or even look to go back to simplicity anymore.
